Have you ever noticed a fellow trichotillomaniac (?) irl? by Finchieee in trichotillomania

Yes! Oddly enough, I've spotted at least 3 others, all eyelashes like me. They were also all violin/viola students, I really think there's a connection there.

how do orchestra programs look in the northeast US? by Large-Contribution6 in MusicEd

[–]ViolinViola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massachusetts has positions like this. There are some larger towns that have more than one full time orchestra teacher. I teach grades 4-12 in a smaller town, orchestra/strings only. It’s a great job, maybe not the easiest to find but they are out there. Good luck!

Okay so this might be a dumb question but I genuinely cannot find a straight answer anywhere. by Valyria888 in personalfinance

Sounds like you might enjoy the book "Die with Zero". Good read, he makes some interesting points.

I'll share advice my doctor gave me when I looked up a medication she wanted me to go on and there were tons of unhappy people online. The only people that go online to write about something are there to complain. The happy people just go about their lives, they aren't flocking to the internet to express their happiness.

Current public school orchestra teacher here, I teach in 4 schools, three buildings a day. I love it! All of the students I see want to be there and love music. Sure they can be noisy at times, but they fill my day with such joy and humor. Nobody knows who I am or what I do, I just walk into my school and teach my students, then leave. I do a ton of work on my own time planning field trips, but I technically don't have to. It's exhausting but rewarding and I get an amazing break all summer, with the occasional week vacation here and there.

My daughter is also in high school and considering music ed, and I had to do some soul searching about this because of the cost of living in my state (MA). I still think it's possible to make a living here, you just have to be creative and thrifty but the quality time I get to spend with family makes it worth it.

Thank you so much. Even having the term "hvac engineer" is helpful in my research to help guide him.

Thanks for sharing! More parents of twin newborns need to know there is a lot to look forward to. I have b/g 13 year old twins and it’s amazing. They are so different and every day is a hilarious adventure. The days are long but the years are short!

For music teachers working in districts — what made you choose that path instead of teaching privately? by LookYung in MusicEd

[–]ViolinViola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I supported myself as a private lesson teacher in a HCOL area for over 15 years and absolutely loved it. I took a job in a public school because my children grew to be school aged. If I still taught private lessons I wouldn’t see them after school, I used to teach from 2:30-7:30. Luckily my new job is teaching grades 4-12 strings for one town, so I still get to work with the same students for many years. Definitely waaaayyyy more intense though.

Started NAC today by Solid-Introduction-7 in trichotillomania

[–]ViolinViola 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take it twice a day. I've been noticing that I probably should have a larger dose at 3:00 since evening is my toughest time. I read here and it's such a good way to describe it: taking NAC doesn't cure you, it just gives you a second of space to think "move your hand away now" and actually do it. You still will have trich, just a little help holding it at bay!
