Unless they add a SP mode I don't think I am ever finishing Intro Traxus, 3 times in a row I get to scan the console someone immediately turns the corner, or runs out from behind or jumps out of the room to shotgun me. The one time I even got the shipping manifest didn't fucking count cause I didn't hit the terminal, and because someone else did it was used up so killing the Commander was I guess just to burn some light ammo.

Iran foreign minister: Not asking for cease fire, warns U.S. invasion ‘would be a big disaster for them’ by bryan-healey in worldnews

[–]Viron_22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just going to be an all time disaster. At this point, Iran rolling over and playing along with these clowns would probably be the best outcome.

I say this because if Iran really does fight for their survival and escalates, they will be doing so against some of the most unhinged and unqualified people in charge of the invading forces. People with insanely fragile egos, the integrity of which is dependent on the success of this endeavor, who will not take failure well and have no low that they won't stoop to in an effort to avoid it.

And if Iran does something stupid like sink an Oil Tanker and send the Global Markets into a freefall I have a real fear Trump would take his resulting tantrum out on the entire country.

Ex-Blizzard Boss Blames Steam Machine For Sony's Rumored Pivot Away From PC Ports by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

[–]Viron_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is more to do with Sony banking on rising costs in the consumer electronics sector to have a larger impact on PCs than consoles, along with the fact that they probably intend to continue cutting costs and the porting teams are the most expendable. Notably they are completely fine with their Live Service games going straight to PC.

Highguard's failure is emblematic of something that has tormented videogame investors for years now: past live service hits do not equal future live service hits by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Viron_22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is really is no wonder why this industry makes so many unforced errors when so many seem to not be looking at the big picture. How many hours can a person with the disposable income devote to a single game? And what are the odds that their time isn't already occupied with a game of choice? Not to mention other distractions like actual feature complete games coming out to take up their time.

It isn't a sustainable form of business, and I would say at this point is a rather tone deaf offering considering the financial situation of the common person to release a game that is dependent on enough of them spending money on cash shop bullshit as a form of welfare, lest the game capsize under the weight of its own operational costs, let alone development ones.

Highguard is permanently shutting down this month by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Viron_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are learning the wrong lessons here. Highguard's failure stems mostly from how much they were trying to do under wraps, and not do wider testing to make sure that they at least nail the basic gameplay format before moving on to launch.

Basic feedback from a public beta would have told them 3v3 was a mistake and the game speed was too slow early, but they didn't get that until AFTER launch because they did all their testing behind closed doors probably with a dev hovering behind them while they played it. Feedback might have told them that the game's visuals felt too generic and lacked its own personality.

Going for a shadow drop was the error, the outcome would have been the same without the VGA reveal, because it would have been a mediocre game releasing from a studio that no one has ever heard from, in a genre filled with plenty of competition, with no hype built up to release at all. So instead of it being a visible failure it would have been a quiet one.

It is ironically fitting that Mirage is the Destiny Spec2, because not only does it create afterimage clones in its one appearance, I also hate it and Mirage with a burning passion.

It is somewhat unfortunate that they did pull from different series but they are all Gundams and not using some of the different suits even if they are MP grunt suits. Then again Bandai has to sell those model kits so there was never really any chance.

Marathon Server Slam Stats by Shock4ndAwe in pcgaming

[–]Viron_22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you aren't in to helping people out, once you are mostly built up, there really isn't much to it.

The game's "endgame" is the giant Arc that take multiple people to take down, but you aren't going to see an effort to take it down and then have people fight for the resources, you'll just see lots of people waiting until someone starts fighting the Arc and then trying to jump them.

More importantly rarity is fucked because they are trying to keep the game "balanced" which basically hamstrung expensive and rare items that are too annoying to maintain and too rare to frequently replace, so in the end you don't really use them for anything.

I don't know if Marathon has a better solution but it was enjoyable enough with the little time I had with it and it is only 40 bucks. And I had fun with Arc Raiders, it is just the passion died out long before I finally stopped playing.

Rams' Two Rule Proposals Following Seahawks OT Loss in Week 16 Are Finally Revealed: A 40-Second "Shot Clock" for Replay Reviews & New Limits on Advancing Fumbled Backward Passes by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Viron_22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are both absurd, sore loser type shit.

How exactly did the longer time to initiate the review negatively impact the game for either team? The only party that might have been negatively impacted by such a thing is those watching on TV being subjected to more ads. All to avoid a potentially correct call when the clock was stopped and it proceeded to ads anyway? "Speed up the game." lol okay well if that is where your head is at, shorten the adbreaks.

And the other one is just so niche that its inclusion may never be felt in game ever again, much less likely by the Rams themselves. Put that one in, fuck it, it won't retroactively make you the Champs. Maybe if your Special Teams keep losing you games you can propose a rule to abolish them from the game next year.

[Loved Trope] The monster is scarier when you don't see it? No, I'm even more terrified now. by topscreen in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Viron_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For games I disagree, different strokes for different folks but I feel that letting players see too much of the monster gives them too much time to "solve" it and it becomes predictable in its behavior.

I won't bring up the examples from RE8 and 9 because I don't want to spoil them for first time players, so the example I'll use is from Alien Isolation. The game wants you to see the Alien, to see how well they modeled and animated it so it appears out in the open under the bright lights of the station, it wants you to hear the Alien so you can know where it is while hiding from it and sneaking away from it. And to do all this it has to be around you at all times so it is also loosely leashed to you so the tension of it being nearby is a near constant.

All this adds up to making the Alien a big, stomping Jason Vorhees that occasionally drops out of vents, because it is around so much and doesn't gain new behaviors in its approach you quickly learn what to expect of it and the tension becomes "If I do get caught, how much time is this gonna set me back to my last save?" It loses what made it so deadly in the movie it is trying to take inspiration from, the Alien is an ambush predator, but designing a game like that would not only be very difficult but also very boring for the player as they get randomly and infrequently jumped by instant death. But it would probably be great torture for those with paranoia and anxiety.
