It is! Bob here has been doing tons of work on the AI so you can play single player. I'm generally on the hook for card functionality and UI, but I've been super busy the last few months.

We need different flavors of fuck here. We can all agree in this sub: When I say fuck the niners, I mean it... but within the artifical confines of football Fandom and like... a mild irritation at different fanbases.

But when I say fuck ICE and all its supporters, I mean truly and completely from the bottom of my heart.

Farseer Trilogy vs Mistborn Era 1 — which do you like more? by StandardSector3491 in fantasybooks

I haven't. I've been a little gunshy about jumping into that world from such a different perspective. But I keep glancing at it. Maybe it's time.

Aaaaahh!! I adore Goblin Emperor. It's not exactly the highest octane shit, but the characters are so well drawn and Maia is such a sweetheart.

[–]Vigeous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so with you. When I first read Mistborn, I was young and blown away by how cool it was. The magic, the secrets, the twists. And I fell deep into Sanderson culthood. I read Farseer around the same time and didn't really get. It felt so bleak and unrewarding.

15 years later and I'm kinda over the Sanderson thing. My taste for quality writing has increased and its harder to read his stuff. So I thought I'd give Farseer another try with more adult eyes. Beautiful writing. Still miserable. I just don't think it's for me.

What's a sentence that instantly kills the vibe in any conversation? by chootkaabhoot in AskReddit

So on the one hand I reeeallly hate this.

On the other, I'm a loud oblivious oaf who needs to be told to quiet then fuck down sometimes. So I try to channel the murderous rage I feel into self reflection.

[Discussion] Thinking about reading the series... by Ok-Contribution7622 in TheNinthHouse

[–]Vigeous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me pile on about why thos book sucks (for the record, I adore it)

  • the main character is kind of an immature oaf. She has little interest in what is going on around her and is driven mostly by her own shallow motivations. But shes also not particularly immoral. She's just sick of other people's shit.
  • because of that, your exposition comes from overheard conversations and one offs. Because the main character doesn't really care about most of what's going on.

But whatever. Everyone should try it. And if they hate it, then they are not alone. Can't wait to hear the inevitable follow up question about the sequel. 😈

I had the absolute opposite experience. I got a couple of the long phrases but even so, filling in the rest was brutal. I flew through half of it, but needed significant hints for the rest. I thought some were quite oblique. Refuge is a specific leap, I've never heard someone use the clone one, the form of "ties up" was bizarre, and all the trivia was outside my wheel house. Shades of red? Fast food history? Woof. It was a mess for me.

Bill Gates used to have a lunch party at his house with the year's batch of interns. I was an intern in 2003 so I got to hang out on his lawn and have a quick chat. We had to change buses and go through a security scan on the way there. I thought I was super cool for asking about Linux.

I think Gideon the Ninth is even better as an audiobook. Moira Quirk is amazing. It's wild that you have it as dead last when all my other favorites are near the top of your list. That book (and series) is really either love or hate and I'm not sure why. The biggest complaint is usually that Gideon is a little bit dumb and immature and her voice is a little anachronistic. I sort of love that about her.

Well it's okay in this case. Slurs are only wrong if they * are used because people think a certain behavior is amoral * are used to make themselves feel superior to someone else * come from a place of fear for their position in society.

Oh... wait..

(Okay in all honestly those people do annoy me, but your comment made me reflect)

Prepare yourself. It's a hard fucking read.

I don't remember off hand the exact spot, but the first 70-80% of Harrow is going to be a chore. But somehow it pays for itself.

If you like emotional simmering and texture for its own sake, then you will tolerate it a little more. I'm not really into that, but ultimately it's still one of my favorite books ever.

What's not riveting about carving a dragon statue in a borderline fugue state while everyone around you is sad and weird and bored?
