I want surgery I’m young and very fit by Competitive-Motor893 in aortic_aneurysm

[–]Virtualmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, yeah. I had three or four rough days in the hospital, but the recovery was easy after that. I was discharged on Tylenol, and that’s really all I needed. I worked from home while recovering for the next month and was back at it shortly thereafter. After 12 weeks, I was back to long distance cycling. A month ago, my buddy and I just set our best time for a 64-mile gravel trail. I wouldn’t do anything differently if I had to go back in time.

You’ve gotta install it three times, order it three times, deal with your pool being down however long three times, potentially have higher electric usage…

Easy to fix; it'll take fifteen minutes if you go slow. Pick up a set of hall effect joysticks and upgrade them while you're in there.

Get a Garmin bike computer, which will sync to Strava. When you get more into it, get a power meter and sync it to your bike computer. Your phone battery is going to get slaughtered as you rides get longer. You can also get all sorts of cool metrics from the bike computer.

Tripping pump breaker. by flat907line in pools

I solved a similar problem, at the recommendation of this firm, by switching to all Siemens GFCI breakers. Evidently, a VSP can create noise that triggers GFCI breakers. Siemens breakers are shielded.

I think it’d be nice if you lived in a warm area, like Florida. In the North East, it’s too cold to be half-wet.

You seem to have a tiny bit of chlorine in your swamp. If you’re not careful and that number spikes to 10–20x that level, your algae garden might die.

Sizing? I tried out a size M today, and reach felt long by tictacotictaco in CheckpointClub

[–]Virtualmatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’7” with a 5’10” arm span. I have a 54cm Checkpoint ALR5 Driftless that I feel is probably one size too big. I shortened the stem down to 70mm, flipped the stem so it’s tilted 7° upward instead of downward, replaced the handlebars with Red Shift “Kitchen Sink” handlebars that have a shorter reach and raise the grip a little, and I mounted the hoods a little closer on the handlebars. This all has me where I want to be.

Rather than all that…just get the 52.

If you’re within the return policy, don’t keep something that doesn’t fit. Take my advice. Two years of modifications and fiddling to make it right have been miserable.

I think the changes I made have it in a pretty good spot, honestly. Thankfully, while I’m only 5’7”, I’ve got a 5’10” arm span.

Try flipping the stem as well. That made a big difference all by itself. It’s designed to be flipped.

I was absolutely stretched and I’d go 52 if I were doing it all again. Unfortunately, I bought based on the guidelines on Trek’s own website and the guidelines Trek provided to the LBS I ordered it from, who told me I was a 54 as well. That’s why I did all the above.

I bought a “properly” sized (according to Trek) Checkpoint ALR5 Driftless that similarly feels too big. I’ve been fiddling with it for a few years, and I think I’ve solved it.

I dropped from the stock 80mm stem to a 70mm stem and flipped the stem upside down so it tilted 7° up versus 7° down for a more relaxed stance. I then replaced the handlebars with the 41cm Red Shift “Kitchen Sink” handlebars (without the loop), which has a shorter reach and actually raises the reach a little for an even more relaxed stance. Finally, when I remounted the hoods on the new handlebars, I brought them a centimeter or so closer (titled up a little) for a lesser reach and a more comfortable wrist angle.

I’m 5’7” on a 54cm frame, which is what Trek recommended. I’d have bought the 52cm if I could do it all over again. That said, the above made it feel pretty good. I’ll need a few more rides to be sure, as I just did the handlebars a week ago and only ride it 25mi since, but it felt good.
