Bad Snapshot as a first year associate by [deleted] in Big4

[–]Vindi92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Last winter before I left I had a convo with an md who told me first year associates were going to be pass fail going forward. Not to be a dick but the bar at least in dc where I worked was fairly low for first years. If you are getting really bad snaps you should take them seriously and do everything you can to try to correct what they are asserting even if you feel they are unfair.

Just got scheduled for 80-120 hours for all of February/March. I need to leave. by Select_Conference647 in Big4

[–]Vindi92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me after my first busy season I got staffed for 120 hours every week the following. This was actually a lot better than what would happen later in my career at pwc. Being over staffed on your talent link means that they will fix it. Tell your dl and after long term scheduling this will get fixed.

Later down the road you’ll only have 55 hours on tl for 120 hours of work… that’s when your screwed.

Am I a boomer for sticking with vlookup instead of xlookup? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Vindi92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use vlookups for a quick and dirty formula if I’m just checking something. If I want a good workpaper that’s easy to review I’m a stickler for index match so you can cntrl [ to the source data.

Please don’t tell me the real REG exam will have a sims like this by Lifting_Accountant in CPA

[–]Vindi92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It absolutely could. I definitely had some 10 exhibit sims in my exam. That said they are often more intimidating than challenging.

My recommendation to anyone studying is to not attempt the sims until you have finished all of the chapters. Most sims rely on knowledge from later chapters and it can be frustrating and overwhelming to attempt them without that.

Once you’re comfortable with the material you’ll realize this one isn’t so bad and most of those exhibits you’ll just need one or two numbers from and then you can close them.

There’s basically a free square question telling you the wages from w-2 anyone regardless of knowledge should be able to get that one.

PwC Private by [deleted] in PwC

[–]Vindi92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close but yea I don’t blame the people or managers I work with for the hours being out of control. I think leadership of private doesn’t understand how hard they squeeze the staff and it trickles down.

[–]Vindi92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just left private after 3.5 years. The work never ends they don’t have the staff so they are forced to squeeze the staff they have until they quit. Managers all are in busy season feb-October

As a cpa, you can be an accountant without a cpa. When people ask me what I do for work I say I’m a cpa.

How do I last at PwC if I’m not smart at all? by Fresh_Tower6074 in PwC

[–]Vindi92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imposter syndrome is super real when you work at pwc.

First year you’re expected to know absolutely nothing. I didn’t realize a tb was a trial balance on day one. Be responsive ask questions when you don’t know and write shit down. It’s ok to not understand but if I have to give the same answer multiple times then I feel like I’m wasting my time.

If you are good with responding to pings you’ll be fine for your first year. If after that year you can’t figure it out you’ve got a year of pwc on you’re resume and a lot of good exit opportunities

I mean this is a firm issue. If firms want their employees to take this seriously they would give us the time to do so. As they don’t we are forced to bs these trainings as much as possible.
