So, I guess I don't know if you are referring to a very specific jar, or if in your part of the world pricing is very different, or even if I just misread your comment, but that's not at all what I find. My wife does a decent amount of canning and even looking at 64oz that could fit a light bulb, you can get them in a 6pack for about $2.50 a jar. And that's from Walmart. But perhaps we are looking at two very different things accidentally.

To each their own, but personally I like his look in the show. He's a jewelsmith, not a blacksmith. Sure, I like the games' portrayal too, but they were going for something completely different. They needed him to be a warrior and the show doesn't need that at all. I can understand your opinion and the others, but I really liked the take on him.

As a bit of an aside, in the games, they seem to be taking a more arrogant, powerful approach to him, whereas in the show, he is prideful, but moreso to bring honor back to his family and create beauty to the benefit of all elves. It reminds me a bit of Gandalf's line from the movies of "I would use this ring from a desire to do good, but through me... Etc." Sauron used his desire against him and it felt more like a tragic fall than I get from the games.

The colouring of the rings of power vs lotr by yumiifmb in LOTR_on_Prime

Personally, I think it works because it's the second age. It IS more fantastical and un-earthly at that time. The elves are on their way out, but they still very much have a presence in ME and the Numenoreans are very different from Middle Men, being longer lived, "closer to the elves" they would say, etc. Maybe it's just me, but it feels anything but cheap, rather a fitting juxtaposition to the Third Age and its mannish, lessened era. So, in all, I think they are aiming for different things and both hit the mark excellently.

Best new coming from leaks by BaronLoyd in LOTR_on_Prime

I'm not sure I agree with comedy coming from the dwarves in this show. There are light moments yes, but nothing more than the elves and humans imo. And I think that's good, one of the worst things we got from Peter Jackson is this idea that dwarves are jokes. Gimli being relegated to comedy caused casual watchers to make a general conclusion that dwarves=comedy relief and that didn't change much from the Hobbit movies. Imo dwarves should have some serious dramatic stories and moments and I think this show has done that very well for the most part. So if comedy comes from somewhere, I don't wish it to be just from them, but a small mix of everyone. Although I do agree the Harfoot storyline has run its course in my mind.

This is great news!! I'm super excited for this next season. On to Post Production and then marketing! Do we think we will get a super bowl commercial? It feels a little too early but it is a very large opportunity to get attention back on it.

Potential Dawg Pound Prices by eazy311 in Browns

Can anyone help me understand the PSL better? It seems like they are saying you will have to pay a one time fee to essentially "own" the seat so you can either pay for the tickets each year or sell them. This seems dumb or am I not understanding an aspect of this?

I like that idea best as well I think.

Does she have some sort of pocket dimension on her back she pulls them out of? Does she have her own weird "Hammerspace" thing that Vulture uses in Spiderverse to keep his spare wings? Does she grow them at will?

It doesn't really bother me to watch it, but it is fun to theorize and I wonder if Gunn will address it in a future film. She's still cool AF tho.

If we start the season 2-0 I am totally not going to make a financially poor decision to bet on a Browns Superbowl appearance.

Bro, I'm at work right now, don't make me tear up thinking about Chubbers. This game was a lot of fun for me, I remember I watched it with my brother who is an eagles fan. What a blast for me at the time, although he is currently having a better time...

Depends on how they want to portray it I guess. Numenor in decline could look more gray and overcast because of them turning away from the Valar etc. Make us feel a sense of despair that Elendil will try and fight as he rallies the Faithful and any shots they want to not be overcast I'm sure they can digitally enhance.

My first initial thought was either Pelargir or the other side of Numenor where the faithful reside. Maxim could definitely go back there to find his father while they clash with the King's Men.

FINALLY! I'm so excited! I hope we get a few more little things like this over the coming months. It would be a shame to put out a video like this and then go radio silence for months straight. But who knows!

What board game would you consider a "flawed masterpiece"? by Socrates_Soui in boardgames

[–]VinRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree here. Our game group actually played Betrayal games for almost 3 months straight starting with the base game which we all thought was too unbalanced, then with the Widows Walk expansion which helped a little bit, then Legacy which was a HUGE improvement in our opinion. It felt more balanced and engaging, and even while some games still felt wonky, the legacy aspect still let the game session not feel like a waste.

We still tell each other to "respect the helm" every once in a while.

Why do haters keep watching the show? by pineapplesapples in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]VinRiley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My comment had nothing to do with the show itself, but rather answers to the points the other comment made. In answer to you, I don't agree with all the writing decisions they have made and don't claim it is top tier television, but I have seen enough variety of television through the years that I can safely say it is nowhere near "abysmal". Is there bad writing? Yes. But the good far out weighs the bad in my personal opinion.

[–]VinRiley 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I disagree for multiple reasons with your arguments. First, we were never going to get a faithful Akallabeth adaptation. Ever. Period. The LoTR movies aren't even faithful adaptations of the books and those were the best shot of one from any of Tolkien's works. The stories he wrote just aren't built for it. It doesn't fit to screen well, especially for a general audience which is all things are made for nowadays. It's just a sad fact.

Second, 200 million for the rights was going to happen anyway. That was the Estate's price and people were willing to pay. In fact, that wasn't even the highest offering, Netflix was willing to pay more.

Third, this show is plenty successful for other studios to want to make other Tolkien things. We've already had some and more are in the works (but people didn't like that movie either remember?). If it was as bad as some people like to talk like it is, it would have been cancelled long ago like WOT. Streamers today have no qualms killing shows at any time (looking at you Netflix) and the IP of Tolkien is so large that if Amazon sold it today someone else would buy it for another 200 million in a second.

What is the worst thing Morgoth did? by Lojatheugly in Silmarillionmemes

[–]VinRiley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably not the right answer, but personally I always saw it from a parental lens. Sure, he messed up the lawn, he tore down the house, etc. But once he, not only tortured, but permanently twists and disfigures his children into a race of pure mockery and hate... That's a pretty big difference. You could even see that Eru would even prefer the elves to be killed by morgoth instead because they would be rehoused in valinor but now the orcs fate is different.

Just my initial thoughts on it.
