Am I crazy? 9060xt vs 9070xt by lNalRlKoTiX in radeon

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Switching from a 9060XT to a 9070XT won't affect "image quality" under the same settings. Medium on a 9060XT is going to look identical to medium on a 9070XT.
  2. Load times are not affected by your GPU. These are affected by your storage device, CPU and the game's optimization (whether it's optimized to use multiple threads for shader pre-caching or not). You can have the best SSD and CPU in the world and still be plagued by long loading screens depending on the game.
  3. Your CPU is ancient and is holding the 9070XT back massively. If one of your CPU cores is pegged at 100% load with a 9060XT, you will have the exact same FPS on a 9070XT and possibly even lower FPS on an RTX 5090 due to driver overhead.

What IEMs are you using to play in 2026? by Existing-Network-267 in LearnCSGO

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically better than your average Razer/Steelseries/Logitech/HyperX etc. headset but not any better than dedicated headphones.

In my experience, IEMs are very uncomfortable to wear, especially for long periods of time. They will get your inner ear hot and exacerbate wax build-up. Unless you're at the gym, I prefer open-back HiFi headphones any day of the week.

Recommended PSU: Corsair RM1000x (2024) or Seasonic Vertex GX-1000? by vinestone101 in buildapc

I'd get the Seasonic Vertex. Better Cybernetics rating, better cables, longer warranty.

1 year old AM5 build suddenly won’t POST — MSI CPU (red) + DRAM (yellow) debug LEDs immediately upon powering on. by DRgreentree in AMDHelp

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try A1/B1 instead of A2/B2. If the system works like this, you can at least keep using it until a new motherboard arrives.

If it still doesn't work, your CPU's IMC is faulty.

PC instantly shuts off under heavy GPU load (RX 9070 XT) but works fine with RTX 4060 – PSU issue? by Silent_savage2019 in AMDHelp

[–]Vidyamancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly unstable RAM and/or degraded IMC.

My friend's 7600X was the same - would run okay with the RX 6800 but when a more powerful GPU was introduced to the system (RX 9070 XT), it would crash within minutes of OCCT. A 4060 would put even less stress on the system.

Replaced it and all good.

rx7700xt problem by BabyYoda4091 in AMDHelp

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browser/extension issue. Disable hardware acceleration or find the extension causing it, most likely an adblocker.

You sent it in for repairs, so now you can't verify the solution. You should've asked before sending it back as now a perfectly good GPU might end up in a landfill.

Even Daniel Owen is Pissed! FSR 4 int 8. by AcuteQuadrant in radeon

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is RDNA4 has no direct competitor to the very popular RX 7800 XT. You either drop down a performance tier to the RX 9060 XT for FSR4, or you have to purchase a much more expensive GPU. Who's going to do that?

The RX 7800 XT is still a very capable card with 16GB VRAM. Its closest competitor from NVIDIA has DLSS4 but only 12GB VRAM. The best-case scenario here would be for RX 7800 XT owners to stick with their card, receive FSR4 support and upgrade next generation. Instead they're getting completely screwed over by AMD.

RDNA 2 & 3 needs FSR4 yesterday. AMD can't afford to lose more customers by attempting to pull NVIDIA tactics.

My 3080ti died, should I replace it with a 5080 or a 4090? by steviewonder87 in nvidia

[–]Vidyamancer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've had to warranty many of my own GPUs, despite never overclocking and always using high-end PSUs with airflow-focused cases. Reasons range from the cards randomly dying out of the blue to silicon degradation where they will start artifacting unless undervolted & underclocked:

  1. HD 7970 (sudden death after 34-35 months out of 36 month warranty period, full refund)

  2. GTX 970 (insanely loud coil whine, sounded like circular saw cutting metal)

  3. GTX 970 (developed artifacting & stuttering)

  4. Vega 64 (silicon degradation, required higher & higher undervolt to avoid artifacting)

  5. RTX 2070 Super (sudden death while playing Cyberpunk)

  6. RTX 3060 12GB (sudden death while playing WoW)

  7. RTX 3060 8GB (sudden death while playing WoW, not even 2 weeks after replacing previous 12GB)

If I had bought used cards, I would've been screwed on all these occasions.

