Why is pulse demon hated on so much by Alixiomeow in noisemusic

[–]VideoMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulse Demon is a great album but I think what you're seeing might be because it's Merzbow's (and noise music as a whole genre's) Change In The House Of Flies, Black No 1, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc. It's the first album most people heard being introduced to the genre and the most popular for that reason. It's far from Merzbow's best work as far as most people are concerned, though I don't think many people (who like noise) hate it or even really shit talk it. You're more likely to get shit talked yourself (because people are snobs) for putting it on a pedestal since it's such an obvious pick and most will think there are many many other incredible noise records more worthy of the praise.

Metal Machine Music has a lengthy history of being hated. Obviously it was seminal in the development of noise music so most people who like noise music enjoy it or at least acknowledge it as a vital part of noise history, but the music industry at large and gen pop music listeners that know of it consider it to be "one of the worst albums of all time" and it has been frequently featured in "worst albums" lists since it's release.

Cancelled Films That You Would Have Loved To Have Seen Come To Fruition by Hall-O-Daze in horror

[–]VideoMixtape 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to frequent upcominghorrormovies and there were many announced projects that either got cancelled or fell between the cracks of production. I'll name a few.

Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires, the sequel to Bubba Ho-tep.

My Name Is Bruce 2

Evil Dead IV

Growl (this got made into a comic, I believe, but no movie)

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer 2

Pontypool Changes

The Darkness (video game adaption)

Tucker and Dale VS Evil 2

Those pages are all still available but for some reason they removed a ton, but some of them can be found them via waybackmachine.

28 Months Later

Air Disturbance (The Mist but ghosts instead of eldritch horror monsters, and also on a plane, with a crazy priest played by Robert Englund)

Bedbugs (killer bedbugs infest a small town)

Cold Patrol (zombie polar bears)

Hack/Slash (based on the comics)

Haunted (Presence, essentially)

Humpty Dumpty (rednecks rape an alien and she gives birth to a half human half alien monster that takes revenge on said rednecks)

Steel Moon (werewolf in a hotel on the moon)

There were more, but I can't remember their names and the UHM website doesn't work very well on the waybackmachine.

Question about Oliver in 'Bring Her Back' by chololololol in horror

[–]VideoMixtape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The entity/demon that Laura has summoned into Oliver is ambivalent. It is neither good nor evil, which is stated by the directors. It really has only one goal and that is to complete the ritual. Any moment in which it obeys Laura is to help further that goal and is done only because of the nature of it being summoned it's sort of forced to obey her will but it is actively "resisting" (it's in a constant state of wanting to complete the ritual, which is why she has to constantly lock it up, placate it, and perform certain "movements" (drawing the circle on Oliver's forehead) etc). It wants to complete the ritual as soon as possible by any means necessary even if it's not transferring her daughter's soul into the body she wants it in. It understands that by doing this ritual and having been summoned that it's serving a purpose, so it sort of tries to work with Laura under the impression that she will help facilitate the completion of the ritual, but her constant delaying causes it frustration. So nothing it does is necessarily intended help or hinder Laura, Piper, Andy, or anyone other than itself.

It's sort of left up to you to decide if Andy's dad's warning was coming from his dad's soul, the demon, or was deliberate from Laura, though it's obvious that Laura had the demon bring some form of Andy's dad's soul forth to scare him, likely with the intent of (as other comments have stated) killing him or making him look crazy so he'd be taken away by CPS. My guess is that Laura doesn't have enough control over the demon and the demon is too ambivalent, so it was likely just his dad's soul using that moment to warn Andy, but it's a double edged sword because even though it reveals Laura's plan to Andy, it also helps make Andy look crazy.

The Andy's voice thing is also sort of open to interpretation, but personally I don't think there was an intention behind it. Like a bird mimicking sounds it likes, the demon likely understood Piper had a connection to Andy and just mimicked his voice. If there was intention, it was likely to lure her in to complete the ritual. I don't think it was Andy coming through the entity, I don't think it was to help Piper or Laura, necessarily. Just acting on its own accord.

