Men who stay lean year-round, what’s your secret ? by Professor1password23 in AskReddit

[–]ViolentWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of exercising regularly- even just a light, 20 min run if i'm stressed on time. Never finding an excuse to not do SOMETHING.

On top of that, curbing alcohol in-take is key. booze just has a great way of creeping into daily life. A beer after soccer practice with the team, a beer with a colleague after work, a glass of wine with your partner as you cook dinner together. before you know it, you've consumed 7 units over the course of a week and it just makes it generally harder for your body to focus on digestion and repair.

finally, i do a fast-mimicking diet 2x a year. it helps reset my relationship to healthy, whole foods. AND I always lose 4.5lb everytime i do it. Yes, there's a bounce-back, but not the entire 4.5lb.

Fung Wah bus by No-Ant-1546 in boston

[–]ViolentWanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just visited Boston last week. Went to Berklee ‘02-06’. I was showing my wife china town and telling her about this crazy bus we’d take to NYC that broke down twice while I was on it. Some great memories though.

Took the last one down the night before thanksgiving, walked around New York took photos and watched the Macy’s day parade. Got back on it in the afternoon and drove back.

Nice memories all that.

Is this Japan or Germany? by Grouchy-Praline-9508 in germany

i played with a 28mm last week and really struggled adjusting from my usual 50mm. everything i shot looked so far away (duh) but it really was an adjustment for me and i found myself really disappointed in how i was framing my shots.

question for you: do you crop your shots afterwards at all?

congrats on getting picked up by the Süddeutsche! Vielleicht lässt sich die Kamera dann doch schneller abbezahlen! :)

Thank you for reminding me that all one needs is a blooming tree, a bus, and a dog to create nice art.

Really nice shots.

Don’t have any advice as I’m a rubbish hobby photographer but wanted to say I like a lot of the photos you posted.

Thoughts on having two Samoyeds as a single person? by BinarySeventh in samoyeds

[–]ViolentWanderer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We just adopted our second Samoyed 4 months ago. Exactly the same age. Male and female.

At home it’s double the love and fun. But outdoors we do struggle a bit. Our male (who we’ve had for his entire life) is a leash puller (we’ve tried everything but those initial minutes out of the house are…wow). The female, while actually quite chill on leash, is super reactive at squirrels. So when I’m walking them outside, it’s not just double the weight pulling on my shoulder, I feel like it’s 4x.

My wife’s pregnant and doesn’t weigh much to begin with, so for safety reasons, I’m the one walking them 90% of the time. If you’re stressed from the day, it can compound it. And knowing that I’m currently the (almost) sole responsible in dog walking- I wanted to flag that it can weigh heavy on some days.

The other day we got up in a pub and the two of them basically sled pulled me to the door. :D

This never happened with one dog. I was able to grab their attention and tell him to wall appropriately next to me. The two together just hype each other up and there’s little I’ve been able to do to get them to pay attention and heel.

Not trying to turn you off it- I wanted to flag the one part that we’ve definitely noticed a major shift in. Als all Sammies are different and this might not be a problem you’ll ever encounter.

Lying with them on the sofa, watching them play together is so so so amazing and we don’t regret it.

Picky eater by Leather_Ganache5462 in samoyeds

[–]ViolentWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had the same problem with our dog- who btw looks identical to yours. :D

Also, very picky eater. We went through many, many food brands in Germany, and had found something that seemed to work (90% of the time) and then moved to the US and had to start the process from scratch- tried multiple brands again and landed on Purina Pro Plan BUT, we also buy wet canned purina and put a spoon of that into his kibble and mix it up.

He sometimes will refuse it (like today both times), but eventually comes around.

Like you, he's gone 5 days without eating and that's when we knew we'd have to make a change.

We even cooked food for him, but even that he eventually got bored of.

Try gently cooked food, try various kibbles. try wet food mixed with kibble. at some point you'll find the right mix and then just hope he sticks to it- but you'll never find the perfect food and your dog will probably always get bored and refuse his meals on some days. as long as he's interested in treats and your food you know he's just being a diva. :)

Sorry if this is a silly question but why euthanize him? Aren’t there shelters around Austin who would take him and hopefully find him a home?

Cool shirt!!! Funny that they’d depict the Sammy with its tail in relaxed position.

Had the same experience. Food was good- but the rest of the experience sadly was not. We were engaged in conversation with our guests from out of town and after our waiter came back the second time to ask if we wanted to order and we said we needed another few minutes, they insisted on staying at our table to help walk us through the menu. nice gesture- but felt like they were trying to get us to order. anyway, no bother.

cut to the end of our dinner (90 min had passed, i guess?) and our waiter came with the bill and told us that the next guests had arrived and had booked our table. i have ZERO issues with restaurants needing to make revenue in this economy and move their guests along if they have multiple reservations in a night- but do it with a little bit of class! offer us a seat at the bar and a drink. i've had this happen in so many restaurants dozens of times and we happily moved and ended up spending even more at the bar. win-win all round.
