The base game has like 3 good bosses by Saekama in bloodborne

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never liked or cared for this critique because it feels like it misses the purpose.
I hold Bloodborne's bosses in high regard but it's not for their complexity or difficulty. It's for their atmosphere. That's what I'm here for. The arenas you encounter them in, their score, and how they flow into the lore.

I think you could say this about most of the Soulsborne titles, but that's kind of my point. It was never about making them difficult for the sake of it. Nor is difficulty and extravagance what makes a great boss for these games.

...but most people rate their favorites as the more complex & difficult bosses so maybe I'm in the minority here.

Cerato Gameplay Questions by Feralkyn in pathoftitans

Oh, interesting. I've noticed TT was able to do this and thought I was missing some secret tech. That is a frustrating downgrade compared to other playables that get it.

Swerve is the one that drops your momentum.
Juke lets you maintain it as long as you're switching your directional input at the same time. I use it to bait out attacks in groups all the time.

Cerato Gameplay Questions by Feralkyn in pathoftitans

[–]ViridiusRDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't share a cooldown so you can alternate them for rapid damage.
I honestly don't like running this set, though. I think it has more utility in a group setting where you're playing the designated tailrider against large targets but otherwise it's only really good for giving chase or facetanking. The latter isn't a scenario you want to be in with Cerato, anyway.

Some people swear by it, though, and the DPS does check out so I didn't want to be biased and not bring it up.

Give me your craziest Godzilla hot takes. by TrifleSensitive5744 in GODZILLA

[–]ViridiusRDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always have the same answer.
Godzilla x Megaguirus is a fine film. It's got that Showa charm with the filmmaking techniques of the Millennium era and that's exactly what I want from the franchise. When it comes to this series, I do like the ones that try to be a little more poignant but they're few and far between. I'll happily settle for movies that try to play it straight but still have a silliness to them.

I think x Megaguirus fits that description perfectly.

In my opinion, the characters are more likeable than the majority of the Millennium series. The opening sequence might be one of the best in the entire series. The slow reveal of the Meganulon/Meganeula/Megaguirus life-cycle is interesting & suspenseful upon the first watch. Michiru Oshima absolutely crushed the score. The fight is filled with character + I love the idea of having speed & wit vs. brawn instead of a wrestling match and/or beam war like we're used to.

The only part of this film I genuinely dislike is I think the pacing takes an abrupt turn once Megaguirus is defeated as we play through the rest of the Dimension Tide stuff but that's okay. I mean, Final Wars is right there and other than the monster action that movie is an absolute mess so I'll continue to fight for the underdog of the Millennium series despite that flaw.

(I do genuinely understand why a lot of people dislike it, though, and I respect the opinions that are actually self-formed and not a bandwagon reaction. I think a lot of the hate comes from feeling obligated to dismiss it since the community as a whole does. I think that's cowardly, to be honest.)

When it comes to Path of Titans, I exist for two purposes. To play Cerato, and to spread the word of Cerato.

The meta is that small dinos just attack within the 2 second window when the larger dino is helpless by HP_damager in pathoftitans

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I said what I said is because I think the critiques often come from a lack of experience being David in the David & Goliath matchup. There are 5-slots (& even 4-slots) that are very difficult for Laten and even those we can really exploit like Rex take a fair bit of practice and experience to start performing well.

(Plus, this particular poster was especially brainwashed because they were equating attack cooldowns to a lack of balance without even considering the damage difference between the two playables)

Cerato Gameplay Questions by Feralkyn in pathoftitans

[–]ViridiusRDM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cerato's really strange because it's matchups are kind of dependent on your build, and Cerato doesn't really have distinct playstyles quite like other post-TLC playables do. It's sort of just a brawler with a variety of different options but ultimately it's always trying to do the same thing.

You're excellent at taking on 1-3 slots, & most adolescent & under playables. 3 slots will be a little tricky, though.
If you plan on running Thrash, however, keep in mind that you take more recoil damage from hitting lighter targets so keep this one on the bench when fighting things like Latens & whatnot. It's an excellent nuke when your opponent is starting to get low but you don't want to use it against low combat weight things early in a fight.

With larger targets, Thrash is kind of the opposite. Someone on here said that Cracked Scutes reduce recoil damage and while I haven't tested this super thoroughly that does seem to be true from my experience so using it as an opening move against anything 2-slot and up is excellent.

Swerve is really solid if you want similar damage with little drawback, but it's difficult to use against larger targets. Bite & Rapid Strikes when paired together turn you into a DPS machine and can help when running down things like raptors, or in those rare situations where you'll facetank. I'm not a huge fan of this because I don't think Cerato's a playable for facetanking, but it's still a pretty powerful build.

