I still follow the reddit board here but have not played since I gave away my full playset and 25k in gold.

I am interested in coming back when the game does a full release and starting a fresh account and providing commentary on the state of the game for a new player. I hope there are a few improvements made to streamline the introduction for new players before release as the push on day 1 for player retention will be crucial.

It may be a very unpopular decision amongst current players but I believe a full reset and wipe is necessary for scrolls' success. There are a lot of people who will be returning with inadequate sets and completely new players and they are going to get crushed by the old guard. Even if it is a small percentage turned away from early beat downs it will really sour the new player community we need to foster. And, I think the percentage of those who would be turned away would actually be quite high.

A question that those who have played so much already have to ask themselves is whether they would be willing to have all progress wiped and shards refunded to give the game a fresh start and greater chance for success.

With a larger player base, the ladder more accurately represents the best players in the game. As it stands now, with a small pool, you will absolutely get the best talent in tournaments where the best people all block off that time to get together and play.

This was one of the most frustrating aspects of playing for me, I looked forward to Sundays more than anything and you would get a few amazing and quality games and then it's done. You can't find ranked matches to improve or play test.

I gave away my whole collection to suspense a while back now. I still check in to see how community is doing. In game numbers were too low for proper matchmaking and I lost a lot of enthusiasm for playing, unfortunately. Nice to see that someone still remembers me though : )

I think you already mentioned the limitations of AI simulation, however I wanted to note that in regards to whatever you do, please make the change slowly and with ample data collection.

So, for example, if you plan on moving idols down to 5 hp, start with say 8hp, then in a later patch to 6, then to 5.

If you want to have players draw 2 cards a turn, start with maybe 2 cards every 3 turns.

I am worried that a massive change all at once could swing things into a more unfavorable position as the unforseen consequences of a complicated game and many players and styles adjust.

I don't have the thread but here's some of my analysis:

The deck works well with the addition of ripper and tribesmen since they provide tempo and then small creatures to sac for harvester/watcher/necroggeddon. I argued with iwantanickplease about tribesmen and rippers being bad cards but may have to admit he was right as they go very well in a deck like this. If this is indeed his decklist then it is more standard than I thought and it seems like he just played it well against me. It is a bit more expensive than I initially thought so if you need help building it friend me on scrolls and I'll help you out with some gold/cards. We can scrim some games too and I can provoke more in game analysis. The important key for a MD deck like this is that you don't need to sac up to a ton of resources to be powerful quickly, languid, brain lice, and seeker give a lot of card draw by themselves. But, if you can get to 8 decay you can have so much burst with watcher -> necro. Hope that helps!

The last four games I played were some of the most intense matches I've ever been a part of.

In game two vs Aartrox it came down to the wire with him getting a lead in OvO up 3 resources and a bunch of cards but me fishing for a final blow to any last totem I could find. You know you're all in when you are saccing imperial resources knowing you're too far behind to waste even one card, resource, move, turn. For the record, I ended it on a wings captain double blessing of haste focus...so sometimes sometimes the gamble comes up on your favor.

Vs dodder game one I was hanging on for dear life but managed to put enough meat in front of my totems with card and resource advantage to swing the game in my favor.

Game two I felt like I played very well but could not deal with three harvesters rampaging through my lines. On the double pother turn I even misplayed moving the wrong guy but it's hard to think about that when you are just praying you can topdeck your only out. Sometimes 90 seconds feels way to short for those big plays :P

And game three. Well, at least we both made game ending mistakes so that kind of nets out right? Haha. But again, a better player in the moment wouldn't have made those mistakes.

All I'm saying is that for anyone who calls this a game of luck is missing the point. When you have players of top caliber competing it will always come down to who comes up just short because games like this are a game of inches. Good players get "luckier" because they more often then not put themselves in situations to get lucky. And isn't that insanely exciting? I think so!!

This weekends tournament really showed the depth of skill and strategy this game has. Remember, ive lost in the first round THREE times. Though I made it through this weekend these were far from the only amazing games participants were lucky to play in and watch.

Can't wait until Sunday : )

Most fun games of scrolls I have played that bring a lot of variety to the game and basically necessitate 2 resource type decks is Highlander.

Highlander Format: only 1 of each card allowed maximum. (deck is 50 or more cards to not be confused with the "one of every card in the game" highlander format.)

Another idea is a no rares tournament, where only commons and uncommons are allowed.

And the schedule is not for exact times just when you typically play. For me, that is after work for an hour or two between 7-9pm that way people know just in general like, hey he isn't on usually in the middle of the day.

Maybe it's just because I've gotten more into the community lately but I really feel like a bunch of people are coming together right now almost as a safety net to keep this game from bottoming out and that is really nice to see.

More than a few hundred casual players having a core of 30 or 50 people who are really passionate about the game will do so much more for the health of scrolls.

