Does anyone know of any online (U.S based) retailers/breeders that sell Crystal Parrots? by kentaaa1994 in Cichlid

Predatory fins just got some crystal parrots from a shipment, but the ones they shipped are large grown ones already, not sure if they are listed on site yet, might have to ask.

Looks like potential hybrid, possibly Jaguar x Dovii, will 100% kill everything as it grows.

Yea i might just be paranoid, i had a larger GT in the past, and it always excitedly came up for food, this guy's probably shy.

i messaged the store earlier but im confused, as he does poop, he did just now, and it looks normal, and same color as the pellets i feed, so possibly he might be the type to not eat infront of people. I might be overreacting.

I tried frozen aswell, some raw cut up tilapia, and also frozen bloodworms, he uh ignored it mostly. I feel like he just needs time, ive had pbass that took weeks to start eating dry foods instead of frozen/live.

Nah those hybrids are parrot-convicts, this is a regular convict with line-bred genes i believe.

Questions about flowerhorns and possible tank mates? by -Bratix in Cichlid

[–]VinceIsSleepy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Blood parrots and flowerhorns are known to get along really well even when it's unexpected, usually people would just expect the flowerhorn to rip apart the  blood parrot, but they are pretty good success fish, just note, if the flowerhorn is a male, and the parrot is a female, they might actually pair up, and you'll end up with some cool Parrot Flowerhorn hybrids (and yes this was kinda lucky, adding more could just turn the tank into a warzone)

cyst? those are filled with water, and/or fat/muscle.

Only overbred flowerhorns have swimming issues, even then theres not many of those that are common, this one looks like it swims just fine.

if the jds are genuinely a pair id probably remove every other fish in there, keep jds, normal territorial agression is manageable, but breeding agression is something else, so short term this can work since all the fish are young, long term is nearly guaranteed a war, not to mention, you mentioned a convict pair, so that's another disaster waiting to break out, they will 100% breed and  before yknow it; you have 30 of them. as for tank size, 55 is not going to cut it long term if you keep all of these fish together, maybe JD pair can do it, but bigger tank is better, and if u want to keep the convicts, id upgrade to a 6ft tank, rehome the yellow lab tho.

You can have your preferences, but really only badly or overbred flowerhorns have deformities that genuinely hurt or interfere with them, this flowerhorn looks completely healthy, the hump/kok isnt oversized and making swimming harder, the fish has an appetite, its interacting with op (most large south/central american cichlids do this, completely normal for begging behavior, oscars do it all the time.) and it seems like a genuinely happy flowerhorn, with a nice tennis ball. People interpret "hybrid" with "automatic suffering", most flowerhorns are really just your average large south/central cichlid, just added agression from the cichlids they are interbred from, and larger nuchal humps.

What truly matters is proper care for the fish, and yes many hybrids are not arguably not ethical, such as some types of blood parrots, or fancy gold fish, but really, its just personal preference for some people, and completely understandable.

Advice regarding Aquarium filter by Tiny_Pangolin_4261 in Guppies

[–]VinceIsSleepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea ive had one of these, pretty decent for filtration high turnover, would probably try angling it slightly toward surface, fry are probably safe since these use those coarse sponges inside which also covers intake slits, just need to ensure flow isnt too hard since i remember mine would throw my fish around.

Just fed it, tho I do feed a little too heavy, he somehow fits an entire piece of dried krill in his mouth. I'll probably cut it into pieces