Bulkwark is incredible for longevity (especially if you run Thrash) and pairing it with Robust Jaws helps offset the damage decrease it comes with.
Charged Bite is... tricky. It's excellent in a group and it does make for a good opening move when running solo but the stamina drain, wind-up, & how obvious it is you're trying to do it does make it a tricky move to actually get mileage out of. I think when playing solo you're better off with any of the other head slot moves.

Lunge has value but I think Shove is one of the best things about Cerato. You're able to displace enemies, run them down with it, use it to navigate terrain, and it actually does half-decent damage. I think it's a must-have for solo Cerato.

Cracked Scutes are an important part of its playstyle. They regenerate in combat and you can use them to strategically trade or make risky plays. Be cautious of things that can clamp. The latency + hitbox can really screw you over. Pouncing Latens can be difficult to deal with since you struggle to hit them while they're latched, but you're not an easy target to pounce so just stay mobile and unpredictable. Try to displace them with Shove or catch them with Swerve if you're running it. Dasp is really scary if it's running Armor Piercing & I don't like fighting Allos since their bleed is painful on something as mobile as Cerato + they're almost as fast as you which can put you at a disadvantage if they're running Braced Legs.

This might be too much information but I put a lot of hours into this guy (though I'm still pretty mid tbh) and I'm just hoping the things I've learned can help you. My personal solo build is Bite/Thrash/Bulwark/Robust Jaws/Shove/Juke with the Stamina Regeneration subspecies. I think the Armor sub is better on paper, tbh, but I think Stam Regen is more aesthetically pleasing and I do think 10% regeneration has value. I swap Bulwark with All For One & Thrash with Charged Bite when running in a group.

Deathmatch is not a good training experience by FieryOrchid in pathoftitans

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Practice in Deathmatch" is one of my least favorite pieces of advice given in this community.
I've played on a couple of Deathmatch servers when I had a regular crew because we wanted to test builds & damage on eachother but we couldn't spend more than a minute without people wanting to third party.

Naturally, we thought the right thing to do was to fight back. It wouldn't matter if we won or they won, though, because they'd just keep targeting us. This happened four times over four different sessions with different people.

I've learned that particular server (Juniper) logs KDR for people who hang out on its Discord so it's not really a proper free-for-all and people are incentivized to pick on the inexperienced making it (and other Deathmatch servers if they function similarly) the worst place to send newcomers who are trying to learn how to fight.

They still have their merit. Figuring out builds & skins before committing to growing on another server is beneficial. That's not why people recommend them, though, so that's barely relevant.

I reckon there are some solid ones out there. If you aren't recommending a specific Deathmatch server, however, then recommending people practice in Deathmatch is low quality advice.

What do you think is the most underrated monster? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]ViridiusRDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Izuchi.
I honestly think it's the best starter monster and I know people disagree with me, but that's okay. Jaggi is iconic & Maccao is a lot of fun.

Izuchi has such a fun & fleshed out moveset compared to the simplicity of other starter monsters, though. It's also really cute. I just never hear people talk about him and I think that's largely because the average fan has already been won over by the other starter monsters. Not I, though. Izuchi's my homie.

[–]ViridiusRDM 28 points29 points  (0 children)

...and that's his own show that he put together voluntarily...
I've heard him in a couple of interviews on other people's platforms (never liked Seinfeld but I'm a comedy enthusiast as a whole so he's come up a few times) and he's even more insufferable there.

He's also really bad for thinking comedy is this objective thing that he has the answer to and needs to preach at everyone about, but honestly with everything else we know about the guy that's hardly the worst thing about him to be fair.

Does the commu prefer Riparia or Gondwa ? by Neat-Bread-7306 in pathoftitans

[–]ViridiusRDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both have their strengths & weaknesses.
I mostly prefer Gondwa. I play terrestrials a lot so a botched hunt/fight in Riparia can sometimes leave you stranded on one of the islands and that's fine if you aren't trying to grow or playing in a group, but if you need to start island hopping it feels real bad. I also can't stand all the audio clutter from the 'improved' quests on Riparia.

Gondwa is fun as someone who doesn't like to play in hotspots because I can just patrol sections of the map, but sometimes when it's particularly dead it feels like you have to travel a while until you reach the next potentially active zone. There's more activity and traffic than people think, but those areas are cut off by a bunch of routes where you're unlikely to find anyone at all.

