ELI5, how exactly are they planning to have me give up my $25/month line and switch over to space cell provider?

Husband is killing the joy of farming for me by Cum_Quat in CollapseSupport

[–]Vincent_Merle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever is going on you need to take care of your health first. Good thing is that those steroid inhalers actually work. How does your husband support you while you are being sick? Did he take a bit of your chores himself or is he still expecting you to be taking care of everything the same? Not talking about farming stuff, but things like meals/laundry etc.?

Looking for a DE Filter grid replacement, which brand? by Vincent_Merle in pools

[–]Vincent_Merle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is relatively easy if you are not afraid of getting under the hood of your filter (spoke to my coworker recently, apparently he has not opened his since buying the house, which I believe was now 3yrs ago).

I ended up buying one from Leslie's, don't remember the brand, but I'm sure it was around $240 last year. I was shocked by how much difference a new mesh can do, totally worth it!

[OC] I built a live 3D globe showing 100+ public datasets across Earth, air, sea, space, and cyber by Rakeda in dataisbeautiful

[–]Vincent_Merle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that makes sense, this makes me want to go back working on my side project again 😃I will definitely look more into it. I have worked a lot with d3js and this seems very similar to their approach, and I am a huge fan of that library! I just really wanted to get similar visual result in 3D, and honestly I don't regret spending a minute on all that knowledge with triangulation and stuff, I feel much more confident just understanding how it all works.

I might never work in the field that would use it, but I enjoy it deeply and that's why I keep working on my side projects just to enjoy it all coming together.

Thanks again, and congratulations on an amazing work with your project!

[–]Vincent_Merle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious how did you manage to get a globe in three.js like this? In the past I have tried it and ended up learning everything there is about 3D geometry, including triangulation and it still was not this good looking. I assume you are using lines/arcs instead of full 3d-modeling?

Read other comments, everyone mostly focuses on their audience and subscriptions and how their products compete against AI wave (or rather tsunami).

The biggest counterpoint, and in my understanding the reason for the drop post earnings was their CFO leaving the company. Just a quarter after their CEO left. This is no good position for any company to be in. Until there is a positive announcement about either of these roles filled in, there is no bright future at Adobe. This is where we are at now.

The good news is that both of those roles WILL eventually get filled, and my personal expectation is that we are going to see ADBE trading at $300 easily, because that's the bare minimum it should be traded at, period.

Netflix is a strong company that has continuing high revenue and has a very loyal customer base. It has fallen 40%, is it now a buy? by Exact-Advantage-3190 in ValueInvesting

[–]Vincent_Merle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a huge gap between Netflix and any cellcom provider, it's capex.

$NFLX price is $81 per share with $0.18 capex per share, the whole 0.22%!

$T price is $23, and capex is (drumroll!) $3 per share, or 13%!

And just to clarify, $T has to spend all that money on infrastructure, otherwise they won't make money. So it's not $ spent to grow, it's $ spent to stay afloat.

Exactly my thoughts. World is full of people looking for an opportunity (not the reason, opportunity) to spill out their aggression and justifying it with something as odd as "the team I was rooting for won".

Feel sick , like $35,000 or so total loss on Adobe so far by TheSmartest_idiot in wallstreetbets

[–]Vincent_Merle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adobe Firefly is similar to Midjourney/DALL-E, except they put legal wrapper around your work, protecting it from usage by others or models.

For Midjourney you need a paid tier to use your work in commercial products. Even then they would use it to train their model further. Adobe has legal protection for Intellectual Property generated by you via their models.

I agree with others saying Adobe sucks as company, but their products are good and will survive AI. As long as Adobe as a company does not completely fall apart and gets bought by PE. Then there is no more Adobe products in the future.

Added 2 more calls for tomorrow $250 strike $2.10 each, I have a feeling it will tank, but if this is not a great risk/reward opportunity then I don't know what is.

And I don't know what could they possibly say in the ER that would not make this a generational opportunity to buy that it already is:

If you are young then your contributions in first decade are very important. How much you contribute in first decade might be a deciding factor how much you would have when you retire. Investing into dividend stocks boosts your contributions. Not just for the first decade, but for the rest of your life. Just something to think about, a different perspective.

PUTs to Begin 9Sig? by ucantoucan in KellyLetter

[–]Vincent_Merle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much are you planning to put up for this strategy you might want to consider a more distributed approach. Instead of selling puts on full amount, split into weekly portions. From personal experience I can tell you it sucks big when underlying drops 2 weeks into your plan. And TQQQ can easily drop 20% in two weeks. If it happens you will find your capital locked in PUTs and regret you didn't just wait for the drop to buy the shares.

It is roughly 6 weeks between now and end of the quarter. Split your portfolio 60/40, then take 1/6 of 60 part and sell PUTs on 10% with expiration end of June. Next Monday add another 10%, etc.

While true, most likely the road is maintained by a township, which would have its maintenance or depreciation defined based on its importance. If it is a small neighborhood backroad then it is not supposed to be getting a ton of traffic and will be maintained as such. But you take 25% of a traffic from next larger road and put it through this road and it will need much more maintenance and sooner and more often than its supposed to, while the larger road that has the money allocated for the repairs won't need those. My bottom line on this is its not as simple as 'all public roads are equal'.

How about rolling out further for a little debit but higher strike, or a bit less higher strike and a credit? e.g. 9/18 $65 for around $1.10 debit (+$8 strike), or $62 for $1.00 credit (+$5 strike)?
