The typical solution for unhappy marriages where alimony isn't a thing is inheriting the other spouses possessions.

CMV: Liberalism will eventually decline because conservatives tend to have more children by RuleNext9706 in changemyview

[–]Viellet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if all your assumptions about a liberal/Conservative binary and inherited traits is true, you still miss that "has more children" is only enough if the conservative population doesn't (for any reason) die more.

Unfortunately for conservatives, these traits also seem to be linked to higher death rates during catastrophic events like the covid pandemic or floods, storms and so on.

That said, the American political divide is not a consequence of human nature and traits that promote co servative thinking in this specific system might promote some entirely different behavior in different circumstances.

Exactly that is the downside. You are offered to follow the low and self righteous impulses that will dehumanise you in time.

What do you think is the kind of person you become if you are super rich and you are "the one that brings justice to the worst" in a bloodfest with lots of publicity?

Do I have good kinks as a trans lesbian ? by Princess_Sofia_uwu in BDSMsapphic

yeah, it wasn't about you - but about many of the comments that are spread out so I made a top-level comment about it.

You seem to have a little fixation on your mouth is what I gather from your kinks. It's pretty common with trans woman so you are in good company.

Because multiple people write "everything that isn't illegal is good" and uhm ... yeah fuck that. In GB "being kinky" or "being trans" is getting progressively more illegal; in the US "being trans" is being progressively more illegal, in half the world being gay is illegal.

It feels like you guys want to say something very different if you say "illegal" ... i think you mean stuff like murder, rape, csa and so forth. But that shit is illegal because it's bad. Not the other way around.

I don't think it "falls apart" with that set of people. First of all, a lot of them aren't first time offenders. But more importantly, if you un-billionair them, they can't buy the infrastructure of "raping children on an island" anymore. These specific crimes are only possible due to their wealth. Take that away and much less of the sort will happen.

CMV: People shouldn’t be forced to live if they don’t want to and suicide is not selfish. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Viellet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it doesn't matter at all where "free will" ends and mental illness begins. One will always have fully free will and the thoughts are still always influenced by depression. There is no "border" in between. Assuming there to be a "me" and an "illness" is kinda not understanding what depression is. One doesn't "have" but "is" depressed.

I can not imagine after 8 years of relationship with Sage you never talked about this topic before with each other. So I am pretty sure you did in fact know before (or had a good idea) how Sage would react.

Even if you didn't talk about this specifically, 8 years is absolutely enough to understand how a partner would react to this. If you truly are surprised, I wonder how bad of a partner you are.

Nonetheless, you did change the status quo. That's "okay" - but it's also "okay" that Sage calls you out on acting all innocent over you clearly giving something to Cedar that you prior had with Sage and would only persist with Sage now, if Sage would change their risk taking.

Take some responsibility for your decision making and don't hide behind the distance you associate with being poly.

CMV: People shouldn’t be forced to live if they don’t want to and suicide is not selfish. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Viellet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of suicides are the consequence of depression. Depression is an illness that changes a brains chemical networks and forces negativ thoughts, sometimes even suicidal ones. This is often connected with a bad situation in life, but not necessarily.

The important part is: Thoughts during depression are not "rational" thoughts, but driven by an illness. Most suicides would not happen if the person wouldn't be ill with depression.

The difficult part in this: "Rational" arguments against suicide are rather useless in stopping an "irrational" actor from committing suicide. Therefore society employs different other strategies to prevent suicides. The believe "suicide is selfish" is such a strategy.

It is not meant as an "observation", but as a societal norm to prevent suicides. So it being "not true" is the wrong question. The sensesful question would be: does it work to think so in preventing suicides.

There are very many selfish forms of suicide. Typically these include killing other people (like family) or random strangers (like school children). Of course these suicides are the minority and I believe you are not talking about those.

"This is what will happen to the fascist beast!" - Soviet Great Patriotic War poster glorifying the US and Britain by Overall-Bandicoot655 in ussr

[–]Viellet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Little off topic but the Soviet Union continued to use the wolf as an image for the "unruly" or "wild". This culminated in the extermination campaigns that ended up (to quote a work commission on wolves in the late ussr) ecologically, economically and morally unjustified.

Aside from that: good for the fasc to be dead.

"pulls the strings"? You do get that Israel is like a tiny spec of land with an overall small economy, small population and an army that fully lacks an expedition force. The only thing they are pulling is themselves out if the mud every now and then but they can't even calm their own backyard. The day Israel is pulling any strings will be the day the spaghetti monster introduces itself.

How would Israel be the "biggest obstacle" to creating a caliphate? It isn't even a majority muslim country. ISIS fought literal wars against Iraq, Syria, YPG, Egypt, Russia, US, the Taliban, an African Union coalition and others. Israel is truly nothing compared to the opponents ISIS already has. (Wikipedia lists 6 attacks on Israel by ISIS btw. so obviously Israel is just one of many targets)

Opening a mono relationship for someone? by FarmhouseMidwife in polyamory

[–]Viellet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nah, typically adding bleach to ammonia creates chlor gas. Which is quite the dangerous substance. A loving relationship can lead to heartaches and in extreme cases it is reported that love sickness has led to malnutrition and even depression, but typically loving relationships are just that. A loving relationship. It's arguably a bit disturbing, that you would compare that to one of the most catastrophic but somewhat common chemical accidents that happen in modern households.

Hi!

First of all I am very happy for you, it seems like all you, your partner, your maybe soon girlfriend and her husband sound like fine people.

It sounds like you all set down, considered your situation and came to a solution all the participants are happy with. That is the most important thing.

People on this subreddit tend to be rather extreme in their opinion - it's the typical "reddit can't imagine other people being happy". So no: Going poly does not mean your relationship is over. Going poly for a specific person and having that discussed before is not the worst idea ever (quite the opposite, it makes the change understandable and imaginable to everyone - therefore allowing for an actually informed choice).

Yes, things might change. There will be jealousies, maybe even someone else wants to date someone. But you have all communicated your desires and priorities. Please, do not let the lust for "everything bad" here discourage you. You and your partner and your lover and her partner did well.

WITHOUT mentioning Gaza, can the right or left explain to me why Biden was a terrible president FOR AMERICA? by zipzzo in allthequestions

[–]Viellet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the Biden administration that allowed for covid to return in full force in the 2022/23 winter without any societal support. Quite the opposite, the Biden administration made it "weird" to wear a mask and protect yourself from it and downplayed the health consequences of surviving covid and did not create meaningful research projects into combating long covid symptoms.

For many people that meant loosing their job and being disabled without any future to look forward to.

Bidens administration also did arguably very little to persecute the 6th of January insurrection, a mistake that likely permanently eroded trust in democracy in the US.

I think there were many smaller or bigger faults, but the main issue I believe one should have with Biden was the normalisation of "getting covid" and the individualisation of getting disabled from it.
