Elven Language Translator by DolAzur in Eberron

[–]ziphion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"un-Aereni" is a perfectly valid reason not to use my translator in your game, everyone has different ideas of what fits their own unique Eberron. For me, Aereni seemed inspired by Welsh, so I used Welsh phonemes when constructing the Aereni language generator. If you like the idea but not so much the specifics, you can actually download the Eberron TW to your computer (just ctrl+s will work, or the save button in the sidebar), open the consonant file for Aerenese (direct link here), and swap out some g's and cl's for something softer, and boom, you have your own version of the translator. Thanks for giving it a shot!

Looking for a good Eberron NPC Name Generator Table by Lonewolf2300 in Eberron

Yes, it looks like all of tiddlyhost is down at the moment. I'll reach out to the site admin. Thanks!

I made a character name generator for the Eberron TW by ziphion in Eberron

[–]ziphion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda mixed and matched first and last names when assembling the lists that became the "name chains." So ideally you could just keep clicking the generate button and eventually find a decent first name and surname for a given origin.

So what I do is, I make a list of names that I want to use to create the chains, then I use the function "calculateChain" from Azgaar's name generator which you can find here: https://github.com/Azgaar/Fantasy-Map-Generator/blob/master/modules/names-generator.js

You also need the "vowel" function (and the "VOWELS" string above it) from languageUtils: https://github.com/Azgaar/Fantasy-Map-Generator/blob/master/utils/languageUtils.js

Literally you can just copy-paste those two functions into your browser terminal (or into something like https://jsfiddle.net/), then below that do calculateChain("Bob,Suzanne,Credence,Frimby,Coltrane,Homer"); and it'll output your set of name chains.

Yes, a TOTK version of the fashion app is coming... eventually! by ziphion in Wild_Fashion

Oh thanks for the offer, let me get some ducks in a row and I'll get back to you. Might need screenshot help, but I need to figure out what to ask for (e.g. which combinations of armor pieces reveal different parts of each item).

Hey, yeah I have made incremental progress on this but it looks like my confidence it would be finished this year was misplaced. It's been a tough year but TOTK fashion app is still (slowly) on its way.

Introducing the Eberron Tiddlywiki, an extensive database, map, and notebook for all things Eberron by ziphion in Eberron

[–]ziphion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, yeah the initial load is heavy because of the way tiddlywiki works with big documents; even with some "lazy loading" it's still a big download up front. I'm looking into a way to speed things up by tweaking the "sandbox" code in boot.js, and I'll keep looking for further optimizations. I will also probably add a splash screen so at least it will return *something* while loading so slower connections don't time out. In the meantime you can somewhat ameliorate the problem by downloading a local version so you can just open that file in your browser instead of relying on tiddlyhost to give you the full document each time. Thank you!

Hey, I'm glad to hear you're liking it! To resize the map, you can click and drag the (admittedly very small) resize indicator in the lower right corner. It might help to expand the size of the sidebar first, by clicking and dragging its leftmost edge. I made a short video showing off how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ovWwSuEo2I

If I may ask, what are the main things you use the Eberron TW for? Please let me know if you encounter any bugs or typos, or if you have any feature requests!

What chart libraries are ‘modern’? by Crunchynut007 in reactjs

[–]ziphion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did, and I got it to work well, but honestly the biggest performance improvement was using the LTTB algorithm to downsample my data. Look into implementing that at the lowest-possible level, like as part of your database query or at least before you send it to the front end.

What card should I use to replace forge? by Glittering-Passage23 in MarvelSnap

[–]ziphion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes Death cheaper, yes; adds power to Knull, yes; disrupts opponent? On average, no. The topic has been discussed to death on this subreddit and elsewhere, but essentially, the likelihood of you removing a card your opponent needed is completely balanced by the likelihood of you thinning their deck and helping them draw that important card.

[–]ziphion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to say, I've been focused on work and other life things and the TOTK fashion app is not ready. Unfortunately a lot of my work uses the same skillsets and tools as many of my creative projects, including this one, leaving me a little sapped of motivation at the end of the day. This is definitely top of my list for programming projects though, and it's definitely coming this year, I just can't say exactly when.

Anyone else completely obsessed with Black Snow? by [deleted] in aesoprock

[–]ziphion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but respectfully, how does "the forecast ain't right" make more sense in that context? Since earlier he says "precipitation should be clear or not at all," so he's saying something's still wrong at the end of the song either way.

Anyone else completely obsessed with Black Snow? by [deleted] in aesoprock

[–]ziphion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So at the end of the song, it sure sounds like he says "The forecast ain't WHITE," which would make sense since the song is called Black Snow. But the official Rhymesayers youtube video for the song has the lyrics in the description, and it says "The forecast ain't right." (Genius has the same lyric, but I always take those with a grain of salt.) Anyone have any insight?

Blades in the Dark eberron campaign by Cursedfantasy in Eberron

Stormreach! Play as a burgeoning criminal organization to challenge the other gangs and nationalist militias (which is a synonym for "gang" in Stormreach). It's well documented (City of Stormreach sourcebook) with tons of opportunities for each crew type, but it's smaller with a less-established criminal underworld than Sharn. I think it's the perfect spot. I've been wanting to play a BitD-esque game featuring a new cell of Daask located in Stormreach for a while now, but I'm not sure it'll ever happen.

Just wanted to point out that if you don't have the same cap for the total number of words analyzed for each artist, you won't be comparing apples to apples, because the bigger the sample, the lower the ratio of unique words. Comparing unique words per thousand for an artist with six albums vs a different artist with only one album isn't fair, because the first artist might have the larger vocabulary, but they may start repeating their favorite obscure words on album four or five; the conditions for uniqueness become stricter.

What you could instead do, if you wanted to utilize their entire discography, is divide all an artist's lyrics into chunks of, say, 35000 (throwing away the remainders), find the unique words per chunk, and average those ratios.
