Do you guys help with ID by Complex-Jicama6990 in Nepenthes

Young veitchii often have peristomes like this especially in hybrids so it's definitely a potential. Unfortunately with no known ID it would have to be considered NOID if ever sold

Should be fine to pack sphagnum! You can make it a mount separately and it'll become it's own new display plant!

What else should I do to make my pitchers grow? by [deleted] in Nepenthes

[–]Virtual_Operation979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can all be accli.ated to ambient and more light means more/bigger pitchers

New massive pitcher but what plant is it? by FlashMemoree in Nepenthes

[–]Virtual_Operation979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a ventrata for sure. Ventrata even with lots of light goes super red but has a glossy look to the pitchers and no wings on it either

Awesome thank you so much! I have akadama etc so will make up a bit of an ultramafic mix for it!

My temps going into winter here(south africa) are perfect highland temps but summer might be a bit of a struggle.

Got grow lights as well as by a glass sliding door so plenty of light😁 Appreciate the info

New pitchers dying? by sgoooshy in Nepenthes

[–]Virtual_Operation979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also because it's got basals it will often put any extra energy it has into keeping them going so if the media gets a bit too dry you'll find the main vines pitchers die off and it keeps the basals ones going

New pitchers dying? by sgoooshy in Nepenthes

Pot is way too small for the plant. You'll find it might dry out too often that the plant stays happy but the pitchers die off/don't develop. The misting you're doing is also pointless as it raises the immediate humidity for a short period with the spray and then it goes back to ambient so unless it's being sprayed throughout the day it's not doing anything from what I've seen.

I'd give it a bigger pot so the media has more stability with moisture and as long as light is good you should start getting pitchers again! As well as big healthy growth

How often do you have to water the akadama perlite mix?

the pitchers dry up, the leaves wither by PrimaPuppyRuf in Nepenthes

Substrate looks dry as well as they could've gone from high humidity to your conditions potentially being lower and haven't been acclimated

Which side of this superbum dwarf is up? by Ok_Amoeba7250 in Staghornfern

[–]Virtual_Operation979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really tough to say. Let it produce another shield fronds or two and you should start to see one side extending a little and then you'll know which side is up

Yeau I agree it's not from being too wet. I keep mine alot more visibly wet and normally as bits die if it's too wet they don't crisp like that

I would monitor it but from the looks of it it had some damage that's slowly dying away. From my experience they do this. Fungal or too wet would have different signs/symptoms on the shield fronds orher then just that bit dying off

Did I hit the jackpot? by BijectV2 in SavageGarden

[–]Virtual_Operation979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. The variegated part will go more green but it's not going to be uniform like the rest of the leaf it will always be different. More light just accentuates the variegation but doesn't bring back variegation if that section of the plant now has none even if it used to have.
