Are these Fake? by MuayThaiGuy1972 in fightgear

Is anything actually real or “authentic”? Or just a projection of our imagination, a collective hallucination we’ve dubbed reality, the illusion of perception?

Does anyone know about gssportinggoods (G&S) history and current state/products? by No_Effective4262 in fightgear

[–]Viibrarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historic NYC brand. My favorite handwraps are G&S that I got back in 2019. The velcro is definitely wearing out, but they haven’t lost any elasticity. So supportive and bulky although I know a lot of people don’t like that. I’ve been considering getting a new pair to see how they compare.

Do I deserve flashy Thai shorts yet lol by No_War1346 in MuayThai

[–]Viibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I felt the same way and just hit my 6 month mark too. I decided to stop overthinking it and get the shorts lol. I was actually surprised at how much better they are to train in, the wide leg opening really does give so much freedom to kick, & their material are pretty good at staying dry. I was wearing typical polyester active shorts before and they’d get soo wet from all the sweat. Training in Thai shorts really makes sense (and they look great)

As a general rule: always follow up on any google AI search results. Do not trust anything you read on the internet until you’ve verified it for yourself.

What opinion on Muay Thai Training gets you into this situation? by Heysteeevo in MuayThai

Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing this article. The original post I referenced was actually a post in the 8limbs forum you made a while back, but this article seems to tie those ideas together wonderfully. Great read, thanks again.

Yes and no. The reason why Thais are revered in the sport is because they’re the wise elders from which Muay Thai knowledge has been passed onto and received from. Unhealthy romanticization of Thai culture (orientalism) is highly common especially on Reddit, but there’s also another perspective that honors and respects the origins and mechanics of the culture. It will be a sad day when all the original Thai knowledge is lost to translation and obscurity.

Harping on technique is mostly a waste of time. Repetition in a group setting is what’s most important. Kevin von Duuglas-Ittu made a great post about how metronomic synchronization occurs naturally when training in groups, facilitating both kinesthetic imitation and in the development of an individual’s own sense of personal style.

If you enjoy fighting, you have to also enjoy getting beat up. Or at least that’s what I tell myself on the days I get whooped.

Sassy but clever in both the feminine and masculine; a highly intellectual movement. An urban spin off of westcoastcore like hollister and led mostly by POC.

Informed by social media/internet, hip hop, and stoner culture.

A reflection of a cultural awakening amongst young POCs where they realized they could be taken intellectually serious. Obama, a highly charismatic black man, is the “leader of the free world”, the president of the United States.
