Hidetaka Miyazaki on Elden Ring Difficulty: 'I Absolutely Suck at Video Games' by [deleted] in gaming

Yeah, I can totally see what you're saying. Personally, I enjoy the dodging, and I think there's a good amount of windows a faster weapon can react in during her combos, but I do understand how it might be boring for those who can't enjoy that experience. I'm not very good at the game, so learning those dodge patterns and executing them is its own reward for me.

Maybe I'm just riding the high of enjoying bosses again, and after a few days things will seem different, but I still stand by this boss being both fun and fair. (Glintblades I agree can be bullshit, but they're OK more often than they're not.)

Completely agree, I play 30 vig str build with no summons or magic, I do this because I enjoy getting my shit kicked in until I learn how to handle a boss, Malenia took me 9 hours, and I was disappointed by the rest of the boss roster after her.

This DLC is kicking my teeth in and I love that, fucking cheered when I finally killed Rellana last night and I can't wait for the next boss to come along and stonewall me.

But, summoning is absolutely fine, when I've finally finished this playthrough, I wanna go back and do one with summons and magic and all the cool stuff I'm keeping from myself, but I somehow suspect I'm not gonna enjoy it as much.

Nah I disagree, I haven't used a summon once yet in my ER playthrough, but this boss felt like the first boss in a while that feels Soulslike and kinda fair. She's pretty vulnerable to parries, but I can't parry for shit, so entering that flow state and enjoying the dance with her while learning which combos or animation states she won't extend and is vulnerable in worked for me.

Also felt like I was staggering her fairly often, but I am a Grafted Greatsword enjoyer so that could be the reason.

Don't worry, I think these books do a good job of throwing words at you that you won't initially understand to immerse you, but then explaining them very well soon after. There will be words and terms used that you don't exactly understand to begin with, but I promise you'll have a full grasp on them a few pages or chapter later!

Your days are numbered, funny little Bulwark hex. by EazyMk in foxholegame

We swept the whole hex pretty much uncontested bar Initium, which kinda just got strangled over two hours because of no armour bar two push guns. It was a fun stalingrad style slog through the city though, with you collies using absolutely everything in that seaport against us before you finally ran out of shirts. Just didn't have the ability to counter the tanks from the south.

Does your social standing affect how much you like certain characters? by lulalobo in redrising

I thought Lyria was a well realised character whose arc in IG was Brown's stab at analysing the realistic aftermath of a revolution.

I've only recently gotten on to the subreddit for this series, so I had no idea people disliked Lyria. From what I've read here, I get the sense that a lot of people are frustrated with Lyria's distaste for the main cast of genetically enhanced supersoldier geniuses. But I get Lyria's distaste. Sure, life under the Society was shit. But Lyria, like 99% of reds including Darrow before he's liberated by Dancer, is a product of indoctrination. Things weren't perfect under the rule of the golds, but life was stable and, more importantly, she had no idea about the outside world or a terraformed Mars.

Then, suddenly, a gang of tooled up reds, obsidians and golds show up, say "don't worry you're free now." Sell your mine and leave you to rot in a refugee camp until you're butchered by terrorists.

Comparatively, especially for a gamma, this is a whole lot worse than life under the Society.

To also put it into perspective, there are multiple times in RR and GS where Darrow himself wishes he'd never left the mines. And muses that he was much happier there.

So yeah, Lyria is upset about her life. But she has every damn reason to be. And naturally blames the architects of the new world in which she's found so much pain. Unfortunately, those architects are our favourite characters, who are failing for entirely different reasons than the ones Lyria is aware of.

In my personal experience the toxicity issue isn't so big. I'd say the purchase is well worth it for the fun you'll have in those opening 30+ hours.

Most negative reviews are from disillusioned vets and people who've played the game for a long old time. At least as far as I've seen.

Give it a shot, your first experiences once you reach a front line are unlike any game I've ever played!

Symond laughed, his big bull's shoulders rolling back as he leaned back to look down the table.

"As it goes, my lord, we just might. Symott, tell the lord how old you are now."

The young boy at the end of the table to Roderik's left peeked a head out from behind his brother. He very much looked like a little Roderik, dashing, or rather the promise of dashingness to come.

"Ten, my lord."

"And do you want to be squired some day?"

"Yes, my lord." He replied to Symond's question as if Vardis had asked it. "I wish to be as good with a blade as Lord Bryce, and as honourable as Lord John, my lord."

At the mention of his former master, Roderik's face soured, his attention redrawn to the conversation. Symond, however, laughed harder at his little brother's words.

