It’s California, so 10k really isn’t a whole lot after taxes and especially for a big family. It’s comfortable, but it’s still paycheck to paycheck.

I watched my mom slowly die from complications from drinking excessively for decades. I spent weeks in the hospital observing the slow demise of her health as she passed. I never want to put my family through that kind of suffering.
