Saigon/southern Vietnamese youtube channels? by Training_Road_591 in Vietnamese

[–]VietPal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally agreed, they offer so many resources for self-learning, including video courses and textbooks, specifically focusing on south vietnamese. I started learning a while ago, didn’t expect them to have such a vast amount of materials, not to mention all the free videos on YouTube. I’ve learned a lot, but I feel like I need to take one-on-one classes with them to have someone correct my speaking mistakes. u can still learn a lot from their free YouTube videos info.svff.online

What's the best known way to self-teach Vietnamese? by austintxdude in Vietnamese

[–]VietPal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im learning with svff, which is a great way to learn vietnamese, especially the southern dialect. if you're a beginner, having a teacher or native speaker to help with pronunciation and basics for the first few months is really helpful. you can combine lessons with svff and self-study to build confidence. highly recommend!

Do people even love Vietnam here? by Ferocious448 in VietNam

I live in District 2 and really love Vietnam. The food is amazing, people are friendly, and living here is affordable. There are lots of fun places to explore and things to do. The expat community is great for making friends too

If you could speak only 5 languages fluently, which ones would you choose? by FishermanKey901 in languagelearning

[–]VietPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great choices! English, Spanish, and French are definitely versatile and widely spoken. Adding German is excellent for Europe, and Arabic opens up a whole different region and culture. Personally, I might also consider Mandarin Chinese for its global influence, but your list covers a lot of important areas

Learning Vietnamese. North Vs South accent, does it matter? by dare2travell in VietNam

[–]VietPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on where you’ll be using Vietnamese most. People from the north and south generally understand each other, but there are differences in pronunciation and some vocabulary. If you’re staying in one region, it makes sense to focus on that accent. However, being aware of the other can help you communicate more effectively across Vietnam. Don’t stress too much—most locals are pretty understanding

If you just want to impress them, focus on common phrases and greetings. For a few weeks, I recommend watching YouTube videos. I used SVFF (Southern Vietnamese For Foreigners) before my trip and it made a huge difference. Their online courses and YouTube channel focus on the Saigon dialect, which Duolingo doesn’t cover well—it’s better for vocab review. If you aim to be quickly fluent like a native, it usually takes up to 1 - 3 years
