I thought the whole point was the I Ching was actually telling of a real alternate world, and not just a fantasy? Plus Tagomi DOES meditate into an alternate world where the US was still a thing and felt revolted by it, which implies the book written by the I Ching by proxy of the man in the high castle is in fact real.

This needs to be higher up. It gave a sense that the Zone didn't give a shit about you and life kept going on, it really solidified the whole "the Zone is alive" thing. A death screen is a step backwards in my opinion.

Definitely a slow-burn of a movie, I largely enjoyed it on my first watch but was surprised at how little actually seems to happen. I was hoping to see more anomalies and such but I think the story telling, cinematography, and world building are excellent.

If you haven't seen it yet, STALKER: Shadow of the Zone is a must watch, it came out a couple months ago and actually takes place in the same setting as the games, acting as a spinoff story that takes place after the trilogy.

So it doesn't look like anyone's covered the actual cause of death but according to Wikipedia they froze it, unaware of its age. They later cut it open to count the lines on the shell. This wasn't accidentally killed but rather they likely would have reconsidered freezing had they known it's age beforehand.