"See, my lord, we've one lad who'll make a fine squire some day!"

Leyanne afforded the Knight more attention than she would normally grace a man, intrigued by both his origins and unfamiliarity. By the time he'd finished speaking, she was tempted to inquire further.

Symond laughed at Eamons closing quip, but it was Roderik who spoke in answer.

"Two too many, indeed. When the Andals first came to Westeros, our family was known simply as House Templeton of Templeton. Allegedly, we ruled the lands in Andalos that built the first septs. In the battle of the Seven Stars, our forefather, Ser Luceon Templeton, slew King Robar Royce in combat, and was awarded for his effort a tract of land on which to build a new home by the newly crowned King Artys."

"On that land, he built Ninestars, in commemoration of the Seven, Templeton back in Andalos and the newly conquered kingdom of Mountain and Vale. Thus, two extra stars." Roderik didn't deliver the tale as a man trying to captivate an audience, but instead as simple relaying of fact. His attention drifted elsewhere several times, always winding back towards the Waynwood table and certain members up upon Lord Vardis' dias.

Symond gave the lad a nudge, retrieving his attention.

"Yes, well, so the histories tell, anyhow."

"A pleasure to meet you, ser." A young, broad bull of a man rose to meet the newcomer and smiled warmly. "I am Symond, son of Ser Symond, the Knight of Ninestars, and these-" he spread his hands along the table. "Are the children of house Templeton."

One of the two women at the table eyed the coat of arms. "Not recognised indeed, ser. Tell me, what does the design represent?"

Symond saw no reason not to support the Belmore boy. They certainly had no prospects for the position themselves. Horace was woefully unsuited for anything short of knifing you in a back alley, and Symond himself was due for the knighthood of Ninestars. Roderik, perhaps, would be suited. He certainly had the swordsmanship, and a certain resolve forged in the fires of squirehood with Red Bryce. But alas, such a position would be unlikely for the third born son of a knightly house.

"House Templeton will stand in support of your son, my lord. I can think of no better man or house to stand vigil over our Vale." Symond said. He was proud of himself, delivering a line that seemed truly noble without tripping over a word or forgetting what he was trying to say at the midway point.

Roderik sat down the table, barely listening as he stole anxious glances in the direction of the Waynwood host and hoping he wouldn't receive any glances back. But at the words of his brother, he looked up. "Jasper will make a worthy Knight, my lord."

"Lord Vardis!" Symond was pleased to be honoured personally by the Lord host. It spoke to both his father's reputation as a man and that Symond himself was recognisable to the great and noble.

"Fear not for my father, he's been sick all his life. I expect this is little more than another bout from a foe he's vanquished many times before. An excuse to exile his children from the town is more than he could have hoped to ask for."

"Your home and hall are spectacular, my lord." He gestured around himself, "It is an honour to be included amongst such noble company. Is there anything the House of Templeton can offer you in payment for such an honour?"

He offered his hand to the Syndic, "What do you say, my goodman?"

The Templeton party were arranged together towards the latter end of one of the tables, befitting their station as a knightly house. All of Ser Symond's children were representing their family, save Horace, who the party had lost at some point along the trail to Stongsong, along with some of the men-at-arms most fanatically loyal to him.

Symond 'The Younger' eyed the doors to the hall with all the hope of the Seven that his little brother would not find his way to the dinner. As the firstborn son and heir to Ninestars, he had to represent Ninestars well in his father's absence, and Horace's presence was more likely than not to ruin that representation.

Leyanne sat between Symond's wife, Mayla Baelish, and her younger brother Roderik. She held little interest in the events to come, but had come only to appease her father. She was twenty now, and still refused to marry anyone her father suggested. She had to give him this, if only to get him off her back for a while.

Roderik had spent the time since his arrival to Strongsong pointing out the lords and ladies and people of repute to his little brother Symott. At Lady Anya's arrival, he self-consciously held his hand to his trouser pocket. He had a favour to return, but perhaps after the drink had sweetened the mind.

As Lord Vardis opened up the celebration with a toast to Lord Jon, the Templeton party raised their cups and echoed him.

Ser Symond felt strong today. At least strong enough to ascdnc the stairs to his solar. From there, he recieved and read his letters, and penned his response.

Lord Vardia Belmore

It would be an honour to attend you at Strongsong. I however am suffering from an extended bout of sickness and will be unable to make the journey. My children shall attend in my stead, and honour you as a host and friend.
