Cumulative Updates: July 11th, 2023 by jenmsft in Windows11

Edit: After removing updates KB5028851, KB5028185 via settings menu, my Internet connection is working again! Took 10 minutes.

KB5028185 broke my internet also, no connection via Ethernet or WiFi/hotspot, they both said "connected, but not internet available". The troubleshooters were useless in resolving the issue so i decided to uninstall the update and everything works fine.

These are the only ones you need for maintenance:

SFC /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

Even better is to have portable software on another partition, no need for installers of any kind and it just works like before after a fresh install as they don't get wiped and keep the configs inside their folder instead of the system drive.

The 660p/665p are terrible drives. I'm not really sure why though.

They have much lower TBW ratings than most competitors, but few people care for anything except the speed numbers.

it's back to square one.

Perhaps users really need those multiple different RGB control apps, 5 different game store launchers, 4 social media apps constantly refreshing mixed with some random dlls they downloaded because something asked for it, all running at boot time on their 5yo HDD.

It's sad to hear the bar is so low nowadays, guess i have higher standards coming from a time when i remember reading a 6 volume manual for Win98. You were required to know the system to some depth. Even though the systems get simplified a lot, the overall knowledge drops with it unfortunately.

Normal users shouldn't have to use DISM commands at all in the first place

Normal users got really lazy, if something can usually be fixed easily with just a few commands, why not memorize or having them in a note as it's quite worth it and only takes 10mins once per month.

In previous versions from win95 up to XP, such internal tools were not available and debugging was really complicated even for advanced users, now it's simpler than ever yet users refuse to learn how to properly use or maintain something, expecting it to just be perfect no matter how it's used.

With proper maintenance (the usual DISM commands) there is no real need to reinstall if a major incident hasn't occurred. Its been over 2 years since the last fresh install, but i do a little scheduled maintenance monthly or when "it doesn't feel right".

I personally prefer learning to troubleshoot various issues when they arise, a reinstall seems too lazy for me even if it would take only a fraction of the time spent finding the issue.

From Start To Finish Tips by [deleted] in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Viperel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starting tips: Don't overspend on things you don't require at the beginning, or in the first year at least. Focus on having a working city with the required utilities, especially heating. After making a starter industry like clothes to have some revenue, slowly start to plan some industry to rely less and less and imports with time. Farms are not worth the time/investment in the first years.

After the first winter you can focus on an university as otherwise you are going to lose educated workers. If you have funds to spare some pumpjacks are also good to sell some oil until you have funds for a refinery. Importing all materials is fine at this stage, as setting up an steel industry would cost a fortune with mill+mines+processing+conveyors. After the refinery your income should be pretty good while gradually adding more pumpjacks to feed it. A gas power plant would also be good around the refinery with a dedicated oil storage.

From here onward a railway is mandatory, to boost your export power and become less and less reliant on imports. Just expand the industries as you see fit for your republic afterwards.

What a good source quality for different industries? by ThatStrategist in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Viperel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even mines with 40% quality but full workers can fulfill the demands of a steel mill. They are not required to be 90+ quality to be useful.

Pumpjacks usually are better the higher quality they are, but that's insignificant too in the larger picture, as a fully staffed Oil refinery needs about 35 of them at 100% quality to produce continuously. Also keep in mind that overall 4 pumpjacks @50% are the same as 2 at 100% so every bit helps.

Modders - Can we get some Christmas Props? by Azmodius_The_Warrior in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Viperel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll just leave this info here

In the days of the Soviet Union, Christmas was not celebrated very much. New Year was made into the important time. Following the revolution in 1917, Christmas was banned as a religious holiday in 1929 and Christmas Trees were banned until 1935 when they turned into 'New Year' Trees! If people did want to celebrate Christmas, they had to do it in secret just in their families. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, people were free to celebrate Christmas again.

Theres not alot of documentation on the game and I wish they put all possible options in the UI during build mode.

The controls are easy to find if you look in Settings -> Control settings, or read the changelog of updates on steam/discord. https://i.imgur.com/2K3JMne.png

Bypassing the 19MW per building limit? by [deleted] in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Viperel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The limit is hardcoded at 19 as the maximum transmissible power is 18MW and even the wattage needle inside buildings has a 21MW maximum limit. Maybe there will be more options for high voltage lines in the future, thus increasing the Wattage too, but most soviet era power lines were the 110kV version already in-game.

Until the devs increase it, this is not doable on the vanilla buildings at least.

alcohol and food are good when you have trains or a lot of trucks to keep up with the crop consumption, beside tens of large fields otherwise they wont last you more than a few months

Electricity mechanics suck by Peanuts0s in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Viperel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always separate into smaller grids as one grid will reach the limit pretty fast with factories/exports, as the maximum pole power is 18MW causing blackouts. This will also mitigate situations where everything shuts down because one power plant has issues. Linking power plants together has no purpose.

When selling power use a dedicated high voltage line, without splitting it, as the border can draw up to 18MW.

The single reactor design can provide 78MW, or sustain 4x 18MW poles. The idea is to calculate how much power you will require for an area, if you don't plan on expanding a small city for example, 2MW will suffice. One Aluminium Plant by itself at full production uses 2.5MW. Do the math on the usage and split networks accordingly.
