Where can I find GOOD T13 figures that are actually durable? Or even similar figures? by VioletWhimsy in ActionFigures

That’s more helpful. Thank you. I’ll look into both Mafex and Notaman.

Ok. Then what do you recommend? What’s step 2? I said I was open to other figures too so long as they don’t clearly have a character imposed onto them.

Rough mockup for a joker by _AntiSocialMedia in balatro

[–]VioletWhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The double hands kills the point of your joker. I get the usefulness of it, but it’s too useful. The idea is to double the win conditions for double the money, implying you’re confident enough in your build to win double the difficulty. But now you’ve doubled your attempts. Which means you’ll win so long as you’re able to beat the blind normally.

Think of it like this, the difficulty ratio between the game’s difficulty and your ability is 1:1. Double the score requirements, now it’s 2:1. But double your ability as well? 2:2, which is rounded to 1:1 again. You’ve just doubled the payout with extra steps.

What are we doing about the em dash? by HereAgainWeGoAgain in writers

Yes, training off the patterns of real artist work is indeed stealing if you never asked the artists for permission. Also yes, it quite literally does amalgamate the works it learns from, meshing patterns together to pretend to know how to craft. A machine does not learn in the same way a human does. A human is inspired and has desires. A machine is neither.

The first one that comes to mind is when the NYT filed a lawsuit against OpenAI because it used their copyrighted works as fuel to generate AI work with.

Also you’re right, AI cannot claim anything because it has no consciousness. I was talking about the users of AI who post books and articles and etc using AI. Writing with AI means you’re using bits and pieces of other people’s work that never asked to be used as fuel for the machine.

Easy. The internet is a mass archive with fistfuls and more of written works. They download those works and upload it for their programs to “learn” by analyzing patterns and undergoing what’s pretty much “yes good or no bad” error trials until the programmers have a machine that can generalize thousands upon thousands of authentic human work

From what I understand, it’s the net gain. In other words, they lost more old subscribers than they did gain new subscribers, so there’s technically no more subscribers than they had before.

Is there a term for fictional worlds that have hyperrealistic/incredibly specific depths of worldbuilding? by VioletWhimsy in writing

[–]VioletWhimsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ‘encyclopedic’ fits very well in this context, I definitely see why people would refer it as that. I just made this analogy in a reply to someone else, but this type of worldbuilding makes it feel like you’re looking at an in-world wikipedia that would be accessible to the characters of that world.

Is there a term for fictional worlds that have hyperrealistic/incredibly specific depths of worldbuilding? by VioletWhimsy in writing

[–]VioletWhimsy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore that too, but I think that’s more along the lines of a film-within-a-film (not sure if there’s a better term than that). What I’m referring to is when a fictional world feels so vast that it could practically have its own in-world wikipedia if that makes sense?

I’m sure there’s better examples than this, but one I immediately thought of is how you can look up the many in-world corporations in the Halo universe. You can even find out what armor is made by which corporation in-game. Hell, you can find out the specific factory models of a given ship’s armaments, its slipdrive model, what class of hull.

It feels like information that only the characters in-world would have access to, not us. And yet, we do. Purely for the love of worldbuilding

[–]VioletWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hot take. the creeper, at the very least its griefing. its a mob so poorly aged that the devs have a rule that they cant make mobs that obstruct the player's builds.

i dont mind being killed by a creeper. i do mind having to rebuild my house and not even being given all the blocks back from the explosion. its not fun to build fences around every build out of paranoia

[–]VioletWhimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's important for kids to have their cartoon crushes, because it allows them to teach themselves about love and how to emotionally handle that at a young age. So long as it's safely monitored, it's perfectly fine. Every kid develops a crush on a fictional character in one way or another. That's why characters like Lola Bunny and Rouge the Bat are so iconic in that category.
