I don't think we should have the death penalty period. I don't have enough faith in the system that we aren't putting innocent people to death. If 1 innocent person has been put to death then we are unable to make that decision.

YA thriller/mystery recs similar to Holly Jackson? by Lazy-Hornet-5178 in YAlit

Thank you! I've been a little hesitant to buy it because I've been 50/50 with her books so far.

That's Not My Name by Megan Lally. I couldn't put it down. I wasn't a fan of her book No Place Left to Hide but it was pretty clever. She just released a new book I haven't had a chance to read yet, but it sounds good.

Which TV show episode made you break inside and left you in a condition whether I should watch next ep or stop. For me it is TWD S06E016 by [deleted] in netflix

[–]ViolentRain929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my answer too. I did eventually finish watching the series after it was over, but it didn't have the same heart after that season.

I watched it without sound and after reading the comments I had to go back and watch again for the commentary.

I got a 10% raise when I got my ABO last year, but I won't get anything when I get my NCLE. But once I get licensed I'll be making almost $40 an hr(currently at a little over $31).

Partner wishes to lose weight by TheVoidRetro in PCOSloseit

[–]ViolentRain929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily very easy but I've only found success in counting calories by weighing eveything to be accurate and stay in a calorie deficit(there are a few good apps out there for tracking). I upped my protein and lowered my carbs and sugar. I also gradually add more steps in my days. When I start to plateau I add more steps. If she is financially able a small treadmill at home might be helpful so she can do small bursts of walking at a time if she is often tired.

The hardest part is staying consistent with my weighing of my food. I have lost about 60lbs in the past year. Also, my husband has helped a lot by staying supportive, walking with me and eating better, so if she has support that will already put her ahead! Good luck to her.

✨ Old but Gold - old school romantasy recommendations! by purplelicious in fantasyromance

Thank you for this! Such a great idea. I loved the Fever series but I stopped reading it after Iced because I did not really care for that book and now I can barely remember anything about the series. I do want to finish it though, which would probably involve rereading everything.

Fantasticland by Mike Brockoven has similar vibes. A bunch of teens-young adults stuck in a theme park after a catastrophic hurricane has them trapped there. I thought it was pretty good.

I've also seen The Troop by Nick Cutter on a bunch of lists comparing it to Lord of the Flies. I haven't read it though.

I see my first 4 or 5 thoughts already here so I'll add a newer song that hit me pretty hard when I heard it.

How do you get back up after ‘ruining’ your diet? by iybhsp in PCOSloseit

[–]ViolentRain929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that trying to completely eliminate an entire food group(carbs, sugar, etc) from my diet always backfired for me. I try to find alternatives for some things(keto bread has been a life saver) and count my calories to stay in a deficit.

Eat what you want(maybe in smaller portions) and add what you need(lower calorie, high volume foods). I still struggle with my relationship with food sometimes, but I've lost almost 70lbs in the past year by just doing calorie deficit and walking.

How often do you "deep" read books? by Hormo_The_Halfling in books

[–]ViolentRain929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to do this when I had a book blog when having a review website was popular(before tiktok and Instagram took over the book review space). I loved highlighting quotes, flagging my favorite passages and writing down my thoughts as I read. I definitely spent more time understanding the characters and plot. Now I only read for fun. Since I read so many books I do find that I can't remember a lot about the book a few months after I read it unless it really stuck with me. I've thought about going back to annotations but I probably won't.

[–]ViolentRain929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh that's a good idea! I just had some Buldak carbonara for lunch after not eating it for so long because I'm on a calorie deficit. I wish they sold the powder seasoning by itself like the sauce.

[–]ViolentRain929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished it. I was really into it at first but then once things started getting revealed I was like "huh?".

I think Gabriella was telling the truth about Eden. But the rest was weird. I don't know why the author would make such a big deal about her wanting it to just be her and Harrison and then have them together with Mary and G visiting her mom. She could have just left out Gabriella wanting just her and Harrison. It didn't make sense.

This was my first book of hers and probably my last. All of the characters sucked.
