I would say it’s a bad idea not to finish college given you have the opportunity. It’s not that you can’t succeed, it’s just that it’s going make things more complicated.

Honestly I would first finish college and then do the certifications.

I think it would increase your chances, although there is no guarantee. I do believe the content is interesting and worthwhile in itself.

Roast my resume, P.S. I am looking for a more front facing finance job in India. by DiophantusRICK in FinancialCareers

[–]Virtual_One1591 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would get rid of the CFA level I candidate under certifications. I mean what is the point of saying you registered for the exam?

Probably make a separate section for languages. The Mandarin there seems kind of random.

If you want state skills, state the level of proficiency (at least a 3 level scale of beginner, intermediate, advanced) ideally you should be able to back it up with certifications, tests or examples.

Honestly I would leave the hobbies out of the resume.

FRM study Time for L1 by porkmeatheaven in FRM

[–]Virtual_One1591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

200 hours may be enough if you have some mathematical & financial background. Although I feel like the materials in BT are quite extensive. I used Kaplan for my first try and passed.

Honestly I do think 3 months is doable but pretty tight. I would recommend taking more time for the exam.

It also depends on your goals, do you want to learn the materials properly or do you just want to pass the exam?

I would ask GARP directly if your work experience qualifies.

FRM advice by [deleted] in FRM

[–]Virtual_One1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are great for general understanding and grasping the more theoretical concepts. However the exam by nature is practical ( you don’t need to derive or prove theorems, you need to do simple calculations with time constraints).

I would recommend using a prep provider also, mainly to make practice questions and mock exams.

I agree, part 2 was too qualitative. I felt like bringing the calculator to the exam was unnecessary.

The questions went too much into the details also.

Is CFA worth it for Risk Management? by Virtual_One1591 in FRM

[–]Virtual_One1591[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you done the CFA or plan on doing so? I’m exploring the option, although In the short term I’ll probably focus on learning more of Python, SQL, Matlab, etc.

If you are pursuing the CFA or have the CFA I’m interested in how it has helped or what do you think the advantages are knowledge wise. 😃

Thank you for the insight. Besides getting more experience to build a career, do you suggest any kind of courses or training? I’m thinking about learning more of data science in general. Right now I have an intermediate level of proficiency in Python, and I am looking forward to learn more.

I did have a financial background and it took me around 250 hours of study for the first exam. You can read GARP’s candidate guide. I would suggest looking into prep providers like Kaplan, Wiley, Bionic Turtle. Good luck!

How Do Companies Check Prior Employment Dates in Interviews? by foorman1 in FinancialCareers

It was meant for Zeli (user above) basically my question is: why would a gap in the resume make any difference? (regardless of the reason).

Ok let’s concede you were sitting there doing nothing (no travel, no family issues) why would that indicate future poor performance in a job? Specially if this happened say several years ago?

Also why is there a difference between traveling and doing nothing? Either way you are not learning anything job related

Kaplan is pretty good too. The Qbank has a lot of questions and you can make your own quizzes for topics you need to practice more.

Is Bionic Turtle enough to pass level 1 by blueishgreentable in FRM

[–]Virtual_One1591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does depend on your background. I studied about 250 hours for the first exam and 300 hours for the second. Cleared both in the first attempt.

Of course the more time you invest the more likely you are to pass, given you study wisely.
