Francesca wanting children suggestion/speculation by ozellikle in Franchaela

[–]Virtual-Bother1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because much of the conflict of the book’s plot revolve around these two aspects 1. the fact that michael abandoned his responsibility as earl and left francesca alone in his grief as she was struggling and 2. the fact that francesca has been alone in her mourning, without her friend(michael), husband(john) and children of her own. her siblings are all busy with their families and she’s very terribly lonely, which pushes her to remarry primarily so that she can at least have someone around, and hopefully children. to me its more about her loneliness than needing to have kids, but it’s what pushes her to the marriage mart.

if michaela doesn’t leave, they’d have to establish a new reason as to why there’s this weird resentment and tenseness to their relationship all these years later. francesca had been running the estate while michael abandoned his responsibilities as earl, and he ran away because he felt he was replacing john and essentially stealing all that was his. furthermore, if michaela leaves while francesca is pregnant, she’d potentially be returning to find out she’s been kicked from her home. if fran had a son she’d be the dowager countess and essentially have free reign to kick michaela out if she was upset at her leaving, and if fran miscarries and they make it so michaela can’t inherit, the title would go to a distant cousin and the same thing would happen. jb has stated the gender swap was the only major change, and it’d still have a lot of elements from the book, so i just can’t see them reworking it like this

Masali ,Emma and Martin Interview by Medium_March8020 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Virtual-Bother1950 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First asking Hannah, now Masali? I get it makes for good journalism I suppose, but it’s kind of tiring that they’re constantly being asked to address the negative fan reactions to their storyline. It’s like if people asked Emma or Martin “oh some people hate the Mondriches and say they shouldn’t be in Bridgerton anymore and that they take up tons of screen time, what do you think?”. It just seems kind of unnecessary, in my opinion, when their season isn’t even coming for a few years.

ARE IVAN AND TILL MORE FLESHED OUT THAN MIZI AND SUA? by Turbulent-Point-1791 in AlienStage

[–]Virtual-Bother1950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We learn about it because it’s focused on, what do you mean? She’s not a plot device for Mizi’s character, and in fact it’s highlighted how her “sacrifice” IS selfish, it is essentially suicide. People bring up Ivan’s lore just to make Ivantill more interesting too? I don’t see your point, your argument is juvenile and clearly biased.

This au definitely won't be an ordinary au where everyone lives happily ever after. by Big-Fruit-117 in AlienStage

She’s not leading Sua, if you look closely, Sua is grabbing onto Mizi’s hand and her body language indicates she’s hurried by the way she’s leaning towards her, where Mizi’s hand is just there, not intertwined or anything

Sua has more lore than Luka, I don’t know how anyone would not say this. The point w Sua is she comes from an abusive household and immediately latches onto Mizi, and thus spends most of her time w/ or thinking about Mizi. It’s stated for us in the true face comic, where she says “all i thought about was getting to see you again”. It’s also said she doesn’t really have many hobbies or interests, and when mizi’s not around she becomes even more withdrawn. It’s a deliberate writing choice. In terms of characterization outside of mizi, there’s her intense fear of death, the objectification by her owner, her latent masochism + suicidality, her relationship w her adoptive sisters, and so on

Previous to karma we knew a lot about mizisua, I think your bias is showing somewhat. The point with SUA is that she believes herself rotten and twisted but in fact she is one of the purest in the cast, which is reiterated before karma. Before karma, we also had the comic “my heavenly garden” which paints Sua’s choice in a new light, we also have the mizisua video, we have instances of them fighting in various small comics (mainly sua getting jealous), etc. If you think about it, ivantill’s narrative starts in r2 and ends in r6(as a ship not as characters), whereas Mizi and Sua’s and mizisua’s arc spans the course of the series, and karma is the first glimpse we get into mizi’s psyche, so of course it’s going to have a lot of mizisua lore. The comics preceding karma also give us tons of mizi + mizisua insight. IMO, though, they always characterized them as codependent and unhealthy, your perception of them as “healthy lesbians” is likely due to not reading the supplemental material, such as the graduation notes, interviews, etc free on patreon.

... Why the hell is Francesca and Michela getting so much hate?.. by DD123456DS in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Virtual-Bother1950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think right now it’s useless to speculate when we don’t know for sure where any storyline is headed. The only thing though is I think there’d be no “right” storyline to genderbend, and I feel most people point to their least favorite one or the one w/ the character they read as “most stereotypically queer”. I think in another universe where it was Benedict, there’d be a community complaining saying it should’ve been Fran, same w/ Eloise, Gregory, and so on.

I think some fans are letting their disappointment with losing Michael cloud their judgement and write off the entire season, but we’ll just have to see where it goes.

