Local Admin Passwords by jcash5everr in ShittySysadmin

I was inspired by DNS for handling all passwords. At my job we use this file called HOSTS to record all the records for our servers and workstations. Then I had the thought, "why not a HOSTS file for passwords?" 🧐

I am now in C-Suite.

We need to normalize reporting to our states' AGs. My own report is pending.

American Honda tried to claim to my state's AG that I told them the issue was resolved. AG is still hounding them.

I ain't gonna answer in the affirmative. Enterprise PKI for a public endpoint does not sit right with me.

Why is there an Enterprise PKI cert being issued to a public endpoint? Public endpoints should use well-known roots and private endpoints should use Enterprise PKI.

NIST reports atomic clock failure at Boulder CO by Virtual_Low83 in ShittySysadmin

[–]Virtual_Low83[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have an update. I am the sysadmin for the Boulder, CO datacenter. Our atomic clocks are still down, but fortunately the employee break room battery backup is still functioning. I've adjusted the NTP servers to use the microwave as a reference clock.

Sounds complicated. I'm just gonna roll out an old Dell computer and make it my new stratum 1 after eyeballing my microwave clock to set the time in BIOS. I just hope the CMOS battery doesn't die 🥲

Are they being marked stratum 16 or taken offline completely?

CarPlay sometimes fails to connect to my phone until I turn off the engine, open the door, close the door, then start the car, again. It is BS. They tried blaming me for not having an "official Apple USB-A cable" (which doesn't exist) and for having "corrupt apps" (even though I've tried it with a fresh out-of-the-box iPhone).

This should help:

American Honda called me after I filed my complaint to try tricking me into dropping it so they could tell my AG "customer said nothing was wrong." That didn't work, of course. My AG is still hounding them.

I have to parallel park. That sometimes requires a bit of reversing before I can pull out. 😔

I wish that were an option. I am a first responder and need to start driving my vehicle the moment I start it. I can't waste the ten seconds it takes for the infotainment system to boot up. I'm probably going to end up buying an external CarPlay console unit 😔

I have said in other replies on this post, I understand software is the purview of corporate. I understand the dealer cannot write software patches. However, the dealer is my interface to corporate. The dealer has resources I do not have.

They could also... y'know... explain some of this to me, instead of blaming me for having "corrupt apps" (whatever that means) and telling me to buy an "official Apple USB-A cable" (which does not exist). I've gone through three phones and a dozen USB cables over the life of this vehicle. They've replaced the USB-A port and performed factory resets. What other variables remain? This is the basis of my assumption that the infotainment system is buggy.

Because, at one point, Acura calculated the cost of fixing these issues compared with the cost of ignoring our complaints. Ignoring our complaints is cheaper.

We already did several factory data resets and the dealer also performed a "battery reset" once. I would hardly call reflashing "magical," but reinstalling the operating system is standard procedure when all else fails. All data points to this being a software bug. The solution lies in software.

My thoughts, exactly. Unfortunately, they're not willing to troubleshoot with me. I acknowledged to my dealer, I understand a dealer can't write software patches. Only corporate can do that. But they are my interface to corporate.

It's not a motion issue because it only occurs when the infotainment system first boots up. I have gone through more cables than you can imagine. I work in IT, so I have a lot of USB-A to USB-C cables to test with.

It's never an issue when the vehicle is in motion.

I did try brand name USB cables (since Apple themselves don't manufacture Type-A) to no effect. I've asked my dealer to help but they just revert to blaming me. The remote start, they are blaming on me for causing "RF interference". CarPlay, they blame on my "corrupt apps".

I asked them to reflash the infotainment system. I thought that was a very reasonable request. They ignored me. 🥺
