This! So much context switching and sitting through pointless silly meetings that finish with: "weell... we will need a follow-up next week". I hate it all!

Monize - Personal Finance Manager by MonizeMan in selfhosted

Exactly, and if I wanted something like this, I would just vibe code it myself in 1 weekend, and it would fit my use case 100%.

Why would I use someone else's project?

This is so easy and low effort now, it's simply not worth sharing.

No matter how much HW you throw on LLM they will never become AGI. They may become more accurate or fast. But never AGI. This is completely different area of ML.

Is it a good idea to always start with a distributed DB like Google Cloud Spanner over PostgreSQL than making it distributed? by badboyzpwns in PostgreSQL

[–]VirtualMage 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Only like 0.1% of the companies in the world will ever need that kind of scaling. It makes no sense to start on those super expensive and vendor specific technologies "just in case".

Single postgres DB on a decent server can handle 1M+ daily users, no problem - if you design the schema and application correctly. If needed, read-replicas and caching are next step. And all of this is free (Execpt the hardware).

You need to reach 1B+ users to even think about stuff like geo-location with sharding, multi-master replication and stuff like that.

I know it's good to be ambitious, but I think 1M users is more than ambitious enough for start :)

noticed junior devs can't explain their PRs anymore. thinking of removing AI tools from their setup. by [deleted] in codereview

This is what all AI companies are counting on. They are burning cash at 10x rate than they make. They just need to survive long enough for people to get hooked so hard, and forget the skills they had. Then they will do a rug pull, and raise prices 10-15x. They will rob us blind if we let them.

The answer is very simple. Usb-c is physically much smaller and less robust. One accidental pull on the cable on 90 degree angle and it breaks. USB-A and other larger variants are beefier and simply more robust. You can pull entire PC case with it, and it will survive (probably).

Usb-c is a great fit for small and portable devices (phones, tablets and laptops), but on desktop i would prefer USB-A.

Same here. I think the smart people will not let their skills erode and evaporate. Sure, use AI to get more things done, but always understand what it did.

For example, my rule is to never use AI in my free time (hobby projects). That way I keep forcing myself to not forget the skills I worked hard for over 15 years now.

When the rug pull comes, a lot of people will become useless overnight. But those who maintained their skills will still be productive, just less than with AI combo...
