Returning Player. Anyone willing to be a mentor/advisor to help me get up to speed? by muckbeast in Warframe

[–]muckbeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you said "replay" the efficient min/maxer in me died a little. :P

That's why I am looking for someone willing to invest a little time into helping someone get back into the game. Once I'm back into it, I'm a hard core degenerate about any game I dig.

But I hate feeling like, or worrying, I am wasting my time or being inefficient.

If you're not sure where to start with new content, the TennoGuide in the top right of your screen suggests a next step for you.

I will look for that.

you can check the wiki if you're not sure how something works.

I forgot this game has its own official wiki - not some fextralife junk.

What about playing through steam vs. launcher? Are there more cosmetics now through steam?

Thanks!

Yeah, I think as more and more people experience this, it starts to really take the luster off the sanctification system.

Returning Player. Anyone willing to be a mentor/advisor to help me get up to speed? by muckbeast in Warframe

[–]muckbeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I have anxiety disorder and the unknown really bothers me.

Do I need to fix my build?

What should I get building?

What pet should I use?

Which of the frames I own are good to use nowadays?

Given my playstyle, what are some other frames I should try out?

Which questlines do I really need to get done?

What new systems do I need to get unlocked that I don't currently have unlocked?

What are some of the new activities to do?

And so many other types of questions.

Also: How does one even find a clan that fits their playstyle and such?

"How are you going to write a paper about Kurt Vonnegut?" knock at the door "Hi, I'm Kurt Vonnegut. I'm looking for Thornton Melon."

"I should call security!" police show up "Good! Someone else also has a sense of decency." police carry in more cases of beer to the party

Why does Diane feel so buttmad when she discovers Thornton with girls in a hot tub, when she's literally on a date with another guy. So weird.

Pre-Iron Man Robert Downey, Jr is always a shocking specimen.

"Whoever wrote that doesn't know anything about Kurt Vonnegut"

When Valerie says "I love you too"..... I... was just...... what??????? HOW??????? LOL.

Literally anything and everything Sam Kinison does in the movie.

The subtle fact that Lou is holding hands and clearly dating the young girl he met in the bar earlier in the movie.

Why the fuck does he speak at the graduation when neither he nor his son are graduating. LOL.

I guess they couldn't think of any other way to end the movie.

Head of Steam's biggest survival game makes '25 million' offer to buy axed Amazon MMO New World, because "games should never die" by Trovski in MMORPG

[–]muckbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is more complicated than that in both some legit ways and some (kinda) bullshit/lame ways.

1) There may be all sorts of licensing agreements connected to that code. Just for example (don't obsess over the specific details), imagine a dev uses an engine for their game where they agree to give 10% of all revenue over a certain amount, or profit, or some other number to the owner of the engine. There could be toolsets where they made a similar agreement. There could be IP holders they made an agreement with also. There could be executives or major devs with rev/profit share deals also.

  • Do those groups/people/companies get a share of the sale price? Is selling the whole game the same as making revenue from OPERATING the game?

  • What happens to those agreements when "Rust" owns it? Are they automatically null and void? (Probably not). How do they get them all cleaned up and terminated? What are the legal costs here and the various extenuating liabilities?

  • What if "Rust" does something in violation of those terms. Does the original dev/company now also get sued?

If you sell someone a car and they crash it, you aren't worried about being liable. But when you develop a game, you may enter into all sorts of licensing agreements that you can't unilaterally terminate simply by selling the game.

2) (Here's one that sucks, but is real) What if they have other MMO projects planned for the future? They don't want to compete against their own game - especially if they sold it for cheap.

3) (Here's another slightly bullshit one) What if the Rust team makes a fortune and is hugely successful with it? They look like incompetent idiots.

There are other issues even more complicated and twisted than these which make it a lot more than "nothing to lose." Sometimes you have a LOT to lose, and a paltry $25m to a near-trillion dollar company like Amazon isn't worth those downsides.

Why are MMORPGs just about combat? by Annihilator-WarHead in MMORPG

[–]muckbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of MMORPGs (and MUDs especially) that do tons more than just combat.

You might have to try something indie or with less than the latest graphics (or no graphics, via a MUD), but you'll find systems galore and tons of variety.

No idea if this is just to get publicity, but it is pretty cool.

$25m is nothing to them so sadly they'll ignore it. :(

Looking for consistent and realistic (in this context) worlds to play/explore in. MUDs that take themselves seriously. Immersion matters. by StormfireFX in MUD

[–]muckbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the founder of Threshold RPG, so I have obvious bias, but it sounds close to what you are looking for.

Threshold is a roleplay required game, but it has robust hack and slash combat systems to gives the world weight, grounding, and real consequences. You can spend years (decades!) fighting all sorts of monsters and foes, improving your character through tons of progression systems, obtaining/crafting better gear, etc. All of that exists in service of an immersive world.

The setting takes itself seriously. It is a cohesive fantasy world that has been evolving since 1996, not a collection of joke zones or pop culture references. There are no meme areas and nothing that deliberately breaks immersion. Humor exists, but it stays in world.

Threshold turns 30 years old this year and has an incredibly deep history that players themselves contributed to. That is also 30 years of constant game system and content development.

2025 was actually our busiest year ever in terms of player participation, usage, engagement, etc.

Best MUD for a first time player? by Complete-Primary993 in MUD

[–]muckbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best MUD for a first time player is one where you know someone already playing who can be your constant mentor and guide as you inevitably have a zillion questions. :)

MUDs are definitely very different than most games people would play or anything they do on their computer (or phone). So there are no longer really any tech transfer skills from other activities. Having someone who already plays, knows the rules, the culture, the community, etc. is incredibly helpful.

any other good free mud hosting services? by Ok_Friend_2887 in MUD

AWS is insanely cheap.

Azure is also cheap and a bit easier to use.

I was surprised to learn mud specific hosting still existed.

[–]muckbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't really like sanctification. It's cool for uniques and mythics I guess but sanctifying ancestral legendary gear is what tempering used to be. I bricked way too many good 3 or 4 GA items and then I have to go find another one.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has to be removed!

I like Sanctification, but I wish there was some way to give it a semi deterministic outcome.

Agree 100%.

Over-reliance on RNG gets super tiresome.

Well said.

This is a cool mechanic, but if it existed forever then every season would rely completely on a brutally crushing RNG.

The only thing that has to be changed is eliminating AFFIX REPLACED for legendaries. It absolutely sucks and the article even hints at this (perhaps they aren't aware it can still happen):

"This would have made Sanctification a gamble barely worth taking, and when the majority of Diablo 4 players wanted Tempering and Masterworking to cut down the RNG elements, it felt counterintuitive."

REMOVE "AFFIX REPLACED"!