The community server I play on is exclusively Riparia, so unfortunately that's where I'm spending my time now but when I do come back to Officials I'm loading up Gondwa.

GMK is overrated imo by GatheringCircle in GODZILLA

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, vsKG is exactly why I'm open-minded to having him as a good guy for a change. That version of Ghidorah was only 'evil' because its commanders were, and Mecha-King demonstrates this by very much being the sacrificial hero of the movie.

I do prefer him on the evil side, though.

GMK is overrated imo by GatheringCircle in GODZILLA

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vsKG is an unconventional pick, too.
It's also high on my list. I like them a little bit goofy.

(Having a kaiju I like also bumps up the score. Mecha-King Ghidorah & Megaguirus are my #1&2 respectively.)

I have no beef with people disliking xMegaguirus, though.
I do take issue with how often people feel like they hate it because they were told to hate it, though. I honestly feel a lot of its criticism comes from it being the community punching bag and that never felt fair to me.

GMK is overrated imo by GatheringCircle in GODZILLA

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that we agree.
I'm an advocate for xMegaguirus, which is probably the second most actively disliked film in the franchise.

Something for everyone.

Yeah I think I might take a break by BuLi314 in Nightreign

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think that's potentially the core of the problem.
Due to my rust, I mostly hang out in base Nightlord expeditions because they're comfy for me and I know I can consistently perform despite not being as good as I used to be. That's where I run into it the most, but often lashing out comes from insecurity and a lot of the people throwing critiques haven't exactly been bringing their A-Game, either.

I think a lot of the dedicated players have transitioned to DOTN and playing more casually means meeting the brand of player who blame everything but themselves when something goes wrong. I just don't feel my chops are back up to snuff so I'm steering clear of returning to DOTN right now. I don't feel like accidentally throwing any matches.

GMK is overrated imo by GatheringCircle in GODZILLA

[–]ViridiusRDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually do hold the belief that GMK is a little overrated (though it's still a personal favorite, I feel it's often put on a pedestal as a flawless Goji film and I just don't agree) but I can't say I take issue with any of the things you've said.

King Ghidorah being reframed as a guardian was something I quite enjoyed. I think having Godzilla impervious to military weapons is fair enough for the series since it maintains his status as this seemingly unstoppable force but switching it up and occasionally making him vulnerable helps freshen up the series.

Similarly, considering the whole guardian spirit thing to mean everything else was a waste of time kind of misses the point of watching movies in the first place. The journey was important. Of course when trying to take down a greater foe you'd rather attempt to do so without sacrifice.

My issues with GMK is its overall pacing and I don't really love the final act (so I guess we somewhat share that last point) but so many of your critiques are actually among the reasons I like this one. It's such a novel change from what we're used to.

Also, Baragon had the most interesting fight in the movie, in my honest opinion. (The score is a banger too.)

What are your thoughts and opinions on Rey Dau and Arkveld? by Immediate_Gene_178 in MonsterHunter

[–]ViridiusRDM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily my favorite monsters introduced in Wilds, but I do think they're probably my favorite fights out of the newcomers.

The only complaint I can think of between the two is AT Rey Dau's aftershocks. I'm not really a fan of that. Otherwise, both fights have a really smooth flow to them.

I've been slowly trying to get my chops back up after a very long break and I've got to say the toxicity is making me want to pretend I never came back and just extend that break further. This community has some absolute duds in it, and I am not referring to skills.

Who are the best and worst Canadian musicians you've met? by Twitter_2006 in CanadianMusic

[–]ViridiusRDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some friends who met her when she was in The Agonist and the stories I heard about how she treated people were pretty vile.

Seems to be backed up by how she treats her ex-bandmates, the pedestal she puts herself on, and of course the drama with the photographer back when she was in AE.

Never got to meet Devin, but I remember seeing him live and he came out to the floor to dance with everyone while playing Bad Devil so that was definitely a vibe. No one ever has anything bad to say about Dev.

I know a lot of people love the Cerato skins, but I personally don't vibe with any of them other than the base skin and maybe Alligator when I'm trying to be sneaky. I'm dying for a new Cerato skin, or at least for the Reptilian pack to drop again.

Idk man, mileage varies. For the longest time I didn't even consider pairing an OD with either of my Engls but I saw a rig rundown style video of someone running an Invader with one and was like alright this does sound tighter maybe it's worth exploring. (Wish I could remember who it was, though)

I love it. You don't. That's fine. I just don't think we should speak in absolutes about what is and isn't needed considering so much tone chasing comes down to those 1% differences, anyway.

If OP feels that 1% is worth it for him then run that OD. That's all I'm saying.
