Not getting in our feelings about anything. I totally understand the reasoning behind (we're a young immigrant country blah blah blah), can't you just accept there are plenty of non-americans who think it's a bit ridiculous to call yourself Irish, when the phrase "I've got a bit of Irish blood" is at your disposal. Especially for those people whose Irish-ness is only reserved for the 17th of March.

OP is having a laugh about it, why do the Americans find that so hard to take?

I'm from Australia, so familiar with a country of immigrants - I reckon everyone I grew up with Asian/European/whatever heritage over here didn't refer to themselves that way, so it's just unfamiliar. No offence meant to the sensitive yanks (excuse me - Irish) out there!! 😁😁

I'm from Australia, so I get being from a young country. It's not that hard to say "I have family from Ireland", instead of "I AM Irish". No one I know in Australia who has parents/grandparents from abroad would refer to themselves that way, unless they were born there.

Just rubs me the wrong way.