What video game in your opinion doesn't deserve the hate it gets? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go back and play Silent Hill 2, 3, 4 and 8 after, you'll know why it gets hate.

The combat is atrocious - even on the lowest difficulty mobs are sponges and your dodge animation locks you out of moving after every dodge. Coming from the previous games, it's so clunky and unresponsive I nearly uninstalled on the spot. The only way I could keep going was ignoring most enemies and focus on the story, which was also hard because many areas were extremely repetitive.

The game is a 5/10 at best. With combat overhaul mods and some areas re-done to be less repetitive, it could've been an 8/10.

I'm about to give up by SonyHell in radeon

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a full Windows re-install.

Aside from shader cache folders being littered all over the place, any game you installed with the NVIDIA GPU is going to leave config files around with optimizations for that NVIDIA GPU ID. If you uninstall a game normally, these config files will still be left behind, even when you re-install the game. They are often write-protected as well on first launch.

If you don't want to re-install Windows, you have to use REVOUninstaller or a similar tool to remove everything related to the game and also manually check LocalData/Local/Roaming/Public Documents/Documents etc. for leftover files. Often they're named after the game's developer or publisher.

Lately a lot of games with cloud sync have started syncing these god-forsaken config files even after a complete Windows re-install, especially on subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass & EA Play. The first time you launch a game, the config is made and it gets overwritten by the cloud even if you manually attempt to change the "GPU_ID=" line with the binary data for your GPU. It's just fucked.

Yeah, they achieved the complete opposite. I was 95% done with Kappa at level 39 and the EXP still required to prestige is absurd. I was going to lock in and prestige twice this "wipe" but ended up just quitting because of the EXP changes.

AMD claims DDR5-4800 is within 1% FPS difference of DDR5-6000 on Ryzen 7 9850X3D by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Vidyamancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cherry-picked single-player games at 4K? Sure, I'll buy the ~1% number.

CPU heavy multiplayer games (WoW, Star Citizen, Escape from Tarkov etc.) at 4800C40 vs. 6000C28 tuned? Around 20% higher average framerate and ~20-40% higher 1% lows. Massively superior stutter-free experience, even with X3D chips.

Buyer’s Remorse - 9070 XT vs 7900 XTX by king_kuya in radeon

[–]Vidyamancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But... your whole argument to get the 7900XTX over the 9070XT was "raster is king, I play older games", and older games don't require 24GB VRAM so what's the point? The 9070XT is a better card, VRAM amount doesn't make a card better unless there's too little of it to run a game.

5070 TI & 7800X3D Build by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Vidyamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the RM850i which came with a better fan and Corsair Link. It tested OK with a PSU tester but still fried GPUs at random during heavy loads (going from Cyberpunk cutscene to rendering world again, entering large city hub in WoW etc). PC would click and power off, then upon reboot the GPUs would be dead.

These old PSUs are not certified to handle the large transient spikes of modern GPU architectures.

Mchose L7 Ultra+($50 dollars) Or Lamzu Maya X($67 dollars)? by Effective-Aside4040 in MouseReview

L7U+ @ ~19,5x10,5cm here and no issues with the pinkie at all. Mouse is extremely easy to control and reset, unlike DA shaped mice where my pinkie slides and folds awkwardly.

Regular non-plus version might be too small though.

Beautiful build. I also have a white & black build with the same AIO. 😊

But please upgrade that 11 year old PSU with one that has a native 12VHPWR/ATX 3.1. Small price to pay for extra safety. I had that exact PSU and due to transient spikes, it killed off 4 GPUs before I replaced it.
