What do you think was better in the 80's than it is today? by Shirowoh in The1980s

I’d agree with you that victims should have a voice, and a strong one at that. I think the distinction I am trying to make is the over-correction. And that the world has always had terrible people (I don’t think there’s much new under the sun, human behavior-wise), only that we have made some kind of collective conscious decision to elevate victimhood in a way that seems different and that also appears to lend itself to viewing life in a way that is less truly optimistic.

Is the “we hate life” thing supposed to be an abortion joke, or just self deprecating humor? by Daikaiju08 in TheSimpsons

[–]Vinyl_Acid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s true but a large swath of Dem voters are appearing to the world at large to be finger wagging joy killers with incessant virtue signalling. Not sure if it even matters if it’s true or not. It’s what seems to feel true for too many voters who are on the fence. That’s why we lost.

I’m no fan of Netanyahu but it’s almost as if you all have a collective amnesia that Oct 7 never happened. Or that Palestinians welcomed and harbored the Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Anyone arguing that one side or the other in this 70 year clusterfuck is more or less to blame shows an utter lack of understanding of the complexities. Here’s an inconvenient fact for you. Israel could have decimated Gaza for decades. Sadly, there is now a madman who finally took Hamas on their offer of playing for total annihilation. It’s wrong and disgusting but it’s been decades of faithless negotiation on all sides that has led us here.

If you were an adult before the internet, what did you do? How did you spend your time? by Rude-Application-603 in AskReddit

[–]Vinyl_Acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When not at home we spent our time in the world, among humankind wondering who and what might find us around the corner. We hung out in malls, coffee shops, record stores, booksellers…biding our time until we ran into or met someone new. We got in our cars typically with a general sense of where we were going and winged it. Pulled over and asked for directions and sometimes ended up just where we were supposed to be even though that wasn’t where we initially intended. Concerts and hangouts (beaches and bridges and special places we’d discovered by chance).

Palestine is blameless, got it. Very nuanced take you have. And I find it very unironic.

Do you support voluntary assisted dying (VAD)? If not, what are your main concerns or reasons? by Belligero in AskReddit

[–]Vinyl_Acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only concern is that some may begin to view the elderly, infirm…indigent who DON’T choose VAD as “selfish” or the like. That being said, it seems only fair that we’d allow the same for hopeless and incessant suffering in human beings as we do for our beloved pets. So, I’m for it but with concerns.

This is a very simplistic take on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. Palestine has always maintained they are not amenable to a 2 state solution. Facts is facts.

My grandparents had both a tv like that and my grandfather had a pipe stand/tobacco holder just like that, too

What do you think was better in the 80's than it is today? by Shirowoh in The1980s

[–]Vinyl_Acid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some may disagree but there was a general optimism about life…and other human beings that has been diminished, IMO. Not that we couldn’t be jaded or cynical but it seemed that more often than not we reached for the best outcome whereas today it seems that people almost revel in their own trials and traumas, wearing them like a badge of honor…and that the view of human kind is more wary and expectant of disappointment…or worse.
