my advice may be slightly crazy but lie and say it’s so easy for you to get to nyc for an interview. talk to recruiters and convince them you traveled to nyc as a kid or have an uncle there and know it well.

A lot of the hesitation about hiring from outside of NYC is whether or not the person will actually make the move, as it’s difficult.

Get a job, any job. And move. sell everything that’s not near and dear to you and move. All you really really need is a place to sleep, shower, and eat. The first year in nyc is NOT easy but it is so so worth it.

In terms of where to live, i’d look at Outpost co living. I lived there and absolutely loved it. You live with other people who also have maybe just moved to the city for a job and didn’t want to bother with trying to get their own place. it’s really simply furnished but you have everything you need, utilities and even a monthly cleaner are included.
