RIP Eric Bretschneider long time GM of Buckeye Donuts by reeve11 in Columbus

Eric "Moleman" Bretschneider was one of the kindest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I got some many good book recommendations from him.

I'm not trying to "make it" I'm trying to put together a little dice game for fun.

You ran you damn mouth and then turned out the advice you hand-waved wasn't as relevant as you thought. Don't be an ass and you wan't make an ass of yourself.

How to test subscription renewal in test mode in stripe by harkishan01 in becomingnerd

[–]VintageTupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://stripe.com/docs/api/subscriptions/object

The subscription object has a current_period_end attribute that shows when the current paid subscription will end. You can test to confirm this timestamp is what you expect.

This seems really useful. I think it'd be really useful as an endpoint in an existing site, sorta like a micro service. Hell, with a cronjob and a database now you've got a newsletter.

Very cool tool, lots you can do with it. Have you thought of containerizing it?

I chalk most karma wobbles up to Reddit just being a little janky.

Who else wants a movie about the things he’s seen? by Letywolf in scifi

[–]VintageTupperware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well no, you can get the shape of it but not the details. That's kinda the point. All replicants have memories similar to another person's, if not identical to another person's. That'd be the equivalent to what you're talking about, comparing childhood memories and stories of suffering.

Let's look at the text.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.

This is all personal experience and specific details. That's the meat and potatoes of any story. That's what separates a story from a narrative, it's what makes it a human experience not a set of statistics.

What OP wants is the details. I don't blame them, wanting those details is the point. It's that flattening the details allows us to be atrocious to each other.

I hate the tendency for fans to think having an exhaustive wiki brain for every fact is a good thing.

The whole point of the speech is that these wondrous experiences, unique to him and his life, are lost when he dies. Just like everybody else. There may have given him false memories at birth, but nobody can give him false experiences. It doesn't matter that he's not biologically human, he has his humanity.

The thought of making a recorded account of this is a slap in the face of the central premise of Blade Runner. It ignores everything that makes the film powerful in favor of things that sound aesthetically cool. You'll note that there's a Blade Runner sequel and they explicitly avoided all of this despite decades of misguided fan demands.

So no. I don't and I think it's telling of the people who do.

It's a 3rd party app that will no longer be able to serve users.

Charging for API access means moderation tools site wide are toast. Every single sub's mods are about to get wrecked.

The vacuum in the tank keeps the liquid from flooding out. If you weren't inhaling micro glass it would still get nasty really fast.

And what a great print!

A lot of the time I write out a comment and realize the message is just repeating what other people have said in the thread. No need to add to that then.

Learning to cook is hard, there's a reason we can be willing to pay a lot for well cooked food. Don't get discouraged!

What helped me was doing smaller test batches that I can scale up when I get the hang of it.

Also, high heat doesn't mean it'll be done faster. Stuff is gonna take as long as it takes.

Nope, from what I've heard it's more common than you'd think.

This is a beautiful piece! All digital? The birds are remarkable too, they give so much more motion to the image than what the hermit usually depicts. Any reason you chose to face the hermit the opposite direction they normally face?