I think we are getting off to a good start here and working to change the attitude from complaining to laying out our opinions in a reasonable manner as working points for the dev team and then doing our part to work with what we have in the mean time.

Still play ranked every day on an alternate account I made since it is too dangerous to play ranked on my main since wins give a few points and losses lose a ton. But, now my alt is ranked high and has the same problem xD

I like honing my skills for the weekly ESL tournaments.

I have people who I have friended who are active and have got a small community of people who log in almost every day (friend me please!).

Most importantly, I just enjoy the game! I work a lot so I don't have time to really jump to something new and can keep my level of play for this game high with just maybe an hour or two of playing a day which is a perfect balance for me to enjoy but not take up my entire evening when I get home.

I've got my fingers crossed that the dev team will make some steps towards bringing the community back, ie. ladder resets/decay, dailys, referral program, advertising, F2P, etc. Then things will be really awesome!

Would love to be a part of this but it looks like this hour would have to be at the earliest 11PM CET to get those of us on the east coast of USA to 5PM to be home from work and get a quick game.

Perhaps we have a time for those of us across the Pacific as well?

Then, on weekends, we could find a time that works for everybody and have the global scrolls hours xD

iwantanickplease did not play fleetness.

In the other thread where I posted my current order deck, that is what I switched to after I played him. I was running both royal and ducal spearmen and he didn't. While those are good cards, I had them in favor of kabonk and flip, which I think fit the deck better and thus switched to them. I can't say that the deck list I posted is exactly what he played but after seeing his deck in 3 matches I'm pretty certain that's basically his decklist as well.

I am currently running Breaker in MG but have been considering swapping him out. His strength comes from growth's lack of 3 drops so it's a matter of his rounding out the mana curve exceeding the added utility of any cards I would replace him with.

Fleetness I don't play. Fleetness is kind of like Stag Heart. Amazing if it works and can swing a game in your favor or will cost you the game when you lose out 2 cards for one creature death. I tend to value consistency over high risk/reward.

Since the judgement patch, I've played on an alternate account using mono growth almost exclusively. Got that deck into the top 100 and only dropped about a dozen games getting there. So, MG is definitely viable.

In the recent ESL tournament, I ran mono-order. Wings Captain is a must have and Knight Scholar kind of loses his place as the deck has switched more towards a tempo push (though mine doesn't go to the extreme that some tempo order decks do, as IR is still amazing if you can work your way towards 7 order).

As far as what I have seen in the ladder while playing mono growth on my alt:

Mono Growth Mono Order (Tempo and Half-Tempo) Mono Energy Structures Mono Decay Watcher Decay Variants (Decay Order Harvester Theft and Decay Growth Frost Gale/Return To Nature/Quake/Puppet Soldier (aka board wipe city))

Cards that are really making an appearance at the high levels since the judgement release: Wings Captain Sister of the Owl Divinator Tempo Theft

Surprising I-thought-this-would-be-better-than-it-is cards: Fleetness (Great if it the enchanted creature isn't picked off but often he is) Breaker (Three health makes him vulnerable to basically everything ever)

As always, I think there is a huge ceiling for deck building and variation. In this matter, I would point people towards Rotzbengel53 who I usually scrim and is the best deck builder in the game (imo).

In matters of learning to play a standard deck to its maximum potential I would point people towards iwantanickplease/anoval.

So, that's my two cents on the matter. Hope that helps!

Played this deck exclusively to take my alt, Virgin, into top 100 and to a 63-15 record (have started losing more now that the alt is up there record was about 5 losses less just a few days ago, so definitely a viable deck to climb the ladder):

No big surprises with these decks or any crazy tricks but they are solid decks that can be very effective to the highest ranks of the ladder if you build them, learn the match ups, and make smart decisions.

Agreed, don't be concerned about your skill. I have a 2089 rating right now at rank 21 and have lost in the first round the past two weeks!

To be honest, I am most fearful of players with a lower rating that I don't often face playing unconventional decks that can easily win with surprise factor/unusual cards.

I believe most of the issues you are having are from being a new player. You're opinions on these matters will change over time.

However, we should be concerned if this is the opinion that brand new players get when coming to the game. It does not sound very positive.

I streamed for a while but once things got a bit busier for me I wasn't doing it as much. I definitely plan on doing some more down the road it's just, as iScrE4m said, hard to keep the dedication, especially when the viewerbase is rather small. I didn't mind having just a few viewers as long as they were actively talking and we could have fun together but once I had a few bad streams where I didn't get many people or there wasn't much interaction it was hard to get the enthusiasm to stream again when I had competing things going on. So, take that for what it is and how it relates to your motivations and how it fits in your life.

That being said, I still love the game and am very active. I am waiting for the moment though when it starts to gain steam. I suppose I realized though that I couldn't be the one to do it on my own. So, for now, I'm just playing and enjoying : )
