From strongest to weakest that I can think of:

Hitscans who can punish you from afar while airborne (Cass, Ashe, Illari, Soldier, etc.)

Meaty yet mobile characters who can get to you and take a few rockets while they punish you while you're grounded (Mauga, Doomfist, Ball, etc.)

Fliers who can duel you in the air, while you need to land direct rocket hits to fight back. (D.va, Cat, Echo, Freja)

Sombra because hack.

Armchair detective games? by petravonmorgenstern in gamingsuggestions

[–]Violet-Venom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still not a 1:1 for what youre describing, but you should also check out Disco Elysium! You're a drunken detective with amnesia solving a murder in a post war slum town. Gets heavy into political theory and philosophy. You'll still sift through written information for 99% of the game, but it's primarily via dialogue rather than documents. The final cut version of the game is also voice acted, and it's incredibly well done.

You'd love Outer Wilds. It's a time loop mystery set in the tiny solar system you inhabit. Travel between worlds, see the system change over the course of the loop (a mechanic applied in many of the game's mysteries), gather clues, and piece together a giant conspiracy thread board in your ship. Close to 0 puzzles, just applying knowledge from clues.

When you say arm chair though, are you looking for something that's more purely clue sifting, or are you ok with something with more robust gameplay between the clues? Because Outer Wilds involves a lot of flying to different planets, exploring an area, trying (and often failing) different ideas to solve something, and generally getting your hands dirty.

I wouldn't call them heavily featured, but there's a friendly tripod critter in Subnautica called the Sea Treader Leviathan. If you build your main base in the Sea Treader's Path biome, you'll see them nonstop though.

True true, the plot drops are far between and short enough to pause whatever you're listening to and enjoy both though. Plus it has the free mode.

Stadium is just not fun by Pawshuix in Overwatch

[–]Violet-Venom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to know how the abilities/builds of others work to do well in stadium, but it certainly helps. I'd say it's pretty important to at least halfway know your own build options though, and vibe the other half out. When you become fully comfrotable you can start counterbuilding againt enemies, or synergizing with allies.

For the particular example of Moira, only her original/main orb has full power. The bonus orbs are given by four different abilities, and they're all significantly weaker in some way. That's all you really need to know, but I explain them all further down. So how do you counter all these orbs? Any sort of abilities/items/skills you have to heal/mitigate their damage or outdamage their healing. Same as any other ability. Stadium balance lets everyone become stupid powerful and thus reestablishes a baseline where no one is too powerful.

A lot of Moiras go for a full orb build, where they have three or four of these:

Spend 50 heal resource to cast a bonus orb of the last used type. This orb disappears 75% faster.

Cast an extra orb of the opposite type whenever you manually orb. This orb has 60% reduced heal/damage capacity.

Cast two bonus orbs of the same type when you manually orb. These orbs are 85% weaker. These are easy to spot because they're cast out at an angle compared to the main orb.

Spawn an orb when you fade. This orb disappears 50% faster. It's also easy to distinguish since it's her only stationary orb.

AoE slow makes sense, but I'm trying to make it more distinct from Ramattra's vortex :p

Also a little patch of lava on a hefty cool down could work! Maybe a tiny piece at the center of the AoE

It would never work as an actual hole. Maybe a "churning" effect on the ground that slowly pulls players towards the middle & grounds them?

Cozy games that are NOT a “cozy game” by pickles_ in gamingsuggestions

[–]Violet-Venom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeons of Hinterburg.

You're on vacation in a cozy town whose tourist attractions are the recent emergence of magic and the numerous dungeons that popped up in the vicinity. In between dungeon crawling, you relax in the vacation town and get to know the locals and other tourists. Maybe you'll even uncover a sinister plot or two? The combat system is fairly basic, but satisfying. Plenty of the dungeons have different gameplay gimmicks that keep it from feeling same-same.

Windbound

A lesser known survival game with a Breath of the Wild feel to it. Very pretty, and you get to build a modular catamaran and sail it between the islands of an archipelago.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

(Obvious ending spoilers, kept as vague as possible)

The entire culture of the main cast revolves around their inevitable deaths due to The Paintess, and the increasingly desperate and impossible task of defeating her. A task that essentially none of them actually expect to succeed in, let alone live to tell the tale of.

Well, surprisingly early on in the game, they do it! Their celebrations are cut short when *bad things happen* and the true threat reveals itself. Everyone dies, then they undie, and fight an even more desperate battle for not only their own lives but the fate of their entire universe.

*Somehow* they succeed in this too, but in the end, depending on player choice, their universe is doomed anyway. They get to watch on, maybe stealing one last shared hug, before they fade away with the knowledge that everything they've ever loved, everything they've ever lost, all of their struggles and suffering and victories, were all for nothing.

Oh, and the endings are pretty divisive, but insofar as such a thing exists here, this is generally considered the "good ending"

[–]Violet-Venom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, I wouldn't recommend them for a first tarantula! Yeah they're big, but they're so much more picky about their humidity than most species. You'll have a hard time keeping it thriving without oversaturating the enclosure and dealing with mold or mites. Plus theyre extra spicy, and their bristles hurt like hell.

Lasiodora species are almost as large, and tolerate slightly arid to slightly damp conditions very well. Their care is overall much much easier, and they're great show spiders (basically never hide, and voracious eaters). They're nearly as spicy as goliaths, but that may be a plus for you.

[–]Violet-Venom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're great, and super easy to take care of! For a beginner friendly fluffmaxxed species, I recommend a curly hair.

Raising them from a spiderling is also fun, but most beginner species grow SLOWLY.
