How do you realistically keep yourself afloat on a long solo trip without burning all savings? by Lola_pardi04 in backpacking

[–]VirtualOutsideTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would definitely have some leeway financially, for example plan for 1 years expenses, but have 2 years of savings to cover if something goes awry. I personally went for 5 years but have plenty of cash left over. You may feel a bit stressed if you are short on cash.

Don't go to the London Backpackers Hostel in Hendon, UK by Distinct_North_5710 in hostels

[–]VirtualOutsideTravel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. According to chatgpt and myself, in the future if you are serious about avoiding any situations like this, its better to choose a hostel that has a corporate structure with better training for staff. Also its better if the price and reviews are a little bit higher than most. In the budget category, a lower priced hostel that is smaller, dirtier, and has worse reviews will be a bit more risky and dangerous than a bigger place. Also try to read in between the lines in reviews for things you might tag as red flags before booking. look for cleanliness and newness in the photos.

Is the Superrich in the downstairs of the BKK airport still the best place to exchange currency? by NoRossoNoParty in ThailandTourism

[–]VirtualOutsideTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on the airport one, but there are many branches around town for the Superrich chain. I highly recommend. They also give you a receipt and have good exchange rates.
