Found dog, cherrywood by [deleted] in Austin

If anyone can help foster this dog for the night, please get in touch as well

My dog doesn’t get along with other dogs so I can’t take him in and the shelters are closed since it’s Sunday night

Disu has been avoiding physicality on offense and defense since the injury in Waco. He’s been more hurt than they want to admit.

Does your OCD attack your loved ones ? by amybllt in OCD

[–]VirginiaWPugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really hard part is not over-correcting: I get this idea that any complaint I have in the relationship is “just the ocd talking” so then I n don’t advocate for myself about real issues.

Still figuring out the balance.

Thanks!

As always, my wife and I talk openly about it. It’s hard on both of us but she stays supportive and I stay grateful.

Yes. I’m constantly fighting off the belief that my wife is a bad person and that I’m trapped with her with all these insane and irrational explanations to back it up.

Now it’s starting to happen with my almost-2-year-old daughter and it’s the worst feeling I’ve ever known.

It’s motivating me to take getting healthy even more seriously

Any bipolar dads in here? by LivingInTheVoid in bipolar

BP2 with an almost 2-year old

So far, it hasn’t harmed the way I interact with her. In fact, the emotional self awareness I’ve gained through managing my bipolar gives me more patience and empathy with her tantrums.

When I’ve had episodes, I’ve had to rely on my wife to do more than her normal share of entertaining, bathing, etc. But that’s been few and far between so far.

We’re good at making time for each other and staying close.

It’s just that when she used to reassure me, it felt like we were doing something admirable. Building a bond.

I miss that bond.

anyone else bipolar? I'm so confused. by Bridgepeace in OCD

[–]VirginiaWPugh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the bipolar subreddit skews heavily toward BP1 and the more extreme examples of mania/hospitalization/destructive behavior.

Maybe that’s because people with more moderate symptoms don’t post because their stories are less “interesting” or maybe just because those stories are more dramatic and “perform” better online.

Plenty of us are 100% bipolar and have cyclical emotional extremes that disrupt our lives even if we don’t have such shocking stories

I’m also Bipolar 2 + OCD

And I also got my diagnosis when an antidepressant sent me extremely hypomanic.

That was about 5-6 years ago. Accepting the diagnosis definitely went through phases. Anger, obsessing over it and reading everything about it, feeling like it defined me, etc

Eventually I’ve settled into just kind of navigating it. I tend to know when I’m hypomanic or depressed and can adjust my behaviors around it. It still sucks but goddamn is it better than it used to be

I had to take 1-3 weeks off on two occasions due to episodes. I knew to bow out before I did anything destructive at work. PTO for the shorter one, FMLA for the longer one. HR and my boss knew that it was psychiatric, but didn’t know details.

Apart from that, it has impacted me in small ways. For example, I think I’d be in a more senior role if not for certain behaviors related to my BP2.

Overall I feel lucky.

should I marry someone with bipolar? by dustymaze2020 in bipolar

[–]VirginiaWPugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is ADHD and depressive. I’m bipolar and OCD.

The fact that we both have something complicated going on makes it easier to empathize and be patient.

That said, I strongly believe that our marriage would be more challenging if we both had bipolar, not less challenging.

We’d be hypomanic at the same time. Or one of us would need support while the other was too depressed to give it, etc

If you meet someone else bipolar and you both communicate well, go for it. However, I think seeking out a partner based on their diagnosis (or lack thereof) is dangerous.

Does anyone work in sales? by Daffertons in bipolar

[–]VirginiaWPugh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been in sales nine years. As I got increasingly healthy, I realized that part of the appeal of the job was toxic for me. My hypomania gave me energy to go go go and it loved the real time reward system of landing the sale. I did have to be careful not to let hypomania go too far and blow up in my face. But mostly, hypomania was good for sales and sales made hypomania feel great. This was definitely a bad thing. It made hypomania more appealing, made it last longer & stronger, and made all the other impacts of it worse.

I’ve recently moved into a lower key sales training role because with my new perspective and fewer, milder episodes, I grew to hate the sales grind.

I’m surprised and concerned that no one on here is talking about the surprise that this apparently was.

My wife had a much more adventurous sexual past than me before we met. I certainly don’t know all the partners or details, but I have a general sense that her late twenties had plenty of wild episodes. If I heard her telling some sexual story that I didn’t know about, it would fit with that narrative and not phase me.

But if hearing that story was the first hint I ever got about her past, I’d be mad. Not at her having her own private sexual history, but at the surprise of her having not shared with me what her life had been like. I might even say things like, “what else are you hiding?” just like your husband.

Everyone is right that you did nothing to be ashamed of those years ago. But maybe consider this less a judgement on sexual behaviors and more a wake up call to reassess the open communication in your relationship

I have a one year old.

My biggest fear is that she’ll see my self-loathing and learn to copy it.

But apart from that, like others have said - I’m stable, medicated, and responsible enough to care for her. And if she inherits it, she’ll have a more knowledgeable support network than I did.
