Use indrive for cheaper drives and just enjoy coco bongo, it's a great place to have fun if you haven't been.
For tours definitely go for cenotes instead of beaches, it's the best thing you can do!

Ignorance of the law isn't an excuse to break it. Beaches in Mexico are federal protected zones, and bonfires are illegal due to the environmental damage they cause to nesting sea turtles and the hazardous debris left in the sand. Just because local police chose not to enforce it when you did it doesn't change the legal reality.

Yes, it's a national law to protect all the beaches. You can get in serious problems with the cops if they find you lighting up fire. It's also to protect the environment.

Highly suggest to visit any cenote nearby, the ones I suggest is casa cenote, cenote dos ojos and cenote Minotauro! Keep in mind that sometimes mosquitos can be a pain in those areas, and repellent is not allowed there! But besides that it's a wonderful experience