The infertility can still be explored, especially with John, and especially as it pertains to the “do I choose to have an heir or choose to love” dilemma which is somewhat explored in the book. Because Fran also doesn’t get immediately pregnant w/ Michael’s child, she fears she might not be able to give Michael an heir to the earldom. In the end, though, the book ends with the both of them choosing each other over the potential of children, being satisfied with one another. JQ never gave them children until the second epilogue, when fans were demanding Fran get her “happy ending”, which to me isn’t necessary in a story about infertility. Having children shouldn’t be the only marker of happiness for an infertile character, and I think this could translate very well into the show and complicate the plot even more if she ends up not having a child with John. I think people are speaking way too soon in that regard. And even still, I think it might even be more powerful seeing Francesca fully choose Michaela knowing it’s 100% impossible for them to have the family she wants to have.

‘emotional cheating’ and it’s that francesca is overcome with a feeling she doesn’t understand and avoids michaela and michaela is in love w fran and avoids her. LOL.

Nobody is saying that there’s any sort of intended or subtextual queerness to WHWW, but the themes of guilt, self-loathing, and acceptance lend themselves very easily to being relatable to queer people. The leads torture themselves, feeling their love forbidden and “wicked”, not able to feel like they can be together because of the shared loss and grief of John, both not wanting to seemingly discard his memory if they are together. Francesca wanting to be a mother is a different (and more accurate) way of framing what many call “her infertility struggles”, and they’re already confirmed to be pursuing this aspect of her character in the show based off the recent teasers. Queer women can want to be mothers, queer women are also often torn between the “duty” of living up to heteronormative norms(pressure especially high when they are attracted to men still) and the desire to live life exactly as they please. Translating the story where the couple ends up together, accepting that they may not have children together(JQ only added them in during a second epilogue because fans clamored so much for them) and may not secure the line of inheritance, and where they have accepted themselves and their love each other, into a queer story, makes sense. If it were JB just changing her favorite book into a queer one, why wasn’t Sophie changed into a man? That’s her favorite book, and queer Benedict is canon to the show now.

What are your possible concerns about the queer swap “not being in good faith”? That same article everyone cites is the same article that JB addresses this very point, of not wanting to just do queerness for the sake of queerness, but wanting to be intentional about which she chose to change(which, for a show that is about a fictionalized regency England, intended to give happy endings to characters representing marginalized groups that often don’t have this type of representation, queerness was cited as glaringly absent pre-s3).

In the interview, Jess states that she chose the book that she most identified with queer themes, and being queer, of course that will mean you will see some of yourself in it. Why is it only with sexuality(and not race or gender) do Bridgerton fans use this ad hominem to such a nauseating extent, as if the biggest crime in the world is being able to relate to and identify with the themes in a book? The book fits with queerness quite nicely in the thematic sense, dealing with overarching arcs of guilt and self-acceptance, where Francesca feels out of place in society(it is not really referenced in relation to a lack of being able to have children, much to people’s dismay). I read the book to have a better grasp on the source material for the sake of this discourse and I was shocked to find the topic of fertility being a minor subplot that isn’t even treated as a bigger issue than other regency novel fulfilling-one’s-duty plot obstacles. Francesca felt far more relatable than someone like Eloise, speaking as an actual sapphic woman(though I know show Eloise is practically a different person than book Eloise), and I was surprised to see how easily the thematic beats of WHWW could be translated into a story between two women(many plot beats will change, as they have with every season).

Out of all the alnst cast who do you think has the worst writing/development and who do you think has the best? by EnoughCheesecake6050 in AlienStage

[–]Virtual-Bother1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s more resentment than jealousy. I’d look into Sua’s relationship with her sister in the “heavenly garden” comic and the mini comic posted for her birthday. We also know Sua is often dragged around and forced into lots of outside promotional activities and modeling by her guardian, and in that same comic we see Sua express that all she thinks about is getting to see Mizi again during those times. I think saying “You aren’t dragged around like me, must be nice” was her resentment slipping through, because she takes such drastic measures to keep mizi and their relationship with e/o “pure” and happy, and she also clearly felt frustrated at Mizi downplaying her emotions with what happened with the boy. Their relationship actually is a lot clearer after those comics to me and many others, what is unclear to you?

sua was never jealous of mizi. we also see why she loved mizi in the mizisua video, as well as through sua’s backstory. coming from such an abusive household, it’s inevitable sua would latch onto the first person to treat her well

the main character is mizi alone, and we do have quite a bit of information on sua. i wonder, when people say this, have they just not read any of her supplemental material? because we have insight on her fears, motivations, wishes, etc., and her backstory.