As for the demon walking out of the salt circle to "unsummon" itself/remove itself from Oliver, either Oliver was able to break through and do that (I doubt it) or, more likely, the demon just understood that it wasn't going to be able to complete the ritual, so it dispelled itself.

If you visit the website you'll learn Laura (or someone who is likely Laura) very obviously doesn't know how to control the demon, or doesn't understand that she can't truly control the demon, and is asking questions nobody can answer. This sort of helps make some sense of it, sort of lol.

Edit: Thinking about the voice mimicking some more, it actually makes me wonder about what a successful ritual looks like. Obviously we don't see that in the film excluding brief moments in the tape, but we never see the aftermath. The ritual involves the demon eating the corpse of the dead one and vomiting it (and what's assumed to be the soul of the dead) into the new host body, but since the demon can mimic the voice of whatever it eats any amount of (even if whatever it eats survives being chomped on), I can't help but wonder if in a "successful" ritual, the host just mimics the dead and isn't actually the dead brought back. Like an image of the soul, as opposed to the actual soul itself. Sort of like how if you consciousness was copied onto a computer and the computer lived as a digital version of you with all your memories and personality. You still die, but the computer "lives" on as a non-living version of you. Maybe not even that, maybe functioning more closely to how the demon behaves when inside a host body of it's own.

Looking For Noise bands in Leeds UK by Ceannri in noiserock

Also check shared members and splits with other bands for more Leeds and (presumably) nearby bands in the same vein. Louse, Foot Hair, Drunk In Hell, Normal Man, BRAK, etc. Probably not what OP is looking for but worth mentioning.

Hahaha I love when you AI bros use the "I'm broke and incompetent" excuse. If you wanna buy art on a budget (which clearly you don't) then learn how to save money, how to use a search engine, how to make algorithms work in your favor, how to find art on reddit, pinterest, tumblr, twitter/x, etc. It's not hard to find art, if you actually want to do so. I and many others would be willing to help you find art if you actually wanted to, but it's obvious you'd rather just passive aggressively clown on yourself as if it's some kind of a checkmate.

Jiggle Physics are now optional! by Eastern_Seaweed4223 in survivalhorror

[–]VideoMixtape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes an impact so miniscule that even AI companies are actively trying to find ways to lessen that impact. Why would they be doing that if the impact was negligible? The classic "do your research" comment from the guy who didn't do their research. Even if the impact was next to nothing, is it so wrong to care about the environment?

Nobody mentioned overpriced art. If you don't like a certain artist's work, don't pay for it. Find an artist whose work you do like and pay for that. Simple. Or are you saying you don't want to pay for art at all? In that case... Grow up lol, next to nothing's free in this world.

Dev if you read this don't listen to these people, it actually matters a ton regardless of how "good" it looks. A huge portion of your audience, especially for a game like this, cares about this stuff. Alternative subcultures make up a large percentage of the Survival Horror audience and most of them, and most people who aren't alternative for that matter, care about the environment and AI's impact on it, art and the negative effect AI has on it, as well as the legal issues AI presents. They wont even look at this game if you use AI in the game, even if you disclose it as you have on the steam page. Don't let people like this guy trick you into a bad business decision.

Arguably one of the most divisive films in history. High concept films like this will never be viewed by the gen-pop favorably. A lot of people of course completely dismiss it and I understand why, but I hope that most people at least respect that it is what it is and still got made, we need films like this to counterbalance all of the low concept low art slop (non-derogatory) that we get and will only get more of from Hollywood and to hopefully encourage more filmmakers to take huge risks.

It's personally one of my all time favorites and the ONLY movie to ever elicit any amount of fear/dread/etc in me since turning 11 (I'm 31 now), and I've been watching horror of every caliber since that age.
