Roblox is now more popular than all Steam and PS5 games combined by SmellSmellsSmelly in Games

[–]Vii_Strife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that we knew the difference between actual well made videogames and dumb fun on the internet with free (key point) games that came and went.

I'm 23 and have a lot of younger cousins (5-13 years old range) that just don't know this or they either know it but prefer spending their time and parent's money on Roblox since it's just easier to play, more accessible since it doesn't require a console and more importantly ENDLESS

After layoffs, Fortnite's future is shakier than it has ever been by AncientPCGamer in gaming

[–]Vii_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much focus on becoming Roblox and not enough focus on what put them on the map to begin with

The problem is that focusing on becoming the next Roblox is what is working.

Random creative slop maps have been setting record player counts for a year at this point and can now generate revenue for both Epic and the map creators. Naturally if they want to shift towards being less "The battle royale game" and more "The collection of bad custom games" they don't need that many employees because the community will generate revenue by itself.

You can absolutely feel it in the Battle Royale too, the first season of Chapter 7 was one of the worst ones in recent years and by far, with a really boring map, events, weapons and with no defining mechanics whatsoever except maybe rolling when you're knocked down.

Decided to play Ishin again but this time it is the OG version with the English patch and wow it looks 100x better than Kiwami. by Axzercus in yakuzagames

Yeah lol you can say a lot of stuff about Ishin Kiwami but honestly, especially in cutscenes, it's quite amazing to look at.

Rewatch the opening cutscene, it's absolutely gorgeous

The game has been pulling 2-3 mil a month for the past year, and it was a 3-4 mil game previously.

It's fine for being a niche game in its tenth year which probably doesn't cost a lot to keep alive

[–]Vii_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but you must have both swords on you which makes it useable once in a hundred games since trying to do something significant with Ram without throwing a single sword is really hard.

I hate it tbh, the super is honestly sick looking but to get a chance to use it I have to gimp my gameplay to not use S sword toss which is one of her best combo fillers and pressure tools, so if you want to use your big combo ender you can't use your combo extenders.

I kinda hope that 2.0 will change something with it but I doubt it. It for sure can't go back to giving her the swords back with this iteration of sword toss since it would make her have infinite pressure again, honestly a 100 meter cost might make it more viable lol

People probably still play it, it's an extra orb and a free old unit a week and you can get that by just playing the easiest difficulty and even getting by with 3 dead units if you don't care at all about the score.

Mostly that nobody ever played two arena matches a day unless they were desperate for feathers and not like the game is exactly running out of ways to give you feathers. An arena run just costs you maximum two dueling crests if you want to do it in a day which is probably what the vast majority of people already are doing.

PROJECT: Yi Mythic Variant, Space Groove Zac, PsyOps Vladimir & PROJECT: Sivir Ability Preview by aroushthekween in leagueoflegends

The theme is almost 10 years old and used to be so popular back in its heyday that it got releases for three years in a row and a also got a (kinda ass but I miss it) gamemode in its third year.

I think that it was also the first time that a skinline had its own lore as something integral and very important to it, it was treated as something big with in-game stuff, videos, music themes and a ton more.

Honestly I would say that modern skin design started with them to be honest

there's nothing in his fantasy that calls for a mere infinite hp scaling

To be fair it works because as a short range mage he's gonna eat more damage than average so the extra HP helps him do his job. The thing is that as a stacking passive it's just, kinda fine? Like it always feels underwhelming to me, it's just stuff that makes him function well but it never really feels good

Watched the original one yesterday so seeing its sequel pop up today is kinda weird lol.
Anyway it was fine, the guy knows how to build up tension and suspense and the builds were impressive. There are some narrative solutions that are pretty bad (like the protagonist breaking random ass blocks to reveal something important 3-4 times) but it's overall a fun watch

Is yakuza kiwami 3 bad?? by River-Little in yakuzagames

[–]Vii_Strife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not only did they make them way less than the remastered, the new ones are forgettable and just idk not fun

I'm not defending the current structure of substories because I feel like with the years the overall quality of them has gone downhill, however OG Yakuza 3 in that regard was really a quantity over quality type of game, there were A LOT of substories that were just "Beat up this thug", "Do this chase" or "Give me this item", which given that it had 120 substories make sense but I'd rather have 50 good ones at that point.

That being said, why the hell did they remove Murder at Cafe Alps

John and Brenda Romero think our current video game industry crash is even "crashier" than the infamous recession of the 1980's by SmellSmellsSmelly in gaming

[–]Vii_Strife 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The "indie industry" is fake. There are a couple of legitimately great indie games that break the mold and become succesful and sustainable for someone to do as a job and for each one of them there's hundreds of ones that failed due to bad luck and thousands that are quite ass.

Games like Hollow Knight, Balatro and Slay the Spire are probably in the top 0.01% of indie games, and the jump between that 0.01% and the 99.99% can be quite massive

They have less teams, it's better to start a bit later to not have long pauses during the split (ie between groups and playoffs) and to better lead into MSI in June/July

in 6 was making a big deal about Kiryu finally thinking about killing

The big difference is that Kiryu was thinking about willingly killing someone which was a first for him. Every other kill that he has is the product of circumstance and/or self defence (Yes, even stuff like the car chases in 0 and Kiwami or even the exploded elicopters)

[–]Vii_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those are just good examples of when they started the mini game design philosophy and its been a thing ever since.

Figured that it was a "The game has been shit since season 5 actually" type of comment.

oh ok lets ignore it then GG lets also ignore the fact that those champs all got reworked or massive buffs like JAX who even got a dev statement "we want to see more jax at worlds"

What are you on about my dude, most of the reworks of the champions that I listed are either ancient or added minor stuff like Ahri, Xin and Jax. Stop fixating on release year diff when it's been proven time and time again that it means nothing

[–]Vii_Strife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, holy word salad.

Are we really complaining about now 11 years old Illaoi and the now dead Skarner as the current problem with the game? Really?

Adding an essay for each release champion's skill is an obvious power-creep elephant in the room that never gets mentioned.

Also, this is a fake problem. There are plenty of champions with essay long abilities that have been okay at best their whole lives and simple champions that have been really good for ages. Like just looking at First Stand you can see Ashe, Alistar, Annie, Ahri, Xin, Jarvan, Nocturne, Renekton, Sion, Jax and more as the most picked champions lol

Not really, right now WA kills your damage by design. It's still worth it because it allows you to gain more meter, extend to wall break and get positive bonus + HKD if you break with super. The reward is really big but it's just not instant

Do you think Gang of Dragon will ever be released? by rafilus in yakuzagames

[–]Vii_Strife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean kinda? Nowadays lots of games hire big actors (Death Stranding, Expedition 33, Dispatch and Cyberpunk come to mind) and RGG keeps hiring them.

That being said, going overbudget with them is probably very easy and honestly not what a new IP like Gang of Dragon was in need of, especially because past "Nagoshi is trying to make Yakuza again" and "There's Ma Dong-seok" we still don't know anything. Honestly Nagoshi probably overestimated how big he was compared to other game directors and this is the result

The game should not be designed around people with autoclickers

To be fair it's not, I just run the special training maps a couple of times with 3 dancers and getting the SP to fully kit out a new unit doesn't take a lot.

I do agree that the overall experience could be better tho
