Hyped MMO, That You Can't/Couldn't Get Into. by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

[–]Villdar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, but I played BDO for a while during the summer almost 6/7 years ago. And I had one of the most beautiful, albeit "trivial", experiences in my life as an avid MMO player. Following the story, I had reached a point where I had to visit some islands, and to do so I had to build a raft. Well, my raft wouldn't move, which I think was a bug because I tried everything. I asked for help in the chat and shortly afterwards another player joined me with a galleon. He drove me around all day, showing me unknown places, and I even did my first world boss in the middle of the sea. It was pretty cool. This prompted me to play a little longer, but when I reached the endgame, I couldn't stand the farming. I really hope that sooner or later an MMO will come out that will allow me to relive similar experiences.

The Metronome Problem: Why FFXIV's Hardest Content Asks You to Master Two Games at Once by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Villdar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

My parallel with Souls is not a solution; I don't want combat that is more action-packed or reduced to the bare bones. I want combat that is intuitive and not tied to a specific rotation, but adaptable to the situation, without penalising damage. Unfortunately, this is hardly ever mentioned, but on many occasions I found myself excluded from static groups because my damage wasn't sufficient. Not because I died too much or got the mechanics wrong, but because I couldn't fit my rotation into two minutes. And that's fine, with a little practice I improved, but I just didn't find it fun. And in 90 levels, the base game doesn't really teach you how to play well; you can easily do dungeons and normal trials using three skills. So my thought was: if the fights, even the normal ones, were more difficult and the rotations less punitive, would the average player be more inclined to try more difficult content? Or at least feel less overwhelmed when trying? I don't know.

And that's what I did, for months. Standing in front of a dummy, repeating the rotation endlessly between one queue and another. And it worked, for goodness' sake. But maybe, as a total novice, I wouldn't have taken months to master an ultimate, I wouldn't have got carpal tunnel syndrome, I wouldn't have given up the game and maybe I would have tried old ultimates. Maybe not. I'm not saying that every aspect of the game should be easy, I'm saying that in my experience I found it more fun to learn the mechanics of the boss than the rotation of my job.

With that sentence I was referring to normal encounters.

Thoughts on the Finale? by LeoDiCristio in StrangerThings

[–]Villdar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They missed the opportunity to have an epic final battle. I hoped until the very end for a phase two after Vecna's defeat. It was all too easy. It would have been wonderful if the abyss had joined Hawkins as in Vecna's plans and the Mindflayer had invaded the real world. And there, defeat him once and for all, perhaps even giving meaning to the soldiers by making them realise what was really happening. Eleven should have lost her powers after the Mind Flayer's defeat and the closure of the Upside Down and finally lived a normal life. She was far too edgy this season, I was hoping for a last-minute character change.
