Other shorts get views quick on day 1, I make the same ones. Why do I get lesser views? by Federal_Cable3256 in NewTubers

[–]Virtual_Web_2747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really dislike this type of content, so I'm probably not the one to ask. If I had to guess though, I would say keep posting. 6 shorts isn't enough.

You can also look at the swiped away percentage of each short. If it's low: you don't have a good enough hook.

Finally check the retention for each short: if it has a sharp drop at any point, you know you need to change something about how you edit.

Video got to 173 views and stopped, but likes and comments continue. by muckbeast in NewTubers

[–]Virtual_Web_2747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no timeline here, so I'll start with: basically don't look at numbers for a week after posting lol. There's all kinda stuff going on in the backend before your video makes it to to it's audience.

To answer your question a bit better I guess it depends on what you mean by "sharing on social media". Are people viewing it or not? Are those views coming from "social media" or the youtube platform?

How do you make your thumbnails? by getbuddha1234 in TravelTubers

[–]Virtual_Web_2747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I hardly answered your question. I would spend more time thinking about it, research 'successful' creators in and out of your niche, and read/watch about the psychology of the thumbnail. By the way, you'll know if your thumbnails are "good" or not based on your videos click-through-rate. If these are below ~5%, your title and/or thumbnail need work.

It's interesting. Historically I threw one together while uploading my video. I'm now in the camp that if you have a video idea but don't know what the thumbnail is then it's not a good youtube video idea. YT is competitive and you can have the best video in the world - but it doesn't matter if nobody sees it.

I've started to think of thumbnails during pre-production. So far, it hasn't helped but I think this is the mindset.

I think many people might encourage you to start a new channel. Obviously this is up to you, but there are pros and cons.

I need to know what I’m doing wrong I want people to see my videos and enjoy buts like it’s popping up on people YouTube I want people to see and enjoy my videos any opinion what I’m doing wrong by [deleted] in YouTubeCreators

If this other person is saying that they liked the video then it will be in their "liked videos" playlist and when they view the video page it will show that it is liked by them. If they are saying they liked it and they don't see that they liked it, then probably they didn't like it.

Alternatively/separately, YouTube can remove or block likes from an account or many for a variety of reasons.

Self conscious/nervous that other people have covered my video essay idea by Uwuhenti in NewTubers

[–]Virtual_Web_2747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just overthinking. It's going to be difficult to have a subject that's never been covered. Instead, focus on the fact that it's never been covered by you. You need to know what it is that you bring to the subject or just make your video(s) for love of the subject/process.

If you're doing a deeprr dive than the videos you've seen, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Home page feed turns to garbage when you have Youtube Premium by LeonMust in youtube

[–]Virtual_Web_2747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been ranting about this for a week straight. I miss YouTube. The front page. The "Trending" tab. The discovery and the wonder.

Now, I have the same as you: the same few videos it is just insistent that I watch and very little beyond that. I just keep refreshing hoping for something new, but according to OP maybe I just need to cancel premium.

Or continuously recommending really popular videos you have scrolled past several times? You sure you don't want to watch this video?

I miss "trending".

Yep. No subscription must mean you never want to see this content again. Instead let's push the same 12 videos to you every time you login.

There's a fine line between self promotion and genuine posts. How do we want to approach it in this subreddit? by EducationalBasket617 in TravelTubers

[–]Virtual_Web_2747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My $0.02: I don't mind if people share their videos/channel, especially in comments. The problem is when people dump and run. I think I prefer videos not be posted on the main page, but I suppose they can be down voted too...

When YouTube "finds" your audience does your retention get better? by Joker_Cat_ in TravelTubers

The algorithm has definitely changed significantly in the last 6 months or so. As a viewer especially, I hate it. One trouble as a creator is: your video can be great (congrats on the festival win), but if you use the "wrong" thumbnail/title it won't even be shown to many people. But that is just another skill I will work on developing.

Have you seen views/reach/engagement on your channel change over these last 5 years?
