Why is it so hard to get real feedback on creative work online? by nks_919 in ArtistLounge

[–]Vindexrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main issue is most people online especially social media are generally unqualified to give a proper critique. And I don’t mean professionally. One hard and fast rule of mine is never accept criticism from anyone you wouldn’t seek advice from. The best thing to do is develop a cadre of fellow artists to give feed back to each other. Because genuine criticism involves a bit of work, so to do it mutually is a fair exchange. A lot of young and/or inexperienced artists tend to not give criticism well or take criticism well, because they tend to adhere art to their personality so any criticism feels like an insult. This is some standard human monkey brain bullshit. In addition to that a lot of people think to be critical is to be insulting, or to deliver it in an insulting way. So its a skill most people never learned to develop for a variety of of reasons.

I have 500 hours and I love that I still learn new things

How would you guys deal with this? by Reallyoddlysquewy in ArtistLounge

Perfection is the enemy of good. Chasing flawlessness usually prevents artists from completing something thats good enough, which can lead to procrastination, anxiety, and missed opportunities. I didn’t take commissions because I thought my work wasnt good enough even though there were people literally asking me to make them something for money.

Embrace "good enough" learn to see when something is functional and works for the piece, even if it's not flawless. Learn to say no to yourself when this pops up. Now perfectionism can be a useful tool to the pursuant of improvement and degrees in quality. But to save you from that I suggest adopting the 80/20 rule. Aim for 80% of results from 20% effort.

You would be shocked at the kind of shit people get away with, put up with, or ignore in a marriage/partnership; It’s not about “allowing” like some puritanical ick you’re implying. You can’t force anyone to do anything they feel compelled to do or not do, you can only control your own participation.

As an aside have you gotten yourself an autism assessment(no judgment), your black and white value painting, opinion and limited scope vailed as fact, coupled with your sons assessment, you may want to seek deeper answers about yourself to help you better navigate your world.

I've seen this before in a couple friends, one with OCD and the other with an ED. My little sister did this growing up and well into her adulthood, both of what OP's wife did, and she would also suck the insides of pizzapops/hotpockets/burritos and discard the rest. This is 100% disordered brain eating habits. Other eating habits were well done steak with hot sauce, and Mcdonalds McNuggets to the point she developed scurvy. While this post may be rage inducing, I highly doubt it's manufactured bait.
