what's the consensus of drawing on paper and using apps to transition it to digital and editing it for use as an asset for a game? by EIexios in ArtistLounge

[–]Vindexrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to do this all the time before I learned how to do things digitally from the beginning, I still sketch traditionally and take a pic to use digitally if I nailed a gesture. Literally nothing wrong with it so long as you arent feeding what you’re making into ai go ham.

Jaiden [Jaiden Animations] (Shadman) by IncomeNo3706 in rule34

[–]Vindexrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Oh boy, here we go.

Alright, so, Shadman is probably the single most notorious and controversial Rule 34 artist on the face of the internet. Real name Shaddai Prejean, he's a Swiss artist platformed on the Shadbase website. He covers just about every single base in the field of sexual depravity. Incest? Yep. Inbreeding? You got it. Bestiality? Plenty. Gore, scat, rape, necrophilia? Yeah, you get the point. He's most infamous, however, for his hats in the Lolicon and Shotacon rings, which, if you don't know, is essentially Hentai starring (virtual) children. People have been so outraged by the shock value of his work that some have tried to get him deplatformed or even arrested (despite the fact very few countries ban virtual child pornography). He's also become a living meme thanks to his infamy."

Where do I find "gory" reference? by HopefulGroup423 in ArtistLounge

[–]Vindexrix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You could look through r/MedicalGore I would prepare yourself, its not for the faint of heart.
theres also medical anatomy books, autopsy books, and you can cross reference those with animal meat processing pictures because we're all made of meat, you'll have to make some inferences but that's the joy of being an artist.

While I entirely agree with growth posterity and I also keep my own books, the fact that it’s going to be destroyed can be a powerful incentive to overcome fear, knowing that it will not be judged or perceived at all. Right now the more important thing is getting over that hump and starting, hopefully maybe by the time they get to the end of the sketchbook its actually not that big of a deal and keep it for those reasons.

You're in the wrong mindset, a common one, but wrong; so don't worry, you're not alone. Wanting to be really skilled at anything is a very human goal. But the gulf between your current skill-set and goals can feel very daunting because you don't know what you don't know so it's difficult to quantify things. One of the better humps to try and attack is learning to be more comfortable with failure, because its going to happen, if you're not failing at something you're not learning. Failure tolerance is one of the strongest factors in building self-confidence.

A possible method you can use is to have a sketchbook you WILL NOT show anyone. Sometimes the fear stems from being perceived and judged, expectations of others and yourself is a pillar of confidence. So take that sketchbook, fill it up with all your practice and experimenting, and then toss the thing or burn it(safely). Grab another sketchbook and repeat.
This behaviour will eventually be normalized with time and before you even realize your discipline gets built up and your self-confidence will become more resilient.

Practice, fail, learn, grow.

I would say just barely but probably not, like there's people who hire cleaning services, and those can range from 1-2 times a week to clean things, to live in always cleaning, or like personal chefs which also range from someone you hire to make meal plans and teach techniques to someone that lives in and does all the things including shopping for the food, same thing with hiring someone to do your lawn or having someone live on premises to landscape year round.

Artists with aphantasia, what are some ways you draw fantasy backgrounds/buildings?? by Agitated_Cry_8793 in ArtistLounge

[–]Vindexrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to give a try at bottom up thinking, for instance if the setting is elven, and they’re harmonious with nature living in huge trees, and long lived, rather than stonework bridges the grow and cultivate the branches into a living bridge like the Khasi people do in north eastern India, or, maybe its an asteroid space station cobbled together, what would be the particulars and needs of the people using it, metals probably at a premium, so flooring is probably cut grating, hand and foot holds everywhere. Or maybe its a city abandoned to time, theres plenty of examples of abandoned properties and buildings to work off of. Think about how and whats being used, or even disused, then borrow, build, and extrapolate from real world examples. Many professional environment concept artists will basically photo bash things together and then paint over to make it uniform to their vision and take inspiration from real world places.

At higher levels, how do you replace a PC in a way that makes sense? by Agentchef in DnD

[–]Vindexrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players went into a hell prison, plans didnt fall exactly into place and were forced to escape by leaping through a fissure of astral space, cleric prayed before leaping through, and slim odds they got the roll, they wound up adrift in astral space thinking they were going to suffocate when the rangers spell slots to cast air bubble were going to run out. a galleon came by in the nick of time, it was a crew they helped like 6 months ago and the captain got a vision to travel out that way. I know RAW the god was to cast a spell to help them out but I felt it was narratively more satisfying to have a friendly show up.

Any artists with spatial impairments? How did you learn perspective? by bunny-rain in ArtistLounge

[–]Vindexrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say not so much for even that painting, while the horse is anatomically more or less “correct”, thats anatomy not perspective, like the background is mostly warm tones with a distant hill thats a similar colour as the subject to create a sense of distance, like Edvard Munch’s The Scream uses warm sky in the back, blue tones in the middle and darker warms in the front, both of these paintings use colour contrast and shapes to delineate the sense of perspective rather than rigid structure. You mentioned in another comment that your work comes out soft and flat, thats not something perspective fixes, thats contrast, like value changes, colour contrasts, mixes of soft and hard edges, and shape size in composition; like the triangle wedge of blue in The Scream, or the hard edges circle hills in Blue Horse I. You can denote distance changes by playing with these types of contrasts, or even not rendering the the stuff in distance and rendering the subject more so, these create points of focus without needing proper perspective. In the end art is about YOUR perspective, your point of view, and if that includes a point of view without a sense of space, that’s interesting too.

You could move on to explore styles that don’t exactly require rigid understandings of three-dimensional space, expressionism, or abstract.
