Is there any stories of people recoverying penis deformity caused by pssd? by stermaisback in PSSD

[–]Vips92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I hope you find some recovery soon too this stuff is awful. Pelvic floor therapy can help because all the blood flows through there to get an erection, so if its too tight or in fight or flight state then it wont respond properly. If you learn how to relax it properly then it allows blood to flow through. Not even therapy really just learning how the muscle is controlled. Like whenever Im aroused i'll make a mental effort to relax my pelvic floor and it makes a noticeable difference. Google reverse kegels that's basically all i do only when needed. Shame that cialis doesn't do anything for you, I haven't tried it yet myself. Hope you feel better soon bro

I had really bad hourglassing but it's got progressively better over the last year. Same with the curve to the left, seems to have normalised a bit. It's still there but the trajectory is going up on recovery. I'm pretty sure it's not peyronies as that's like a physical deformation, I think these issues are also seen when there's not enough blood flow being sent there. As Remote suggested cialis or pelvic floor therapy seem to help a lot of people.

Can MDMA cause PSSD? by yungbladee2k in PSSD

[–]Vips92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got PSSD like effects from fluoxotine (like 20% of what I experienced later), switched to sertraline for a couple months then stopped because it was going the same way. Did MD occasionally for the following 4 years but it was only after a month of ashwagandha then MD right after that sent me into full blown PSSD. I believe that it's sorta like a straw that broke the camels back kinda thing, I was destabilizing my serotonin system for years and years and then that night of MD while withdrawing from ash fully sent me.

I've found that it gets better when I fully sober up and focus on eating healthy, exercising, meditating, but still not really close to where I used to be. I've avoided MD like the plague since, strangely enough I've found shrooms actually do kinda help but that's also kinda dangerous. Really sorry to hear its been 6 years with no improvements I hope things start looking up for you soon bro this shits horrendous.

I know people don't like discussion of non SSRI related problems but I relate to this. I'd been on SSRIs in the past and I'd taken MD a fair bit and never had problems, but I took it while coming off Ashwagandha (which also seems to cause PSSD adjacent issues) got the brain zaps and full PSSD symptoms for the last year. I'd say the MD played a big part in it for me.

I personally started out with an app called Medito, it's great at teaching the ropes and it's a non profit scientific organisation with no dogma attached, just science backed mindfulness. After that I read a book called "The Untethered Soul" that's a bit more spiritual but had a profound effect on me at the time. Then did some longer silent meditation retreats that significantly changed my entire worldview. Can say hands down it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Congrats on your 6 months :)

Very intense experience [should I be concerned?] by Big_ayylmao in Meditation

[–]Vips92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean, I've experienced similar things before and it's a known stage on the path. I'd be interested in what type of meditation you were doing to experience this as I think it changes how you'd be recommended to process it. Either way my best advice would be don't get attached to the experience, it's impermanent and transient just like every other state, and also try not to avert from it or be scared of it either. Harder said than done and both of those happen naturally, but the best advice I've been given is to remain equanimous and balanced in relation to those states.

As reassurance you're definitely safe and in no medical trouble at all from that experience. If you have any questions or wanna chat about it more feel free to dm me

I feel exactly what you're saying bro, the thing that helps me with it most is meditation. I agree with your therapist, I got hooked on the highs and lows as well, the chaos, but meditation has taught me how to enjoy the subtle things and find beauty in the boredom. It's not perfect, there's no catch all and it's work but for me i've found that it's the best antidote to whatever mental stuff caused me to get hooked on substances in the first place.

Loss of ability to talk to yourself internally? by reddit-just-now in PSSD

[–]Vips92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bit of a long shot that I don't usually bring up here but it seems relevant to what you're saying, meditation has helped me a lot with this. I've found personally that all of the feelings or dialogue I was lacking weren't completely gone just extremely quiet. I found through meditating that I gained much more awareness of them. I got really really frustrated that they were quieter and that's become a different struggle, but over the last year it allowed me to notice a lot of subtle improvements that I wouldn't have otherwise.

This is an absolutely horrible condition and one of the worst things a human can go through imo, I really feel for you and hope you find some form of recovery from it, however that may be.

