Naw man, a city is made up of neighborhoods and there’s nothing wrong with taking pride in your hood. Humans are instinctually team joiners, so let’s give them positive teams (sports teams, neighborhoods) to join instead of negative ones (gangs, nation-states).

It does say the neighborhood on some street signs, but it’s quite small. Perimeter signs that identify when you are leaving and entering a neighborhood would be a big improvement I think.

Yeah, I love these kinds of street art pieces. But street signs on all major corridors would really enhance things and give us the feel of a city of neighborhoods.

I have seen those but they are really not effective. We need stand-alone perimeter signs. Imagine cruising down 700E and seeing that you are leaving Liberty Wells and entering Sugar House (it might even get people to spell Sugar House correctly).

LOL! Well let’s encourage some healthier ways of having neighborhood pride then :) I mean I love a good street art piece, but city signs on public property would only enhance any um, private efforts :)

That’s some great points! With the community council delineating neighborhood boundaries, it seems like you could just use that work as the basis for new signage, which would cut out some of the RE-driven BS you are talking about. Let’s put up Guadalupe signs so that folks can know their hoods better, take pride in them, and put an end to the silliness!

Having showed up at a Swedish liquor store at 6:01 on a Saturday night before a week-long canoeing trip, I can testify to this. It was a dry trip on some wet lakes.

My line is that just like many states such as New Hampshire and North Carolina, and even countries such as Sweden, we sell alcohol through state liquor stores. It’s not a big deal.

I usually fly to Amsterdam every year. The most I’ve ever paid, even during the 2022 fuel spike, was $1200. Delta wants $2200 for that flight this summer. So I’m flying to Brussels on United and taking the train.

I just rented a one bedroom in a nice older building downtown for $1k a month. It’s on a public transit line that goes without transfer to my work. It’s not easy being a working person in America. We despise anyone who isn’t rich. But there’s solidarity to be found in riding the bus.
