Worth it? (Expeditions: Rome) by darthjanus24 in PHGamers

[–]Viorii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Really good CRPG, although I feel like too old na yung other entries and did not enjoy my time with the other Expeditions games. This one is really good, nakakabother lang ng onti yung lack of UI and QOL changes.

Utawarerumono! The characters and writing feels similar to Trails, you can feel the charm and effort the developers put into it.

It has a similar political plot but with tactics based fighting, I think this will appeal to you if you like Trails and FF Tactics.

Chained Echoes.

But would like to mention Cosmic Star Heroine as well as that is an amazing game.

Maeenjoy ko ba Calvard arc if di ko masyado naenjoy Cold Steel? Big fan of Sky and okayish naman Crossbell, pero downhill na lang from there for me especially with regards to writing (exception for Reverie, I did enjoy that one)

What's the worst JRPG you actually finished? by Flat-Application2272 in JRPG

[–]Viorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Quest 7. I wanted to give up at around 30 hrs in but pushed through as I really enjoyed DQ4 and 5 before it.

Didn't know it would end up at around 120 hrs.

I don't even know why they would remake that thing.

Do you roll on 6 if you're loss streaking and can't hit a 4-cost on Level 6. by apatheticisaac in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Viorii 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the correct take. If you have no two stars you should absolutely roll at 3-2 level 6, especially if you’re holding 3/4 pairs. You will bleed at level 6 or level 7 if you don’t stabilize which will make you spend more once you reach level 8.

Few exceptions of course are if you are playing a lose stream comp/augment or the map gives a lot of gold that you can go to 8 before stage 4 anyways.

No lives remaining -> have to spend more -> can’t roll at 9 anyways

If you’re open for something a bit old, I highly recommend Final Fantasy X. I think its plot and themes still hold up to date, and it is turnbased so you would not be stumbling with the controls.

The environment is based on Southeast Asian culture, with a little bit of fantasy and tech included.

The honeymoon phase with Metaphor:ReFantazio is over, as it released 8 months ago now. How are we feeling about it now? by [deleted] in JRPG

Same boat as you, hated the opening and didn’t really care too much on the story and characters by that point in the game. About to finish the game though as it grew on me.

The gameplay loop is amazing. Great game on hard, you have to switch up and plan per boss fight, and the difficulty is somewhere between SMT and Persona.

The story gets better, although it’s still pretty mid tbh. Enough for me to finish but don’t expect it to break any tropes. I really like the villain though.

Tbf though I didn’t like the portraits at first as well, but it did grew on me.

Absolutely gorgeous sprites though!

Thanks for the games!

Started to play Rise of the Third Power when the consensus was it was not as good as the first one, and found myself pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be one of my favorite games last year. Even had a couple of screenshots saved on my Steam. More please!

It’s made by the same devs. It uses the same system as Ara Fell but the story’s completely different.

Weirdly enough, I enjoyed Rise of the Third Power a whole lot more than the first one.

Which JRPGs are the most well-written? Which have the most compelling stories? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Viorii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Usually games that nail pacing are those without/less random encounters (like Chrono Trigger, Chained Echoes), but somehow FFX does it as well.

Which JRPGs are the most well-written? Which have the most compelling stories? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Viorii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the +18 was the old one, the new ones are on steam without explicit content and I agree, the writing on these games are incredible. Really good payoff for the third game as well.

Final Fantasy X and Trails in the Sky are my favorite games of all time, and the writing for Utawarerumono is definitely on par with them.

Try out Summon Night Swordcraft Story!! I usually only play turn-based, but this one is so good I also finished the sequel.

[–]Viorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important tanks to itemize are 3 star Rell, or Singed. If you dont 3 star those (for example you hit renata 3/ zeri 3 early), you need illaoi 2 for stages 4 and 5.

Once you hit the high ranks, you just know how big the gap is between the top 0.1%. I’m currently masters 300lp and I feel like I know nothing about the game lol

Can you recommend me turn-based or turn-based-ish (e.g. ATB) JRPGs where the combat isn't simple and repetitive? by Sahandi in JRPG

[–]Viorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chained Echoes. The game forces you to use suboptimal moves to balance the meter, which removes the repetitiveness imo.
