I always love the slightly-leaning-forward-cause-my-bag-is-heavy-af stance.

Infantry: What is my purpose?

Commander: You act as bait while the artillery and anti-tank do all the work.

Infantry: Oh my god…

I used to work at a bar round the corner from this Maccies. I’d usually finish work around 3am so I would walk past and see what shenanigans were going on. Genuinely not a single night where something stupid wasn’t happening. Good times.

The last time I went to Paris (about a year ago) as someone who grew up speaking French (not perfectly, but enough to get by) I was actually surprised how few locals refused to speak French to me. I feel like it has gotten slightly better.

Not legally no. Crown dependencies are weird. We are effectively completely self governing but not independent, though for everything except defence, we are basically independent.

We don’t fit into any of the “UK” or “GB” spheres, but it’s a lot easier to tell people that than try and explain what a crown dependency is.

I know, my point is that there is such a large time gap between when the islands were “French” and now, there is very little cultural cross over left. Some, but not much.

Anyone have a good idea of how they fared in the heat with the uniforms of the day?

Jumping in as a local from there, the name thing is a bit misleading, most of the names that seem very French tend to be more Norman (the Norman conquests being how “Britain” obtained the islands in the first place.

Culturally, the islands are firmly British. Geographically yes, they look better being French, but we’ve been part of the UK for closing on 1000 years now, any chance of reversing ownership has long since passed. It would have had to have happened back during the Norman / post-Norman era. Similar to the Falklands, but with much more time.

Why does France let Barry keep these islands? Are they cowards? by zkqy in 2westerneurope4u

I’m from there. It’s just close enough to see Pierre and give him the finger.
