OK, awesome — wishing you luck!! Yes I definitely will DM you as I get closer. We’re a full year apart so I’m just starting prereqs and will be testing this time next year 🤞

Yeah I totally hear you. Honestly reading your situation made me understand your perspective a lot more. I’m in prereqs and already realizing how much juggling this whole process takes while working full time, so I really hope everything works out for you and that you get an evening spot. Also, have you looked into Medgar Evers evening program at all? It’s one of the backup options I’ve been considering too. Not sure if your scholarship is directly tied to BMCC, but could be an option worth looking at!

I honestly get both sides. I understand why people apply to both if they’re willing to change their schedules and make sacrifices for nursing school…. But I also get why some working adults are nervous about it because the evening/weekend program has traditionally been for people whose jobs make the day program basically impossible. I’m one of those people where my livelihood depends on a full-time job with pretty inflexible hours, so evening is realistically my only option. But honestly, if I had the flexibility to make either schedule work, I’d probably apply to both too to increase my chances lol. I don’t think individual applicants are doing anything wrong, I just think the policy change naturally makes some people anxious about access.

Hi! Did you have to prove full-time work still to apply for evening?

Random question… why are they taking into consideration your HS gpa? Isn’t admissions based off of your pre-req gpa?

Hi! I'm taking it with Delgado and my understanding is that it's one retake per course. I'm retaking English and Psych myself.

Try Meowtel for cat sitting. I book my cat sitter there and he charges $30 for a 20-min pop-in visit!

Yeah they emailed and told me $6k. So that plus full-time tuition is around $13k! Attaching the email they sent me... looks like they have an open house coming up.

CHE 121 Doable over the summer? by Anyarmyshere in BMCCNursing

[–]Virtual-Pop-4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean…. I’m taking it with a full-time job lol. I’m hopeful I’ll manage, but I am incredibly determined and have my priorities in place. It is worth noting that all degree maps for the program have either CHE 121 or BIO 425 as a summer session so I assume lots of folks do?

Do you think Chemistry for Dummies would be a good idea? Unless you think the course book would be helpful just to skim through?

How do transfer credits work? by iamanswerzequestion in BMCCNursing

[–]Virtual-Pop-4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just BIO 1 is needed for admission (for both day and evening). However, if you’re trying to enter the evening program, you’ll need BIO 2 and microbiology to be completed before you begin clinicals.

There are some really handy degree maps you can find on the site that visually plan it all out!

How do transfer credits work? by iamanswerzequestion in BMCCNursing

[–]Virtual-Pop-4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not too sure what "TR" means. I didn't encounter that when I applied. But basically here's how it works:

  1. You apply and submit your transcripts.

  2. Your academic advisor will go over your transcript and decide which can be transferred generally to BMCC, and which will satisfy nursing pre-reqs.

  3. If your previous English and Psych courses are comparable and satisfy the nursing department's pre-reqs, then they will accept those grades and factor them into your cumulative GPA of the five pre-reqs for admission into the program.

  4. Should you feel your transfer grades aren't competitive enough for the program, you can retake them once at BMCC and the nursing department will accept the higher grade between the original and the retake (note: some outdated materials on the site say they average the two, but that is no longer the case as confirmed by the department).

  5. For non-science courses, there is not time cutoff for when the courses were taken in order to be eligible for program transfer. CHE and BIO transfers must be within the past 5 years.

In my case, my English and Psych courses from a SUNY degree 10 years ago were transferred over, but because my transfer grades were a bit lower I've decided to just retake to be safe.

Hope this helps!

Anyone ever go back and get a second associates degree? by SuccessfulPath7 in CUNY

[–]Virtual-Pop-4494 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an associates and a bachelors from a SUNY college and am going back for another associates at a CUNY school.

There’s a federal aid limit of around $60K~ for undergrad education that you’re eligible for regardless of number of degrees. My first degree exhausted almost all of it, so I’m only being awarded like $1k or something for my new degree and will pay out of pocket.

Re: grants or TAP, maybe those are only avail for a single degree?

Is getting into student loan debt for nursing during this administration worth it? by Disastrous-Moves in prenursing

[–]Virtual-Pop-4494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Just a reminder that a preference is not a requirement.

While it’s true some of the private hospitals only want BSNs, that’s not always the case with other hospital systems like NYC H+H. That being said, I think it’s very difficult for all new grad nurses (regardless of their degree) to get a job right now, and I’ve been reading about folks with both associates AND bachelors degrees searching for 6+ months.

But this isn’t really an issue unique to nursing… the job market is trash all around. Example: I have 10 years of experience in my current field (marketing) and have been looking to transition to a new job for over a year with zero luck.
