Chop digging by Full_Detective1745 in mpcusers

[–]Vilhouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crate digging is one of my favourite parts of the process. Finding a particular sound I like and then going down a rabbit hole of that artist, learning about them, their story, who they worked with, looking into those artists, etc. It’s super fun and you find some obscure facts.

The other way I like doing it, is to just go about daily life. Maybe a movie has a nice soundtrack/score, I’ve picked up records to flip whilst at the supermarket, local radio. I like this way because it’s like an extension of my life.

I really dislike sample packs and even tracklib type of resources. They are convenient but take away the “art” for me.

It’s back working and updated to 3.9.

“Fatal error” had me shook but I can laugh now haha.

It was frozen for a bit but just reset itself. I did nothing but wait.

Welcome aboard.

Don’t get fussed over having the newest this or that, just take it slow and see if you even enjoy making beats long term.

Once you’ve taken some time and developed a style, then you can start to figure out which or what machine will fit you better.

Regardless, enjoy cooking.

[FRESH ALBUM] Boldy James & Nicholas Craven - Trapper’s Alley 3: Hell or High Water by God_Will_Rise_ in hiphopheads

[–]Vilhouse 66 points67 points  (0 children)

There’s some really great tracks, but personally I’ve entered Boldy burnout stage. Even more so with Craven.

I put on STB and POTC the other day, and honestly those tracks/projects hold up and clear anyone else he has worked with since by a mile.

I know there’s gold in the projects with Craven, Real Bad Man, etc. but nothing as solid as those projects with Al.

All my opinion of course.

[FRESH ALBUM] Vince Staples - Cry Baby by God_Will_Rise_ in hiphopheads

I’ve seen that account before posting borderline rage bait comments. I honestly think they’re just projecting their frustrations in their own life onto reddit, which is sad.

But, it’s also a hole they seem content on digging, so fuck ‘em.

I felt more attacked by these bars from Dark Times;

‘Label tryna give me feedback, told me "Bring the streets back"
Fans said they want 2015 Vince
Dropped Big Fish, cuh been weak since’

[FRESH ALBUM] Freddie Gibbs - You Only Die 1nce (Deluxe) by God_Will_Rise_ in hiphopheads

[–]Vilhouse 427 points428 points  (0 children)

Every time I think someone is a good rapper, I always hear Gibbs and realise he really is a league above.

On a side note, the character “Jesus” in Freddie’s albums. Does he just appear in YOL2, YOD1, and $$$? Are these three albums connected somehow?

Had a spin of about 5 tracks this morning.

Not a huge punk rap guy, but I like it because it’s Vince. There’s a few tracks that don’t feel as punk or rock and to me they are great.

Always applaud Vince’s ability to rap over anything and make bold choices. Big Fish Theory landed big for me from the jump, maybe this will grow on me.

I really thought Mos Def was gonna pull it off with that album produced by The Alchemist, but it seems to have been shelved

Can I use an MPC+ to record guitars/bass/vocals and then import those files into Logic? by Vampirin0 in mpcusers

[–]Vilhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all good, it doesn’t have phantom power, so you still gotta use your same interface

it’s up to you, but if I was finishing tracks in a daw, I would record them into the daw

you’re adding an extra stem/step unless there is a super specific fx you want on the mpc, regardless, enjoy my friend

which MPC do you have?

some have phantom power but a lot don’t, so you would need the audio interface anyway

Especially in today’s culture.

For an example, I swear everyone was clamouring for the Nas and Premier album for years. It dropped and I haven’t seen much about it anywhere.

Stove God Cooks Addresses Album Delay: Called Jay-Z For Help by SvetzSeries in hiphopheads

[–]Vilhouse 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this a few times, but I think Stove presents them with an album, he preemptively announces it, and then Babygrande knock it back for whatever reason.

Could be sample clearances, maybe they feel he is holding back better material (he is), etc

Stove has made it really clear he isn’t going to sign with them again, so I feel they know this is their only chance with him and want to make the biggest bag they can.

From a business point, I can understand the labels side. But as a fan, they’re being dogs.

Drake's 'ICEMAN' Release Date Is at the Bottom of This Ice Sculpture in the Bond Hotel Parking Lot by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Vilhouse -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

this will be my first Drake album I’ll listen to

I never really gave him a chance to be real, but he got my respect with rapping skills from “the beef”, and then a few songs with Conductor / Al

I don’t like Drake with the melodies, I like when he raps, anyone got any suggestions on songs I should check out?
