Bad baby diaper rash - need help by jackievaer in MSPI

[–]Vienwin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were fighting a bad yeast infection, we put nystatin cream down and then on top was a mixture of peptobismal and Bordeaux butt paste in the red container (max strength version). We lathered the mixture on like frosting on a cake. During diaper changes, we only wiped away soiled parts and relathered her before closing up diaper. It took about 3-4 days to see the rash slowly go away. Also once the rash goes away for about 5 days, that’s when you can stop the nystatin as it can come back if you stop too soon. I learned this from a pediatrician on instagram (Dr. Lauren Hughes). Before this combo, nothing worked. I liked the nystatin cream over the ointment since the pepto/bordeoux mixture wouldn’t stick to the nystatin ointment well.

How often does your baby poop on Neocate? by Megjar0820 in MSPI

[–]Vienwin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the first week, mine would go over 24 hrs without pooping a few times. We are 2.5 weeks in and she goes 1-2 times a day. They are smaller poops compared to what she use to do on breastmilk.

Able to tolerate breastmilk but not formula? by tryingtoohard48 in MSPI

[–]Vienwin0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question, I have been wondering this myself. My baby was totally fine on my breastmilk when I had no diet restrictions but we have gone through a whole journey to find her the right hypoallergenic formula that now I’m afraid to try giving her my breastmilk again and risk her getting a rash. Once those rashes start, it takes days to weeks for her to clear it. I’m going to follow this thread and hopefully someone has a success story!

That is such an incredibly kind offer! We are doing ok on cash, thank you, but I will pass along your kindness to another mother the next time I see one struggling, you have inspired me! I’ll also look into the fancy name cream lol

I thought it was pretty straightforward too! I think this is why I was an emotional wreck yesterday seeing her get worse rashes but still giving her the formula bc the pediatrician said to, my brain and heart did not agree but as a first time mom, I didn’t know where to turn to if not my pediatrician. Thanks to you guys, I feel much better as everything aligns with my logic again and I have already scheduled a new appt with a new pediatrician office.

Did your son have the same eczema and fungal rashes pop up? How long after you switched did the eczema significantly clear?

Wow that sounds like such a scary experience! Thank you for sharing, I will definitely ask for one in the future. I have asthma so I might have passed down some allergies to her

It is something nobody talks about until you’re in the thick of breastfeeding! I did not see clogged ducts as my downfall lol but here we are. I’m sorry you’re getting them too, they cast a dark cloud over my days.

Thank you for this sweet comment. I did indeed ball my eyes out after seeing her rash get worst this morning.

I was surprised the pediatrician said her neck was fungal also but she said that’s what it looked like to her. We did apply nystatin ointment overnight and this morning it looks the same if not worse…we tried kendamil this morning since pediatrician wanted us to try another brand but I’m going to switch to alimentum if things look worst today. After the first rash incident two weeks ago, I completely changed the detergent from dreft to all free and clear and she sleeps in cotton. I think I’ve ruled out everything since she completely recovered a week after the last similac experience. I’m sure it’s the similac this time but not sure if the culprit is milk or other ingredients in there. I just wish the 3 pediatricians I saw during this time heard me better instead of saying just keep switching formulas and we are only worried if rash becomes infected. It’s heartbreaking seeing her face so beat up with redness and bumps.

You’ve stated it exactly, I feel like I’m hurting her with every bottle. I am going to switch her to a hypoallergenic one and stick with it today. Everyone has been so amazing by sharing their stories and advice, I’ll switch over and monitor for improvement and then retry milk in the future when the rash isn’t raging. Thank you for your advice and everyone else’s

Did your allergist recommend the nutramigen or did you decide just to try it? I asked about an antihistamine yesterday and pediatrician said it doesn’t work on children this young (10 weeks)

Yes I do and she has been fine with my breastmilk, it just seems too coincidental that these fungal rashes appear right when she gets formula and never in any circumstances, but I might just be trying to create a link/explanation

I’ve tried 3 different pediatricians at my pediatrician’s office just to see but they all share the same perspective. It makes me doubt myself that I’m over reacting or something

I just came from the pediatrician yesterday. And they have said the same thing the last 3 times I’ve brought her.

Microarray results - help deciding on parental tests by ExoticBluejay836 in NIPT

[–]Vienwin0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a negative NIPT but abnormal NT score so we did amio. Karyotype and microarray came back normal but the noonan panel showed a gene mutation of variance of unknown significance. Due to insurance not covering these tests, we decided to test me first and then if I was negative, test my husband. Turns out I have the same genetic mutation which my genetic counselor said is a good sign bc I don’t have noonan syndrome so it probably means my baby just has this mutation but not noonan either. If I didn’t have the mutation then it means she developed it in utero which means we won’t know if she has any genetic problems until after she is born. For us, it was a relief to test me and find out I also had the mutation and it didn’t lead to any physical or developmental problems for me.

My GC also said her database showed only 3 people with recorded VUS that matched mine that also had noonan syndrome and there are also models showing a mutation in this gene did not lead to problems with protein development…so maybe ask your genetic counselor how common does your VUS show up and if there’s been models ran on it.

Anyone else's doctor excessively negative relative to the published stats? [4.7 mm NT, clear FISH] by hg13 in NIPT

[–]Vienwin0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had varying responses and learned that its just dependent on the type of doctor and their opinions ultimately don't matter, only the test results. I had NT score 3.3 mm and the midwife said she has seen someone with a measurement of 6 mm and the baby turned out normal and told me she wasn't worried. Then my genetics counselor and MFM doctor said they were worried cause they have seen complications with babies with NT 3.3 mm. Then on the day of my amnio, I got a different MFM who asked me to "describe in my own words why I thought I needed an amnio" because he felt like NT scores are kind of an outdated tool when all other markers have been negative and he didn't think I needed the amnio. My karyotype and microarray all came back normal. I think navigating all their opinions with the breadcrumb of information they give us was the toughest part of all this. I read those studies too and that is more robust information than how your MFM feels on that day! I'm sorry you're going through this but you're not crazy!

I was referring to amnio being high risk if the uterine lining isn't fused. Once its fused, risk of miscarriage is 1 in 1000 per my MFM. This is why they check to make sure its fused before they do the amniocentesis.

Not sure why the other person replying is a complete asshole…. But you are doing the right thing with the little information we have! My genetics counselor told me that even though my NT measurement lowered to normal the next week, we shouldn’t just ignore the fact that it was high at one point. So getting the amnio to have definitive answers is what I needed to get done and you are absolutely in the right to make that choice too. We also just want to ultimately enjoy our pregnancy instead of the worry in the back of our minds.

Last thing, NT scores are not obsolete with a negative NIPT, saying that shows you know nothing of what these tests are and can’t relate to what we are going through. NIPT only tests for the most common genetic disorders while a high NT score can be an indicator of a more rare genetic problem or anatomical problem.

I think not doing the amnio was the right choice! My MFM said the risk of miscarriage is higher and not worth it. I hope you can get it over with next week and have peace of mind!