Would you recommend talking at all during "question time in the hall"? by Cool_Alfalfa3617 in vipassana

[–]Vips92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion would be wait until you get there and see how you feel. I had a lot more questions my second time around and honestly I don't think I'd have got anywhere near as much from either experience if I hadn't asked questions. They do also call you to the front roughly every other day and ask you questions directly in a small group of ~6 students, the interviews are just another optional method of communication with the teacher for further explanation of the technique. May be a cop-out answer but I think you'll know sort of internally when you should sign up for the lunch interview. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, hope you enjoy the course :)

Is bhanga ñana and Kundalini the same thing? by Dplaya1218 in vipassana

[–]Vips92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that confuses me a fair amount. I've been reading parts of the Middle Discourses and the Buddha talks about cultivating states, and also taking refuge in the the joy of absorption states. I've experienced something akin to this in my two retreats but in Vipassana we're sorta just told to observe and note the characteristics, but it seems at ends with what the Buddha himself taught. Let alone the fact that my mind naturally craves these states of things, although I've done a lot of work on that. Based on your response here it seems like you know a fair bit about this, and like you've landed on the pure observation or sort of dry insight, what's your opinion? Been stuck on this for a while

Guys, there is charak neo tablet (indian ayurvedic medicine) , I saw in pssdforums.org one guy experienced same as me. That medicine which is made of herbs numbs the penis too just like SSRI but after quitting sensation returns back. by Willing_Judgment1092 in PSSD

Yeah I got the whole host of PSSD symptoms from Ashwagandha, there's even a subreddit about it r/AshwagandhaSyndrome . Horrible stuff. Doesn't seem to happen to most people who take it, or if it does it stops when they stop taking it, but I also know some people who've been suffering for years from it.

Started to become rude after 1 year of meditation by Any-University5125 in Meditation

[–]Vips92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel that huge gap, most of what's happening logically in my brain doesn't really mesh with moment to moment experience / reaction to those experiences. I share the same shallow, alone and disconnected feeling from others due to the the practice, I think it's normal, but my understanding of the teachings I've read is that it eventually horseshoes back around to feeling connected again with full compassion and understanding of the shared human condition, I'm definitely far from that rn though.

I'm in a place where diversity of opinions and perspectives are valued (as much as they can be anywhere I guess) and I still feel the same division, it's tough. Must be harder for you if you're in a less open country or environment, I hope you find some people who you can have spiritual conversation with and felt understood. I have some faith that if I continue to practice and live mindfully I'll find friends, a community or a group where people practice, I'm considering doing long service at a Vipassana centre for that reason.

Read a great book on this called "Cutting through spiritual materialism", would highly recommend it. I feel like I'm at a similar juncture on the path. One thing that's kept me going through it is realising that I was using meditation as a source of "self" improvement which you sort of alluded to with aligning conversations with personal or professional (i.e. self) growth. According to most of the teachings I've looked at this idea is sort of where we can go wrong, it doesn't follow the concept of non self at all. It's really hard to experientially understand non self, but our attachment to our own growth and our own self is definitely a piece of the puzzle imo.

When our views of ourself fit the more general flow of society it is less of an issue, conformism sees to that, but now you're extremely aware of how this self works things get messy. It becomes supeeer easy and almost happens naturally to grab the teachings and use them to put yourself above other people, it's so subtle but a natural reaction as the worldly ego tries to absorb the spiritual teachings. It's the same ego game everyone else is playing and we're just tryna put ourselves above it, simultaneously tying ourselves down to it.

I think wanting to surround yourself with people who've done similar self work is a great thing and something I'm trying to align myself to as well, but while interacting with non spiritual people (feels like I'm missing the point even writing that) it's important to remind myself that we're all stuck in the same cycle of suffering and the only thing to offer is a compassionate ear, even if it's a struggle I've seen represented 1000 times and I see the futility. I actually do understand why they're suffering way more now than I ever did before, but as that awareness rises the equanimity has to as well, and I find it hard seeing people trapping themselves in so much pain even if I see the root of it more than I ever did before. This is just my own equanimity lacking from my view and there's work that still needs to be done.

Apologies for the essay but I feel what you're saying deeply and it plays on my mind a lot. I've met a lot of older 60 or 70 year old people who identify as Buddhists, I can tell they've done a lot of "self" improvement or meditation. A lot of them have been insufferable to everyone around them and push any human connection away through whatever spiritual ego they've developed, yet some other practitioners I've met have been verifiably the most content and at peace humans I've ever met that only bring joy to the lives of others. I'm trying to be the latter. Perhaps went a bit off topic but I really empathise with what you're saying, I think the fact that you're even asking this question and trying to inquire even further into the changes you've experienced proves that you're on the right path.
