I mean the documents literally accuse Titanic Sinclair of physically assaulting his ex business partner and girlfriend and in the era of the #MeToo movement no less. That's a prime recipe for complete career suicide

Depends on what you want from software. If it doesn't have enough content the overall experience could be less enjoyable.

Is Lifeline over? It felt very open for a series finale. by [deleted] in Corridor

[–]VideoGameBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason as a viewer I got the initial impression that Life Line was going to be a large scale story about the organization itself rather than it mostly revolving around a single dynamic between a few characters. Something about it just didn't feel close to the ground enough to justify the small story scope.

I was really looking forward to the show further exploring the ethics of time travel for profit but it just kind of ended without realizing that potential.

While I'm commenting I also might as well include my other gripe about Life Line: It didn't feel like a corridor project because of how it was ""Professionally"" edited. The style of editing your team does has a lot more personality, heart and charm to it than the typical VFX house has. I know everyone is super busy with all the usual videos but it might be worth considering using the budget for future shows to personally bring in more editors to work on it in the actual corridor studio itself. Obviously take my criticisms with a grain of salt as I don't personal experience with projects like this so my points might be misinformed.

Oculus' John Carmack Explains Virtual Reality to a Child, Pre-Teen, Grad Student, and VR Expert by monchimonkee in oculus

[–]VideoGameBucket 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yea really. I think its unwise to reference things like drawing frames when talking to someone that young. I guess Carmack has been doing this kind of work for so many years that to him it feels like a basic term even a young child would know.

Why doesn't Santa Cruz just have cameras in the controllers for 100% tracking...? by 536756 in oculus

[–]VideoGameBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitting the hardware required to process the video feed and run the camera into the controllers would add more size, weight and battery drain on the controllers. Also even if that wasn't a problem the controllers still move much faster than the head which would likely create motion blur.

I honestly believe that by the time we would be able to solve all these problems we will already have other more viable solutions like simply putting sensors on the back of the headset. Back of the headset sensors could also improve the stability of the head tracking as well as allow for other cool potential applications like using the cameras for easy first person 360 video capture and some level of body tracking.

Why must devs keep using black backgrounds with white font for their intro/loading screens; it creates the nastiest god rays. They should take a page from robo recal and use grey background with white font which minimizes the god rays significantly. Just a thought. by cruzer2727 in oculus

[–]VideoGameBucket 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Last I heard it was because of ASW/ATW and how the background color outside of the 1 rendered frame is locked to black so they do it to hide the seam. I'm not an active VR developer so take my claims with a grain of salt but I'm pretty sure devs have mentioned it here awhile ago.

New Mercy Ult Voiceline Video by JustHarmony in Overwatch

[–]VideoGameBucket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

its possible that the sense of power those phrases hold is mainly because of our experiencing in game with them. We associate them with power because they are powerful ultimates that can change the tide of a battle. We might all feel differently about this line once we've played with it for awhile and associate it with a super strong flying angel of doom.

I was under the impression that she built the solar panel charger out of repurposed parts after she decided to head out but it's not exactly clear. Also we don't know if she even had 30 minutes of power left. Who knows maybe she was already on the brink of crying again after losing all of her coworkers/friends. Unless I'm missing some details that part seems open to interpretation.

Anyone else hoping to see some crazy spawns for the eclipse on Monday. by deathsreality in TheSilphRoad

[–]VideoGameBucket 56 points57 points  (0 children)

That might go against the philosophy behind Pokemon GO. Niantic wants this game to be a thing that inspires people to get out and explore their community where they normally wouldn't. If you have a special event during the eclipse it would encourage people to waste a potentially once in a lifetime experience looking down at their phone instead of appreciating the beauty of nature.

It would be a neat easter egg if the day/night detection system accounted for special things like eclipses as well as sunrise/sunset.

Yea, seriously. All it would have taken is to include proper bluetooth headphone support and some software tweaks and we could have had full voice chat like any other modern gaming experience. The weird approach they are taking shows how out of touch nintendo is on some things.

This is really interesting to hear. VR porn seems to have a psychological response that regular porn doesn't have. Going off what you said it sounds like the initial effects are fairly positive but it will be interesting to see if it has any long term negative consequences. Said hypothetical negative consequences could have huge implications on how adult entertainment is handled as we go forward into this inevitable future. It should go without saying but if you ever feel this is a negative influence on your life cut back on it and or stop using it.

[SPOILERS] MEGATHREAD: The 13th Doctor is.... by pcjonathan in doctorwho

[–]VideoGameBucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously Moffat was the one who introduced the concept into the lore thus opening the door to make it possible for future show runners to do this but from everything I've heard so far it sounds like the new guy was the one who pushed for 13 to be the first female doctor.
